When Is President’s Day Mattress Sale?
President’s Day is on 17th February 2020. It is one of the best days for shopping mattresses on sale. The deals last for approximately a week, and it mainly depends on the brand to brand. But you will get the best deals during the President’s Day weekend.
Why Presidents Day Mattress Sale?
This holiday is in honor of the first U.S President George Washington’s birthday, which falls on 22nd February. This holiday is to celebrate all the U.S Presidents in history. The holiday falls on a Monday, and thus, it can take place on any day between these dates – February 15 and February 21.
The government offices and banks are closed on President’s Day, and thus, it has become a major shopping day for most mattress retailers. There are amazing deals not only on mattresses but also on electronics and furniture. Every year, mattress firms offer the best deals on President’s Day weekend.
When to Start Buying?
Even though the President’s Day weekend is quite far, many retailers have already begun advertising. It is wise to know the deals as early as possible as it will help you plan your deal day well.
Researching options on sale before the deal day about its quality, material, type, etc. can be helpful.
Where to Find President’s Day Mattress Day Deals?
Various sources can help you find the best Presidents Day Mattress Sale deals.
One of the best ways to find deals is by visiting the retailer website. The only negative point here is that most retailers do not post about the deals until the deal day.
Multiple ad sites scan and report mattress deals like us. It is best to have most of the deal in one place as it can help you save a lot of time.
Print newspapers feature President’s Day Mattress Sale deals by most major brands. The only drawback, in this case, is that since only the major brands feature their deals, you can miss out on most of the offers.
Online News Websites
These websites feature local offers from all brands, big and small. They even receive press releases from brands with genuine deal details.
Finally, this is also one of the best and most used ways to know about various deals and launches. If you know the brand you wish to buy the mattress from, newsletters can be helpful.
Leaving an Item in the Cart
If you sign in and leave an item in the cart, the brand will send you a reminder email. Such a reminder email often comes with discounts to make you complete the transaction.
Call and Ask
This is a direct but most ignored way of getting to know about the discounts. During the President’s Day Mattress Sale weekend, you can call and enquire. Some brands even give you an extra discount if you close the deal immediately over the call.
Why Shop for a Mattress Online?
While many people are comfortable shopping online like groceries, clothes, accessories, books, etc., There are still some items that people are hesitant to purchase online, and the mattress is one of them.
You may think of lying on the mattress once before buying, but experts say that those who have purchased a mattress like this have regretted their decision.
Now is the time to rethink the way you purchase a mattress. Below are some benefits of shopping online for a mattress compared to shopping at a brick and mortar store.
No Standing in Long Lines
One of the biggest drawbacks of buying a mattress from the brick and mortar store is the crowds and long lines, particularly on sale days like President’s Day. Holiday sales can be crowded in stores, and you would, of course, not want to test the mattress with a stranger lying beside you.
No Irritating Salesperson
Shopping online is the best option if you do not enjoy the commission-based salesperson stalking you at the store. While shopping online, no one would push you to purchase what gets them a huge commission.
Shopping at Your Own Pace
While shopping at the brick and mortar store, you would be in a rush to shop considering the store working hours. While shopping online, there is no rush, and you do not have to abide by the working hours as well as traffic.
You can relax on your armchair, at any time of the day and browse through the options available. No one will push you to purchase a mattress until you are ready.
Many online mattress companies offer sleep trials where you can test the mattress at your home. Sleep trials range from a month to a year based on the brand you pick.
For any reason you do not like the sleep experience, contact the brand, and they will arrange a pickup and issue a full refund to you at the earliest.
Free Shipping and Delivery
Most online mattress brands offer free shipping and delivery. The beds are rolled up, and so the set up is super simple. All you need to do is open the box and expand the mattress.
Some brands are happy even to offer you set up at no cost or a reasonable amount.
How to Get the Best Deal?
If it is your first time buying a mattress online, here are some tips that will help you make an informed purchase.
Know Your Needs
Some brands have plenty of options, while some have only a few. Knowing your requirements will have you narrow down the choices and make your shopping experience less stressful.
Fix a Budget
It’s essential to know your budget because mattresses come in different types and price ranges. Thus, setting a target price for yourself will help you finalize the mattress.
Rather than deciding a brand of mattress, you wish to purchase, it is wise to fix the type. You may notice that by comparing beds, you can get a higher quality mattress at a lower price by just changing the brand.
Read Online Reviews
Many brand websites have online reviews that can help you with the purchase. If you do not trust those, you can look through the independent review websites for in-depth and unbiased mattress reviews.
Call and Ask
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call and ask the brand’s customer care. You can contact them via phone or online chat to clear your doubts. You can even go through the FAQs listed on the brand website.
Shopping Tips for Buying Mattress Online
Buying a bed is a huge investment, and it may be tough to pick the right one. The shopping tips mentioned below will help you ease the burden.
Before buying a bed, check its warranty. Some brands may change the policy during the holiday sale period, and you would, of course, not want to buy the bed without warranty.
Discounted Vs. Real Price
A few retailers hike the price and then sell the mattresses at a huge discount. They try to change the perception of the people by showing them a huge discount, which makes them purchase the product.
Thus, it is wise to compare the product on as many websites as possible before making any concrete decision.
Some brands offer the least expensive mattresses during the holiday sale period, which can be a good deal to you.
The quality of the bed may not be suitable for regular use. Thus, ensure to check the return policy as a few retailers may change the policies and do not offer returns during the President’s Day Mattress Sale weekend.
Reading the fine print of the product before purchasing is essential because it includes all the hidden terms and conditions. For example, some brands offer discounts and rebates in the form of gift cards.
Lack of Specification Details
Do not buy from the retailer that provides limited specification details. Make sure to ask them as many questions as you like and be certain of your choice before purchasing.
We understand buying a mattress is a huge investment and can be tough during the holiday sale period with plenty of options. We hope this guide that we have put through helps you make an informed buy.

More about the Best Mattress for Sleep Apnea
If you are dealing with sleep apnea on a nightly basis you would probably be wondering if there is a perfect mattress to ease such symptoms. Fortunately, there are and you just need to know the essential factors that play a major role in your search process. The essential factors to consider include –
Construction and Build Material
The construction and build material of your mattress is likely to help with your sleep apnea problem
- Latex Mattress: Made from the sap of rubber trees these are light and airy material. Avoid buying synthetic latex when shopping for the best mattress for sleep apnea as it contains a petroleum base and chemical compounds that can affect breathing.
- Memory Foam Mattress: It offers superior pressure point relief by supporting the hips and lumbar area. Make sure you buy a high-quality product when purchasing a foam mattress. Innerspring mattresses and firm beds tend to lack pressure relief making them a less suitable choice for this purpose.
- Hybrid Mattress: Consists of an innerspring base with memory or latex foam as comfort layers. Check whether the hybrid mattress is compatible with an adjustable base.
