A new report from the CDC indicates that the amount of sleep people get is related to their income level. Poverty and sleep seem to go hand in hand. Not surprisingly the low income bracket takes it no the chin again by getting the least amount of sleep and the highest income earners with the most amount of sleep. I wrote in a previous post about sleep being a social justice issue and this report helps strengthen that case. It’s interesting to see that the correlations do not different metro to non metro areas. You can see the full report from the CDC here. I’m not sure what the solution is to poverty and sleep deprivation but it has impacts far beyond just the person experiencing sleep deprivation. Lack of sleep leads to lower productivity and higher rates of accidents.
