The Tuck Mattress is one of the latest customizable mattresses where each side of the bed can be made a particular way to cater to you and your partners unique sleeping preferences. What I like about Tuck is that no matter what configuration you choose, you will end up with a really comfy mattress. That’s because they use quality materials throughout.

Overview of the Tuck Mattress

The Tuck Mattress comes compressed in a box  just like the majority of the other online offerings. It ships via UPS and should arrive in about 5-7 business days after placing your order. Shipping and returns are both free. And the mattress is shipped out of their warehouse in Tupelo, Mississippi. The mattress comes with a 11 year, one month and one day warranty. Tuck is also very specific about their free trial period too. This is sort of comical in that they want to up the ante on return periods to the benefit of the consumer. The Tuck trial period is 145 days, 12 hours and 53 seconds. So, set your timer as soon as you place your order! Tuck asks that you try your mattress for at least 30 days before starting the return process as this give your body time to adjust. If you still don’t like it after 30 days you can call them to find a place to donate the mattress. If nothing can be found they will arrange pickup of the mattress to be recycled.

Prices for a Tuck mattress are as follows:

Twin – $600
Twin XL – $725
Full – $850
Queen – $990
King – $1,200
California King – $1,200

The ordering process for the Tuck is more involved than most other brands because they have a way to customize the mattress just for you and your partner. Here’s a screen shot of the first part of the questionnaire:

Tuck Mattress Questionnaire

Tuck will even ask you questions about your body type which I assume helps them refine how firm the mattress should be.

What I particularly like about the Tuck mattress is that they pay special attention to whether or not you are a couple. If so they will customzie each side so that you and your partner sleep well at night. There aren’t many mattresses on the market that do this and Tuck does an especially good job with this.

Tuck asks if you tend to sleep hot or cold at night. This will help them determine if they should use any of the newer cooling material in their foams if you are a hot sleeper.

There are other questions further along the survey and when you reach the end you get an overall score.

Construction of the Tuck Mattress

Since each Tuck mattress is made based on what you put in the questionnaire. However below are the specifications of the firmest Tuck option and the softest Tuck option. They also mention on their website that their configurations will range from a 5-7 on the firmness scale which I think is accurate. Even the softest option wasn’t overwhelmingly soft and the firmest option still had some good cushion.

The Tuck mattress cover has it’s own unique story in that it is the first mattress to have a cover made with Repreve fibers. Basically these are fibers made from recycled plastic so that it is a sustainable fiber. According to Tuck over 24 recycled water bottles go into every mattress cover.

My Tuck Mattress Findings

I was very impressed with the feel of this mattress. I ordered one based on my own specifications and the other side for my wife’s preferences. Despite our differences in weight, body types and other preferences, each side felt comfortable for me to sleep on. I think this speaks to the quality materials used in the mattress.

Here’s a look inside the Tuck to show you how each layer reacts.

The Tuck mattress will have more bounce than most because they use a pocket coil system and microcoils as well. Even though there is foam above the coils, you will find that this mattress bounces back into shape quickly, almost as much as a traditional mattress without foam.

Here’s a video illustrating motion transfer on the Tuck.

Below is a video that illustrates how quickly heat dissipates from the top of the Tuck mattress. The top foam layer is infused with copper which has a cooling effect. Since there are also two layers of coils beneath that, it breathes very well. I also found the cover to be breathable. The cover has a more substantial look and feel and I think that’s due to the unique materials they use to make it.

My Tuck Recommendation

The Tuck mattress is an excellent choice for couples who have different sleep preferences. They differences in firmness and cooling aren’t drastic but the are different enough to notice and to keep each partner comfortable. I found that the transitions between each side of the bed are subtle so you don’t feel like you are sleeping on separate beds.

We have had the Tuck mattress in the Sleep Sherpa Showroom in Minneapolis now for about 4 weeks and it has been getting a great response. If you like a mattress with more of a traditional spring feel, the Tuck would be a great choice. You get the springs no matter what configuration you choose.

This mattress will also work on an adjustable base, slats, a box spring or even the floor.

With the nice trial period and the ability to customize each side. The Tuck is a great choice for people who want the feel of a traditional mattress, the benefits of the latest generation foams and the ability to customize each size for optimal comfort.

  1. Bought a TUCK and spoke to a sales rep with specific questions……they totally ignored my quiz pertainiing to weight, reducing my weight by 50 pounds, I weigh 150 and they told me to enter 100 pounds and sent the PLUSH version, when I told them I needed back support, but a soft top feel without compromising firmness for my back…..they told us we could purchase another bed if the bed they sent did not work out, including a new trial period. When we contacted them they said we can purchase a new bed, but the trial period was null and void. Even Helix lets you purchase a second bed and the trial period extends to the new purchase. TERRIBLE company.

I went through the Tuck mattress process in August and found all of it to be incredibly user friendly and light hearted. I liked the idea of having something made for me. Not just sitting in a warehouse ready to ship out in two days. Knowing that they took extra time and effort making my bed solidified my decision. I have had shoulder and upper back soreness for as long as I can remember. Thanks to my Tuck that’s completely gone. I’m not only sleeping through the night but wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I spoke to a customer service rep when I was trying to determine if Tuck was right for me. She helped guide me through the process and assured me that the quiz would provide me with the composition I needed. I’m glad I went with them even though they are a newer company. I suggest Tuck to all my friends who are in the market for a new mattress and I wanted to pass it on to the site I found Tuck on!

Thanks Ben for the in-depth review of the Tuck. My wife and I were sleeping on a hand me down from her parents since we got married, and after ten years of that, knew it was time to step up and buy ourselves a real mattress. We gravitated to Tuck after reading the review as we were spooked by an all memory foam mattress, so a hybrid was a nice alternative. It was fun to customize each side of the mattress. Besides the rough time trying to get that beast of a bed up a flight of stairs, I feel dumb for not buying a new mattress years ago. The bed has been great and the both of us are sleeping much better in the couple months since setting up the Tuck.