Natural and Organic Material
If you have breathing problems the last thing you would want is a mattress that increases your breathing problems. Therefore, it is recommended to opt for natural and organic materials as opposed to synthetic ones. Synthetic mattresses are known to contain volatile organic compounds that trigger conditions of asthma, allergies, and respiratory problems. If an organic product is beyond your budget opt for a mattress that is hypoallergenic.
Sleepers with sleep apnea problems usually sleep on their sides, especially if they are using a CPAP machine. This would require a mattress that not only provides ample support but also enough contouring to relieve the pressure points at the shoulders and hips. Choose a mattress that would be firm enough to provide support while preventing you from sinking too deep to maintain the right alignment.
Best Mattress for Sleep Apnea FAQs
What Type of Mattress Is Best for Sleep Apnea?
If you are on a hunt for the best mattress for sleep apnea keep the different types of mattresses in mind before making a purchase. This includes –
- Memory Foam: The superior pressure point relief makes it a suitable choice for sleepers with sleep apnea problems.

- Hybrid: This combines innerspring base or core with a latex surface or memory foam. Choose a mattress that can adjust to your bed frame.
Can a Mattress Help Sleep Apnea?
An elevated bed will allow air to easily pass through the airways and into the vital organs. Although adjustable beds are not a solution to sleep apnea problems they can surely lessen the symptoms and bring more peaceful sleep to the user. A latex mattress can encourage a good sleeping posture, relax muscles and help with sleep apnea and insomnia problems.
Can a Bad Mattress Cause Sleep Apnea?
Sleeping on the wrong mattress can escalate the problems related to sleep apnea and insomnia. For severe cases of sleep apnea, the episodes can last the entire night with the sleeper waking up every thirty seconds.
Is It Better to Sleep on a Hard or Soft Mattress?
Sleepers who are experiencing troublesome back pain should opt for a firm mattress for a comfortable sleep. Firm mattresses are appropriate for sleepers who sleep on their back as they provide a more stable and even surface. Also, stomach sleepers find these mattresses more appropriate. Others may opt for a softer one.
Your hunt for the best mattress for sleep apnea comes to an end once you get to know the features that you should be considering while searching for one. Rest is just your personal preference and choice which may influence your decision of selecting one product over the others.

What to Know Before Buying a Mattress Online?
Not all kinds of beds are created equal, and each one has its own positive and negative points. Before you make a purchase decision, consider the different types available at the Labor Day mattress sale.
You need to choose a mattress based on your needs. Arya Nick Shamie, Professor of orthopedic and neurosurgery at UCLA Medical Center says, the bed should contour to your body in the neutral position.
Types of Mattresses
These are popular for its comfort, right spine alignment, and pressure point relief. These are the three common types of foam mattresses:
- Memory foam is petroleum-based foams which are not odor-free. They are known for their comfort and durability but are temperature sensitive.
- Gel memory foam is also a petroleum-based foam, infused with cooling gel to reduce heat retention. You may feel slightly cool on its initial touch.
- Organic foam has natural foam derived from plants that reduce odor. A few types emit VOCs and exhibit neutral temperature for quick responsiveness.
This mattress is on the firmer side. It is made using the sap of Talalay trees. It is anti-allergic because of its natural cell structure.
Latex mattress conforms to your body and provides a sufficient amount of pressure relief and does not let the sleeper sink in. Back and side sleepers are recommended this type of mattress.
A hybrid mattress is a combination of innerspring and foam mattresses with the right amount of contour as well as support. Foam provides contouring abilities while innerspring provides support. This type is recommended to side sleepers and heavier people.
The support layer of this mattress consists of a metal frame with coils as a cushion between the two frames. It provides the right amount of comfort and support. It also regulates how much your body should sink in.
The costlier models have a pillow top, which provides more comfort and cushion. It is recommended to heavier people and back sleepers.
Your sleeping position can determine the type of mattress you should purchase. The material from which the mattress is made determines the firmness it offers. People sleeping in a particular position requires a specific type. Know your sleeping position before shopping to narrow down your options.
Even though you know the type of mattress you wish to buy and the kind the sleeper you are, another aspect to decide before purchasing is the firmness preference.
The ideal firmness for a back sleeper is anything between a medium-firm and soft. Stomach sleepers prefer a firmer mattress and are comfortable on a mattress that is medium-firm to firm. Medium-firm to soft mattresses is ideal for side sleepers.
So, based on the type of sleeper you are, decide the firmness level. You may not know the right firmness level unless you sleep on it for a few days. This is why sleep trials play an important role.
Buying a mattress is a huge investment decision, and it could be difficult to pick the right one during the Labor Day mattress sale due to several options available. These shopping tips will ease off the burden, thus making it easier to make a purchase decision.
Discount vs. Real Price
This is the most important shopping tip to consider. Some retailers hike the price during the sale and then sell at a discounted price. This is known as price anchoring. Retailers try to anchor the perception of value, making the discounts seem huge to the shopper so that they purchase the mattress.
You need to compare the details of the mattress on various websites, look at the value and the discount to understand if there is any price anchoring. Warranty
Another point you need to watch out for is the warranty. A few brands may change their policy during the same period. You would not want to buy a bed without a warranty.
Just like some brands raise their prices and then give discounts on the bed, some even change their return policies. They may offer free return but not during the sale period
It is wise to check the policies to ensure you are not liable for any hidden charges after making the purchase.
Always check the fine print of deals because some terms and conditions may not be clear. For instance, some discounts can be only in the form of gift cards or you may have to mail them for the rebate offers within a specific time.
Most stores offer the least expensive beds during the sale to grab shopper’s attention, and this can be a good deal as well. But the mattresses can be of low quality and not appropriate for regular use or may not last long.
Lack of Details
Be careful of retailers that do not provide complete specification details. Ask them as many questions as you like and be sure of the things that matter to you the most.
Now, you know everything about the Labor Day mattress sale. We understand buying a bed is a big investment and should not be confusing. So, we have put together this guide to help you make an informed decision.

The Sweetnight 12-inch plush pillow top hybrid mattress, also known as the Sweetnight Island mattress, is loaded with features you’d find in an expensive mattress from a fancy showroom but at a fraction of the cost. The Sweetnight mattress features memory foam, motion-isolating individually-wrapped coils and it is CeriPUR-US Certified. I’m always amazed that a mattress like this can fit in a box. The Sweetnight was shipped for free via Amazon.
Overview of the Sweetnight Island 12-inch Mattress
I’m an avid online shopper for just about everything. Despite my online shopping habit, until recently I had never purchased a mattress without laying down on it first. When Sweetnight sent me this mattress to review I jumped at the chance. This was only my second experience with unboxing a vacuum-packed mattress. Watch the video below for my experience.
I’ve spent most of my life sleeping on standard coil spring mattresses. My sleep was often easily disturbed by my partner tossing and turning. The motion transfer was enough to disrupt my sleep. I am thoroughly impressed with the stability of the Sweetnight mattress and the minimal movement felt when my partner moved around. Not to mention, those individually wrapped coils support your body and help maintain proper back alignment and support.
Overall the mattress firmness of the Sweentnight is in the low to mid-range based on how it felt to me. This is what I would expect with a pillow-top and memory foam mattress.
How much does the Sweetnight 12-inch Mattress Cost?
I tested the King size of this mattress which is currently unavailable on Amazon. The queen and full sizes are reasonably priced for such a great night’s sleep.
Construction of the Sweetnight 12-inch Mattress
At the base of the mattress are the individually wrapped steel coils. On top of the coils is a layer of egg-crate style foam that promotes airflow. The gel memory foam sits on top of the foam and is topped with another layer of the egg-crate style foam. The mattress has a cooling and soft cover made from knitted fabric. The mattress is plush yet motion stable. For those who run hot, the cooling foam is an added benefit.
My Sweetnight Recommendation
It’s still early in my regular use of the Sweetnight 12-inch plush pillow top hybrid mattress but I see no evidence that the quality and comfort won’t hold up. There is virtually no outgassing from the mattress and the motion isolation coils surrounded by cooling and memory foam make this hard to beat. It’s a great value and the comfort rivals more expensive high-end mattresses. I am gifting this mattress to a friend, but I am giving it up with mixed emotions. I haven’t slept this well in weeks, so I might need to buy another for myself. Keep in mind you also get a 100 night trial with this mattress and a 10-year warranty so you have nothing to lose.

Tips For Shopping Mattress Online
With plenty of options and offers available on Prime Day, it may be difficult for you to pick the right one. We have put together a list of mattress shopping tips to help you make your purchase decision smoother and faster.
Know Your Requirements
Before jumping onto any deal, it is important to analyze what you need. Before Prime Day, ensure to spend some time understanding your needs and knowing what you want.
There are many considerations to make while looking for a mattress but start with the basics – What type of a sleeper you are?
Understand your sleeping position – on your back, side, or stomach, to determine the right type of mattress suitable.
What is the level of mattress firmness you require?
Based on your sleeping position and the purpose of buying the mattress, determine the firmness level. A person needing a soft mattress would not be comfortable on a firm bed and vice versa.
Do you suffer from any severe body pain?
If you suffer from any body pain, ensure to keep that as a priority while buying the mattress because this factor backs most considerations.
What material do you prefer?
Mattresses are available in different materials like memory foam, latex, organic, innerspring, etc. and each has its benefits. Understand your needs to pick the right material. For example, firmer versions of a spring mattress is suitable for back pain relief.
What size of the mattress to purchase?
You would, of course not want to buy a mattress on guesswork and regret later. Decide a size based on if you sleep alone or with a partner.
You, of course, do not want to be all over the web while a lighting deal strikes on Prime Day. Do your research in advance so that you do not waste time on it during Amazon Prime Day Mattress Sale.
While you are researching ensure you keep your requirements in mind and do not forget to check out reviews to know real user experience.
Fix Your Budget
Mattresses are available with different price tags. The queen size mattresses are available between $1050 and $2300 based on the brand, materials, and other considerations. You do not know the discount you will be getting on the mattress you wish to buy. Thus, we suggest you fix two budgets, the ideal price, and the maximum price you would like to pay.
Do Not Hurry
Though, Prime Day lightening deals require you to act fast but do not make a decision that you will regret in the future. We advise you not to settle for something you are not sure of and also do not be forced to take a decision.
Sale events keep coming up during the year, and you can invest during that time as well, though you may not receive the same amazing offer as on Prime Day Sale. So we suggest thorough research and knowing what you want will help you make the right decision.
Clear Your Doubts
Ask as many questions you have in the ‘question and answer’ section of Amazon. Brands and customers can answer the questions; thus, you can be sure of getting unbiased answers from customers and technical details from manufacturers.
If your doubt is still unsolved, call the brand’s customer service via email or contact number for help, and they will be happy to help you.
We hope to have made your purchase process simpler with this Amazon Prime Day Mattress Sale guide since we understand buying a mattress is a huge investment.

With so many options available on the market and deals everywhere, it might be challenging to cut the noise and get what you need. This guide will help you learn:
- How to find the best deals?
- Why should you shop a mattress online?
- Tips to help you get the best mattress deals
- Different types of offers explained
When do the Independence Day discounts begin?
Before we delve into the details of buying a mattress on the 4th of July, you need to know the basics first. Everyone knows the date of Independence but is that the only day for sale? Absolutely no, the deals extend for many days during the summer holidays.
You would find discounts at many e-stores from the end of June, and it extends for many days even after the holiday. You will find discounts at most places from June end to July third week while it depends on the brands mostly.
To make the most of the July 4th mattress sale, we have put together a guide of most popular and best deals.
Different 4th Of July Mattress Sales And Offers Explained
All the brands are offering discounts on July 4th, but this doesn’t mean that every discount is equal. Don’t just go shopping, but smarter shopping by knowing each sale type and what it means.
This is the amount that is taken off the original price. Some brands offer an instant discount of a particular amount on each type of bed. This is the same type that you should look for where you get instant money off.
It is the cashback that you get in your account after paying the full original price. You need to send a receipt to the brand to get a rebate. Some brands either give you money back in your account or a gift card. No doubt this type can help you save money as well, but you need to make full payment up front while buying.
This is the discount that you get when you purchase a few items together — for example, a mattress with an adjustable bed base or with pillows. Bundles are a good deal, but only if you want to purchase all the items that are being offered. If you don’t, do not choose this sale type option.
Why Should You Shop Mattress Online?
Many people do not prefer buying a mattress online because in their head, buying a mattress means visiting the offline store, lying down for a few minutes and going with the salesperson’s suggestion.
Well, physically lying down on the mattresses can not help you make the right choice. This is because a few studies have found out people who used this method of buying mattress often ended up with the wrong one. You, of course, wouldn’t want to pick a wrong mattress because it affects your health and is a huge investment too.
Don’t waste your holiday at a store waiting in the queue. With choosing to buy online, you can research in advance and enjoy the amazing discounts.
Following are the considerations to make before buying a mattress online:
Rather than lying on the mattress for a few minutes and deciding which one to purchase, most manufacturers offer a sleep trial. For a particular period of anything between 60 and 365 days, you get to sleep on the mattress and decide if that works well for you otherwise return it for a refund.
If you decide to return, the brand will reimburse the entire amount, but you may have to bear the shipping costs. Go through the sleep trial terms before purchasing.
No long Queues
When you shop long, you do not have wait on the long queues. Also, your purchase wouldn’t be dependant on the salesperson suggestion. You can make your own buying decision at the comfort of your home, at your speed.
You have a lot of time to research about the mattress, the brand, whatever you would like to, sitting at your home, at any time of the day.
We don’t say comparing isn’t possible when you visit the stores, but it is time-consuming. With online, it is simple to learn, compare, and buy different styles. Also, the salesperson will have limited knowledge, whereas online, you can look through several reviews and then make an informed decision.
Reviews are the best ways to learn how the mattress is in real life. Use reviews ( ours or other customer reviews) to know what bed is suitable for a specific sleep style, any problems that appear after use and other information.
Note: Avoid unconfirmed reviews because they can be written by anyone even if they have not made a purchase.
Free Shipping & Delivery
Most brands offer free shipping & delivery in the United States. Depending on the mattress you choose, some can be rolled up and shipped in a compact package. While those that come with complicated set up offer free delivery or a small fee.
Online Exclusive Offers
To your surprise, not all July 4th discounts are available offline only. Some discounts are online exclusive to reduce the strain on the stores and motivate online shopping.
How to Find the Best 4th of July Mattress Sales Deals?
The July 4th sale has impressive discounts on a variety of mattresses, but picking one could be tough. We have listed some useful tips which will help you choose the right mattress as per your needs.
Sleep Information and Mattress Review Websites
The sleep websites are the first place you should look for deals. They may even offer you promotional codes which could help you save more money. They will give you a heads up on the various Independence Day deals and also research about the product.
Many brand websites publicize Independence Day sales in advance. Often, the discounts are published via a banner at the home page. Some brands require you to enter a promotional code to avail the discount while at some, the process automatically appears in the cart during checkout. Check a week in advance and also on the Independence day.
If you have an ad blocker installed in your laptop, consider pausing it at least 10 days before the sale day. A few websites show pop-ups to inform the customers about the sales and promo codes. Ensure you pause the blocker, not to miss any deal.
Most online stores offer newsletters. To some, these may be irritating but subscribing to them before the sale can help get the best deals and exclusive promo codes. Ensure to check your spam as well because of some emails land in the junk folder.
Which brand doesn’t love word of mouth references? Mattress brands are no different. To encourage customer referrals, they offer exclusive discount codes. So if you have any of your family members or friends purchase the mattress, you can ask them for referral codes for additional discount (some brands give additional discounts over the Independence day sale while some don’t).
Brands notice that you are interested in purchasing from them and left something in your cart. To encourage you to buy, they would provide you an additional offer over the Independence day discount. This too depends from brand to brand.
Tips To Help You Land The Best 4th Of July Mattress Deal
Don’t be overwhelmed with the options and discounts available online. Follow these steps to find the best mattress deal and shop confidently.
Before you start looking for discounts and deals, understand what you are looking for. These points will help you:
Sleeping Position – what is your sleeping position – back, side, stomach, or combination has an important role in understanding which mattress to select.
Material – mattresses are made with different materials like foam, innerspring, latex, etc., each having its significance. A mattress should support your body in the neutral position, says, Arya Nick Shamie, Associate Professor of orthopedic and neurosurgery, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center. Understand what you need and choose the type accordingly.
Size – the mattress is available in multiple sizes for single or couple sleepers. With the help of your requirements, determine a size to choose.
Firmness – some people find comfort in soft mattress while others like to have it firm. Look through the various options based on your needs.
Weight – The weight of the sleeper directly affects the mattress buying decision. The mattress should be thicker and firmer if you are heavyweight and vice versa.
Temperature Regulation – if you are a hot sleeper, you would want o buy a mattress with cooling properties. Look for beds having airflow property online.
Motion Isolation – if you are sleeping with your partner, you would want to consider buying a mattress having this feature. So, look for materials that offer the best motion isolation.
The Earlier, The Better
Some brands start the July 4th sale from the end of June. If you want to buy a mattress, it is wise to get one as early as possible because you never know, stocks may not last for quite a while.
Mattresses are available at varied prices. The average cost of a queen size bed is between $1045 and $2280 based on the size and materials. Set a budget so that you don’t get carried away by the offers which are still too expensive on your pockets.
Take Your Time And Compare
Even if you know what mattress you want to buy and also have found an option to give yourself some time to compare and research. Based on the material, the mattress can last you for 5 to 8 years so take time out and find the right option.
Read as many online reviews as possible before making the purchase. As mentioned above, make sure you only consider the confirmed reviews. You can go through reviews on the independent review websites.
Clarify Your Doubts
Not visiting the store doesn’t mean that your doubts remain unanswered. Most brands have excellent customer service, and you can reach out to them via E-mail, chat, or call. Also, check out their FAQ page which has answers to common questions.
Know About The Warranty
Just like in stores online mattresses also come with a warranty of a minimum of 10 years being the industry standard. Physical issues like cracks, flaws in the foam, and other manufacturing defects are covered in the warranty.
Just like sleep trials, some brands of warranties for more than ten years. Ensure to read through full warranty details before buying.
You invest a lot of money in buying a mattress and thus it need not be confusing. Ensure you do not only focus on the price tag while buying in the July 4 mattress sale but consider other important points as well that make your investment worthy.

A mattress is something that you don’t need to buy every day, that’s why it becomes so confusing when you finally go out to purchase one. There are so many options and so many different brands available that any first-time mattress buyer will be left fumbling in the dark. Besides, a mattress is often expensive to purchase. If you go for the cheapest option available it usually ends up getting worn out in a short time. And if you look for quality, you should be prepared to spend a substantial amount of money. Given this situation, it is no surprise that most people put off buying a mattress and keep sleeping on their old, sagging bed for years.
To make a mattress purchase easier on your wallet, you should take advantage of mattress sale. There are certain days in a year when everything is on sale and highly discounted, including bedding and mattresses. This is the time when that plush memory foam queen mattress you have been eyeing for months could finally become yours. The Fourth of July sale may still be a few months away, but what is about to happen in just a few days is the Memorial Day sale.
If you look around on online stores, you will find that almost every item has been discounted in the run-up to Memorial Day. Between the 23rd and the 27th of May 2019, you can purchase even the most expensive mattresses at a discounted price, something that does not happen very often. These discounts are not easily available at brick-and-mortar stores. The biggest Memorial Day discounts are only online.
Benefits of Buying A Mattress Online
There are people who are ready to buy everything online but not a mattress. This is mainly because they haven’t had a chance to check out the mattress before purchase. But various studies have found that checking out a mattress in a store does not necessarily offer better customer satisfaction. That’s because all mattresses require some time to break in and the five-minute lie down in the store is far from enough. There is not much difference between buying a mattress at a store and online, especially if you choose a reputed manufacturer and a quality product.
Besides, the best discounts are only available online. If you have never bought a mattress online, here are a few reasons why you should:
Avoid the Crowd
If you’ve ever been to a Black Friday sale, you know the kind of crowds that happen on these days. It seems like all bargain-seekers flock to one place, resulting in long queues, packed aisles, and clogged-up parking lots. Going to shop for a mattress at a store on one of these days is likely to result in a disappointing and exhausting experience because there’s a lot of push and shove and not enough mattresses to try out. This is when online sites are such a boon. You don’t have to navigate through the swarms of people or end up soaked to your skin while waiting in the traffic. Browse from the comfort of your home and have the mattress delivered to your doorstep in a few days.
When you shop for a mattress online, you can do it any time, and any day you want to. There are no closing hours or traffic to deal with. You can shop early in the morning, during the day or even at midnight. This is the convenience that isn’t found in brick and mortar stores.
No matter how big a store, it can only have a limited selection of mattresses or floor models for customers to test. In a brick and mortar store, only the most popular models are easily available, but the less common mattress types are not. In comparison, online mattress brands have a much wider range of models, from basic mattresses to luxury and cutting-edge products. And you don’t even have to leave your house to check them out.
Verified Buyer Reviews
At a brick and mortar store, there are customer reviews. All you have are the sales staff, and they are famous for lying about a product or trying to make you buy the most expensive option. They are also limited in their knowledge of mattresses. But online customer reviews can provide real insight about a mattress. Don’t stick to only the reviews on the manufacturer’s website, because they usually highlight the positive ones while omitting the negative reviews. Sites like Amazon usually have both positive and negative review from customers, from which you can learn if the product will suit you.
Free Shipping and Delivery
There is no free delivery at brick-and-mortar stores. You either have to take your mattress home or pay a hefty charge for having it delivered to your house. That’s not the case with online mattress brands. Almost every online mattress store has free shipping and delivery options a; over the US, while some also deliver to Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories. Free standard delivery usually has the mattress compressed and roll-packed in a box. After the buyer unboxes the mattress, it should be aired out for a few days and allowed to expand.
Buyers can also choose to have their mattress not compressed during delivery. Some companies also have White Glove delivery service at an extra charge, which offers in-home setup of the mattress. White Glove delivery doesn’t bring the mattress compressed, so there’s no need to let it expand. While White Glove is expensive, some brands offer it for free, usually if the mattress is highly pricey.
Because customers cannot check out the mattress before purchase, online companies offer an in-home sleep trial for a certain number of days. Brick and mortar stores never have sleep trials because you get to check out the mattress in the store. But almost every online mattress brand today offers a trial period, anywhere between 90 and 365 nights. During this period, a customer can use the mattress to find out if it suits them. If the customer is not satisfied within the trial period, they have the option to return the product and get a full refund. A trial period is often far better than checking out a mattress for five minutes at a store.
Online shopping is famous for offering the lowest prices, and it’s the same with mattresses. Because online stores don’t have overhead costs, physical locations or salespeople, they can afford to offer products at a lower price. If you can take advantage of special events like Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving or the upcoming Memorial Day, you can make big savings on your mattress purchase. These discounts or low prices are not available at physical stores because they have a lot of overhead costs.
How to Track Memorial Day Discounts and Deals?
Keep in mind that Memorial Day mattress sale lasts only a few days, so you must hurry. If you don’t know about upcoming sale events, it can be hard to get on board on time. There are a few ways to keep track of upcoming sale events, such as:
Signing Up for Newsletters
When you sign up for a brand newsletter, you are usually one of the first to know about upcoming sale and deals. The emails simply drop into your inbox, and all you have to do is check them regularly for the best offers.
Keep an eye on promo code websites to find out when a deal is going live. Promo codes are also a great way to save money on things you buy, even if it isn’t mattresses.
Leaving an Item in Your Cart
Sometimes, leaving an item in your cart is a great way to make the seller drop the price. This is done to entice you into buying it. You can apply the same trick to your mattress purchase. Simply add the item to your cart and leave it there. You may find the price decreasing in the following days. If that happens, go ahead and buy it.

For the longest time, we have depended on the mattress to solve most of our sleep problems. But even the most expensive mattress begins to sink and gets dips within the first five years. The more the mattress sags, the lower is the support provided to the body. No matter what kind of mattress you buy, you cannot keep it from sagging. Sooner or later, it is going to dip and sag, leaving you with an improper sleep position.
This is one of the reasons why several people change their mattress so often. A sagging mattress has little firmness and fails to provide your body with the support it needs for proper proper sleep. When you keep sleeping on this worn-out mattress, you develop soreness and aches and pains in various parts of your body. You believe that you are suffering from some ailment when the actual culprit is your mattress.
Unfortunately, mattresses will sag. There’s not much to do about it. But instead of relying only on a mattress for proper sleep, why not choose another solution for quality rest? That’s right; we are talking about a body pillow. It is the next best alternative to a mattress for adding in a good night’s sleep. Whether you suffer from medical conditions that make it hard for you to sleep at night or sleep on a mattress that does not provide enough support, a body pillow can make sleeping a more comfortable and relaxing experience.
What Is A Body Pillow?
A pillow that’s narrow and long and runs the entire length of the body is called a body pillow. Initially, body pillows were mostly used by pregnant women for extra support during sleep. But these pillows have gained massive popularity in recent years because they provide support to the whole body when the mattress fails to do so.
A lot of people prefer to sleep with a cuddle pillow. But these pillows are usually small and do not provide support to the entire body. A body pillow is soft and comfortable but firm enough to support the top leg (for side sleepers), torso, back, and arms throughout the night. Body pillows are counted among the best orthopedic pillows and are widely available online, at bedding stores, and
What Is Body Pillows Made Of?
A body pillow is no different than a regular pillow and can be made of a variety of materials. Some of the materials that a body pillow is made of are:
Shredded latex: Body pillows with an outer cotton casing and a shredded latex fill are bouncy and conform to the shape of your body. Shredded latex body pillows are great for those who suffer from neck and shoulder pain because it’s responsive and keeps the spine aligned while hugging the body. Natural latex is hypoallergenic and can be conveniently used by those with allergies.
Memory Foam: Body pillows are also made with memory foam, another hypoallergenic material. Memory foam is breathable and comfortable and also regulates temperature. The firmness of the pillow can also be adjusted according to preference.
Wool: If you want a body pillow that keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, then choose wool. Because wool is a natural insulator, it keeps you comfortable in all seasons. Wool body pillows are comfortable to sleep with, and also keep the back and spine aligned, regardless of your sleep position.
Feather/Down: Although body pillows made of feather or down are soft, they aren’t capable of providing the best support. Besides, feather or down can cause allergies, which doesn’t make them suitable for all.
Wool-Latex Blend: When wool and latex are combined to make a body pillow, it becomes soft and supportive at the same time. The combination of shredded latex and wool gives the pillow a firmer feel, while the wool functions like a natural insulator and promotes breath-ability and circulation. The latex makes the pillow responsive while keeping your spine aligned and helping relieve pressure points.
Kapok: Cotton makes for some of the most breathable and comfortable body pillows. Kapok cotton is used to make organic body pillows, which have the same fluffiness of down without the feathers. Cotton pillows keep you cool on hot nights, providing proper support for side sleepers, spine alignment, and pressure relief.
Benefits of A Body Pillow
Pillows are used by everyone for comfort. But pillows are also great at providing support to the body. These days, there are orthopedic pillows, which are ergonomically designed to provide support to various parts of the body. There are pillows for the legs, for the back and spine, and for the neck and shoulders. Body pillows combine the support of all pillows into one. If you have a body pillow, you can use it for supporting any part of the body or the entire body.
Some benefits of the body pillow are:
Spinal Alignment: Keeping the spine aligned is of utmost importance when sleeping. When we sleep, we often aren’t aware of our position. This leads to soreness when we wake up. A body pillow keeps the sleeper supported no matter which position he sleeps in, improving spinal alignment and keeping aches and pains away.
Pressure Relief: When we are in a supine position, our body takes the maximum pressure. This is heightened if the mattress isn’t supportive enough. A body pillow provides extra support, relieving the pressure and preventing soreness.
Improved Circulation: When your sleep position isn’t proper, your blood circulation is also poor. A body pillow keeps you supported and comfortable, keeping your sleeping position right and improving circulation.
Diminished Snoring: A body pillow can be used to elevate the upper part of the body, to help with snoring and sleep apnea. Body pillows designed for sleep apnea makes sure that the sleeper remains in a side sleeping position all through the night, helping relieve symptoms of sleep apnea like obstructed breathing, snoring, coughing, and dry mouth.
Body pillows are available at all bedding stores or online marketplaces. Quality body pillows last long and provide ample support for the whole body.
If the thought to buy mattress online seems frightening, you’re not alone. With the enormous numbers of mattress manufacturers offering a mind boggling variety of options, it can sure be confusing to find the right pick. The online mattress industry is growing with leaps and bounds, with several new companies coming into the business and adding to the zillion options already available. Each company tries to come up with an innovative technology that will make them stand out from the rest and attract customers. The competition is only getting high in the mattress industry, and while that means more options for those looking for a quality mattress, it’s also a lot more time-consuming to browse through the overwhelming number of options and find the right one.
The online mattress industry is already at $20+billion, with newer companies constantly coming in. There are several companies that are already many years old, and there are brands that are new in the business. All of them claim to be better than everyone else, making a choice even harder for customers.
You are going to find a wider variety of mattresses online than anywhere else. Even though there are a lot of options to sort through, there are several definite advantages of buying a mattress online.
Advantages of Buying Mattress Online
Even until a few years ago, mattress shopping used to be a time-consuming task. With online retailers not as abundant, the only option was to travel from one store to another, trying to find a suitable bed. Once you found the right one, it was your job to transport the mattress, unload it and unbox it. The whole process was so tedious that people put off buying a new mattress until their bed was falling apart.
With online shopping, the process of buying a mattress is a breeze. You can sit at the office and place your order for a new mattress, and have it delivered to your house in a matter of days. In fact, online retailing is so popular today that brick and mortar stores are also offering their products online. After all, when you have more convenience online, why bother traveling to brick and mortar stores to check out mattresses?
More Options When you Purchase Mattress Online
It can never be doubted that there are far more options online that you will ever get to see at a showroom. Online retailers have no showroom. Once you choose a mattress from the online listing, they either make one for you or ship one to you from their warehouse. Thousands of mattresses are available at just a touch or a click, without the need to spend days dropping into several different stores. Whether you want a twin or a queen, memory foam or natural latex, under $500 or a luxury mattress, there’s everything available online. And the best thing is, you can browse, shop around and purchase without wasting precious time.
The convenience of Buying Mattress Online
Mattresses are heavy, and if you don’t have the strength or the right vehicle, it can be a nightmare to bring a mattress home. When you shop online, the mattress is delivered to your doorstep and sometimes even unboxed and installed for you. The customer doesn’t have to load and unload the mattress or worry about having it shipped home. That’s the convenience you enjoy only with online shopping.
Compare Prices of Mattresses Online
If you had to compare prices of mattresses from two different showrooms, you would have to visit the showrooms, get quotes, come home and device and then go again to make a purchase. With online shopping, you can compare prices of different products and brands without having to go anywhere. Simply visit the websites of each mattress company and see their prices. It’s that easy. When you find the most affordable option, you can make a purchase.
Sleep Trial of Online Mattress Companies
Online mattress companies offer something that no brick and mortar showroom ever does– free sleep trial. That means you sleep on the mattress during the trial period to find out if it suits you. If it does, you keep it. If it doesn’t, you can return it within the trial period and get a full refund. And that’s not all. It’s the company’s job to pick up the mattress just the way it got delivered to you. That’s not something that you get when you buy a mattress from a showroom.
Best Places to Buy Mattress Online
When it comes to online mattress shopping, you can always buy one from Amazon. But when you buy a branded mattress from a third-party site, you lose out on perks like free shipping, sleep trial, and warranty. These are available only when you purchase the mattress directly from the retailer.
Now that we know the benefits of buying a mattress online let’s look at the top websites where you could head for your next purchase.

Updated May 2021
The Nectar is a four-layer mattress using a gel-infused quilted memory foam layer and a dense foam core. That provides a cool breathable top gel layer sleeping surface with an overall great comfortable feel and medium firmness that has been engineered to reduce hot spots.
Nectar Mattress is a new memory foam mattress company that is upping the free trial ante with a 365 day free trial period. This more than triples the length of many of the online mattress company trial periods. Amazingly, you get to sleep on it for a whole year before deciding if it’s right for you. That means you get to experience through all four seasons. Aside from the amazing trial period, it just feels great. Pay attention to the details in this mattress review. This isn’t just another typical foam mattress, it has some significant advantages over the competitors. It has a medium-firm feel but because it conforms so well, it feels great no matter what your firmness preference is.
This mattress is truly versatile enough to accommodate any sleeping position. It is firm enough for stomach and back sleepers for lumbar support but also conforms for side sleepers. Nectar was named one of the Best Mattresses of 2019!
Nectar is also listed as one of the best mattresses for heavy people.
Overview of the Nectar Bed
Here’s a video of me speaking about some of the great features. What you’ll notice immediately is the quilted cover. Nectar stitches memory foam into the cover for a unique feel. You get an initial soft feeling then will transition into the support layers. You sink just enough for maximum pressure relief but not too much to where it would be hard to change positions at night.
Unboxing the Nectar Sleep Mattress
Your Nectar will arrive in a box like the one below and ships quickly!
The Nectar is available to try in the Sleep Sherpa store and so we unbox a fresh Nectar every 3 months or so. Here’s a video of me unboxing one. As you can see the construction is the same but the logo has been updated a little. This mattress is very popular among customers in our store.
Below is a brochure that explains the generous trial period. Again, it’s a 365 night trial period which so far is unheard of in the industry. This mattress also comes with the “Forever Warranty” meaning that as long as you own it, Nectar will warranty it against indentations over a certain amount. Although this is a very generous benefit, I am more impressed by the overall feel, price and generous trial period.
What is also interesting is that you can finance with no credit check required with no interest financing. You simply break out the payments into monthly installments.
How to Order the Nectar Sleep Mattress
Owning NECTAR is easy with No Credit required 6-month no-interest financing plan.
You only need the following to order today –
- A source of income and this does not need to be a job
- A credit card or debit card to make the low initial and monthly payments
No credit checks required and approval is instant
You will enjoy the product immediately and own outright on the day of your final payment
- You can buy out your payment schedule at any time after 90 days
For people that don’t want to settle for a mediocre mattress, they are competitively priced but since they also add financing it makes it even more accessible. Of course, you can also pay by credit card all at once.
Nectar also offers white glove delivery. The will set up your new mattress and remove the old mattress. The cost for white glove delivery is $149
Where Can I Try the Nectar Mattress?
The Nectar mattress is now available to try in person at many mattress stores around the country. You can find a store close to you by using the store locator on their website.
Review of Construction and Specifications
Here’s how the Mattress is made:
- 1″ Top Comfort Layer – The cover is made of Tencel fiber which is a soft and very breathable material. It sleeps cooler than cotton and helps wick away moisture.
- 1″ Support Layer – Underneath that is a quilted 4lb. cooling gel foam layer which is something unique. It gives the mattress a unique feel and provides great pressure relief.
- 3″ Transition Layer – The fourth layer is what they call Hi Core Memory Foam. This is a dense foam that also is great for pressure relief.
- 6″ Foundation Layer – This is a standard base layer similar to most other memory foam mattresses but is essential for providing good support.
How Thick is a Nectar Mattress?
|Top Tencel Layer||1 inch||n/a|
|Cooling Gel Support Layer||1 inch||14|
|Transition Layer||3 inches||15|
|Base Layer||6 inches||55|
How Much Does Nectar Mattress Cost?
Nectar is one of the most competitively priced dense foam mattresses on the market. A queen size retails for $699 along with a set of premium pillows included.
If you are unsure what size you need, check out their mattress size and dimension guide.
|Size||Price with 2 premium pillows|
You can also finance the Nectar mattress through Affirm. This will allow you to pay in monthly installments.
Does it Need a Foundation?
Actually, it doesn’t require a foundation however you can put it on a foundation as long as it is firm. It also works on an adjustable bed, wood slats or even the floor.
What is the Nectar Forever Warranty?
Nectar introduced what they call, “The Forever Warranty”. This means that they guarantee the construction, and durability to the original purchaser.
Here are the details of the warrant as listed on their website:
- For the first 10 years of ownership, we will replace your mattress with a brand new Nectar at absolutely no charge to you if defective in workmanship and materials. In years 10+ Nectar will completely repair and re-cover your Nectar, or replace your Nectar. All transportation charges will be waived if a manufacturing defect(s) or a materials failure is confirmed to exist.
- Nectar also offers the “Choice Option” as part of our Forever Warranty™. If you are choosing the “Choice Option”, YOU KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL MATTRESS. At your choice, instead of us repairing or replacing your defective Nectar in years 10+, we will deliver a brand new one for 50% of the original price you paid.
- Your mattress must be used on an appropriate base such as a platform bed or other suitable bed frame.
- The warranty applies only as long as the original owner.
- The warranty does not apply if burned or otherwise abused, damaged, misused, or neglected.
- In order to provide the most optimum sleeping surface, the Nectar contains only the finest quality materials. As with all premium sleep products, certain adaptations will take place as your mattress adjusts to your body shape. This is to be expected and is part of the performance. Normal body impressions (not greater than 1.5”) are not defects and are not covered by the warranty. Excessive body impressions of greater than 1.5” are covered by the Forever Warranty until…Forever.
How Long will the Nectar Mattress Last?
Given the construction and the fact that it is a denser foam mattress, I expect you can get around 7-8 years out of this mattress before you notice lasting impressions or lack of support. Since Nectar is a relatively new company it’s hard to say for sure but based on my experience with similar construction this would be my best guess.
Will the Nectar Work with an Adjustable Bed?
Yes. The Nectar is ideal for adjustable beds because it contours so well.
How Do I Return A Nectar Mattress?
The biggest complaint about Nectar is their customer service. They are impossible to reach on the phone so your best way to contact them is on their website through chat. Just make sure you have your order number ready which is provided on your email confirmation receipt when you first place your order. With that, they can facilitate the return. Just keep in mind mattress pickups can be delayed if they are extra busy. That’s why I always recommend starting the return process a few weeks before the trial is over.
Findings and What Makes it Unique
Here are some preliminary shots of the Nectar Sleep Bed:
It will slowly cradle you. Here’s a picture of my 14 lb. bowling ball:
I also took off the cover to show you the inside of the Nectar mattress and how it responds. This is one of the best you can get for pressure relief. Notice that it recovers slowly. The negative here is that changing positions will be a little more difficult but the positive is that I don’t think you will need to change positions at night because of how well it conforms.
Here’s a video of the quilted cover. This is what really sets it apart. It is a dense foam layer quilted into the covering. Quilting foam into the costs more from a manufacturing standpoint but it is well worth it. I haven’t felt anything quite like this before.
Below is a video illustrating heat retention. I was surprised at the result. Given it has a gel memory foam quilted into the cover, I expected much more heat retention. The reason it performed so well is that the cover is made with a Tencel fiber that is much more breathable than cotton. Added to that is a phase change material that draws heat away. Other ultra-dense foam mattresses I have tested don’t come close in terms of drawing away heat.
You don’t need to worry about waking up your partner at night. There’s virtually no motion transfer! Check out the video below. Keep in mind, if your partner tosses and turns at night, this will affect your quality of sleep as well.
Here’s another video review showing how well it performs with motion transfer. In fact, my engineering team found this to be the best for isolating motion of all the mattresses they have tested. Sleep disturbances from your partner is a leading cause of poor sleep and Nectar addresses this head-on.
Nectar is a great mattress for addressing lower back pain. Yes, you will get good pressure relief but if you experience lower back pain this mattress will support and cradle your lower back so you don’t wake up in pain every morning.
Are there any Complaints?
The biggest Nectar complaints that I have heard are the long wait times. Due to demand customers can experience waits over a few weeks before their product arrives. In my opinion, it is well worth the wait. With the recent coronavirus pandemic, shipping times are delayed so keep that in mind. It may take 2-3 weeks for your mattress to arrive instead of the typical 5 business days.
Does it have any Off Gas Smell?
Again, since the Nectar is a denser foam mattress, it will be prone to more off-gassing. I think that’s because there’s simply just more material to off gas. You can expect the smell to go away after about 3-4 days with most of the smell dissipating within 2 days.
I often recommend opening the mattress in the morning so that it has all day to breathe before you sleep on it at night. If you are especially sensitive to smells, you may also want to open your windows. The smell is not permanent and will eventually go away.
How do you return the Nectar Mattress?
Returning is easy. If you find that you don’t like it within the 365 day home trial period, you just contact their customer serviced department and they will arrange pickup of the mattress. You do not have to put it back in the box and you do not have to pay return shipping. You aren’t out any money. It’s a clean break.
My Nectar Mattress Final thoughts
For the money, this is one of the best dense foam mattresses I have reviewed. It is made in China but I didn’t notice any major off-gassing. It is also Certipur Certified so the foams used in the construction are tested to be free of any harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde. This is extremely comfortable and I love how it conforms so well to your body.
A big complaint of dense foam is that they sleep hot. That’s because memory foam is an insulator and the denser the foam the more it will insulate. By incorporating a phase change material into the mattress ticking and quilting cooling gel foam into the top layer, Nectar has created a very innovative and effective to give you the best combinations of support, pressure relief, motion isolation and cooling.
I am very impressed with the quilted cover and I was very surprised at how quickly it dissipated heat. A queen size $699 which is substantially less than others of this quality and construction.
One of the biggest complaints is when they launched was problems with backorders. I don’t think they quite anticipated how much demand there would be and therefore had a hard time keeping up. The company has now caught up on their backorders and you can expect to receive your package in about 10 days after placing your order.
Just recently in the news again. Giving TV talk show host Wendy Williams a free Nectar after her fainting spell during her Halloween Special and was again featured for a holiday giveaway…

A mattress is not something you need to buy every six months, but when you do, it can be quite an experience. For first-timers, buying a mattress can seem like a hassle because of the different options available and the different price points. Do you buy foam or innerspring? Do you buy a regular mattress or a luxury bed, and what exactly is the difference between the two? Should you try a mattress before purchase or choose the more convenient option of online shopping?
It isn’t surprising that a lot of people end up with the wrong mattress thanks to the confusion created by the variety of products. We don’t always pay attention to it, but a mattress is crucial to our sleep quality. Therefore, choosing a reputed brand and quality materials are important in order to ensure that you pick the right bed.
But when you bring home your new mattress, you might be baffled by a small tag on one side that is supposedly illegal to remove. Really? A mattress tag is illegal to remove?! However, upon closer look, you will discover something entirely different. Let’s find that out.
What Are Mattress Tags?
Almost everything that you buy comes with some kind of a label. This is where all the important information about the product is provided, such as the brand, the size, the material, and care instructions. From clothing to bedding to cosmetics to household goods, almost all commodities come with tags. Not surprisingly mattresses also come with such a tag. This is where the manufacturer, the material, the place of manufacture, and care instructions are listed. But, besides that, something else is also written on this mattress tag: “Do Not Remove Under Penalty of Law.”
Seeing a label like this on a mattress (or on any commodity) can be amusing, and also a laughing matter. Why on earth would the law care about what people did with mattress tags? Doesn’t the law have enough to deal with already?
If you want to remove the tag for whatever reason, the fear of legal action can prevent you from doing so. But really, how would anybody find out if you had removed the tag from your mattress? The last time we checked, the police did not perform routine inspections on households to find out if they had removed the tag from the mattress. The police have more important things to do.
If the “Do not remove under penalty of law” tag on your mattress has ever puzzled you, it’s time you looked closer. There are three little words to dispel your fear: “except by consumer.”
What Is This All About?
That little tag on the mattress is for the consumer’s safety, but the warning is for the seller. The consumer is not only allowed to cut off the tag, but they can also cut open an entire mattress and do whatever they want to with it. No one from the law is ever going to be concerned with it. However, if you are a manufacturer or seller, then you should take the tag very seriously because removing it (or not putting it there at all) can land you in trouble.
The tag is put in place to assure customers that they are buying a new, never-used mattress that’s been made of quality, safe, and hygienic materials. If there is no tag on a mattress, it has a questionable origin. Although there is an interesting story behind how the tag came into existence, its purpose is to inform consumers about the quality of the product they are purchasing and if it is safe for use.
A mattress is something that you sleep on every night. It comes into direct contact with your skin and breath. That is the reason why should be as safe and hygienic possible. You wouldn’t want to find out later that the mattress you’ve been sleeping on is actually stuffed with discarded hospital bedding. Filthy, right? That’s exactly the reason why the mattress tag came to exist.
The Story Behind the Tag
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the modern mattresses we get now did not exist. Mattresses were very basic items, something that people did not put much thought into during purchase. This gave manufacturers a free run and made government officials very concerned about the safety of materials that were used to stuff mattresses. In order to cut costs, manufacturers went as far as to recycle old and used bedding to make “new” mattresses. As a result, the new mattresses weren’t really new or never-used. They were full of bacteria and posed health risks to users.
The fear was greater about bedding from hospitals being used to stuff new mattresses. The indiscriminate use of discarded hospital bedding items was spreading infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and smallpox.
The tag was put into place for ending these unsanitary practices. Initially the tag was meant to list all the materials that were used to stuff the mattress. But later, to make sure that manufacturers or sellers did not remove the tag, the legal warning was added.
However, confusion arose among consumers about what to do with the tag. To clear things up, the words “except by consumer” were added later to the warning.
Penalties for No-Tag Mattresses
If you ever find a mattress that is being sold without this tag, it’s either a fake product or it’s stuffed with questionable materials. That’s not all. You can report the manufacturer selling mattresses without the tag. The penalty can range from a legal notice served to the manufacturer or seller to stop removing the tags or provide the correct information, to a fine of up to $1,000. Although this is a federal law, the design of the label and the information that it lists are decided by each state. If a mattress is recycled, then every material used for the stuffing should be listed on the tag. This ensures that consumers receive a product that’s safe and hygienic.
There is no dearth of choices when it comes to buying mattresses, online or offline. You have the option of visiting your local brick and mortar stores. Alternatively, there’s always the choice to sit back and order online. Be warned, there are dozens of brands, and hundreds of stores and that can be confusing to figure out best mattress store. From where do you get the best deal or the mattress of your choice? Read on. This guide should help.
What Factors Matter?
- Right off the bat, one must say that the word “best” is not very defining but encompasses various parameters such as returns, customer service, prices, delivery and brands. For example, if you are looking for specialist brands or types of mattresses, the best store may not have it in stock. As can be seen, most stores sell popular and fast-moving brands like Sealy, Seta, Tempur-Pedic, Stearns and Foster and Simmons.
- For some people, returns may be the most important thing. You may buy a mattress online based on its looks, but you will find it uncomfortable. If you have the ease of free returns and a full refund or free exchange you will rate that store to be the best above others that charge processing fees. Mattresses may be good for 3 months after which they are likely to develop hollows due to body weight, and you feel like returning it. In this case, sellers that offer an extended trial period may be to your liking.
- Then again you may be the type that likes to buy top quality mattresses, and you look for the lowest price. In this case, the store that offers the lowest price with free doorstep delivery is potentially the best for you.
- A mattress is not something you can tuck under your arm and carry home. Therefore, if you shop at a local brick and mortar store, you want a store that has both varieties in types of mattress and various brands in addition to free delivery. If you find a store in your neighbourhood that satisfies these criteria, then it is the best for you.
