Layla Mattress Review 2019
Best Dual Sided Mattress 2024
Layla

It's a copper mattress, it's a cooling mattress, it's a dream in a box.

We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.

The Layla mattress was first introduced to the market in 2016 by a company called Layla Sleep. Layla Sleep was founded by two brothers, Akrum and Amir Sheikh, who were inspired to create a mattress that would provide a comfortable and supportive sleep experience.

The Layla mattress is unique in that it is designed to be flippable, with a soft side and a firm side. The soft side is made of copper-infused memory foam, which is designed to provide pressure relief and contouring. The firm side is made of high-density foam, which provides more support and a firmer sleep surface.

In addition to its flippable design, the Layla mattress is also known for its use of copper-infused foam. Copper has been shown to have antimicrobial properties, which can help keep the mattress fresh and clean. Copper is also a good conductor of heat, which can help regulate the temperature of the mattress and keep sleepers cool.

Since its introduction, the Layla mattress has received positive reviews from customers and industry experts alike. In addition to its unique design, the mattress is also known for its affordability and its generous trial and warranty periods. Today, Layla Sleep continues to offer a range of sleep products, including pillows, sheets, and bed frames, in addition to its popular mattress.

I received a free Layla mattress for review. Layla was created by mattress industry experts and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. It’s a killer blend of industry expertise and technology disruptors. What you get is a quality mattress with a creative twist at a great price. Layla is the first mattress to come out with copper-infused foam. This is a big deal because it offers a host of new advantages most importantly is cooling. This mattress can be flipped so you can have a soft and firmer layer depending on preferences.

Ordering and Unboxing Your Layla Mattress

You can order the Layla mattress directly from their site at Laylasleep.com. According to their site, they have a 4-month trial period which is now standard in the online mattress world. However, what is not standard is their new lifetime warranty that warrants against defects for the entire time you own the mattress. The details can be found on their warranty page. The mattress will arrive in about a week in a box and will be ready to sleep on in a matter of hours.

The Layla mattress can be purchased directly from the Layla Sleep website, which is the company’s official online store. Additionally, the Layla mattress is also available for purchase from several third-party retailers, both online and in brick-and-mortar stores.

Some of the online retailers that carry the Layla mattress include Amazon, Wayfair, and Overstock. In addition, the Layla mattress is also available for purchase from select physical retailers, such as Mattress Firm and Macy’s.

It’s worth noting that while the Layla mattress is widely available from a variety of retailers, prices and promotions may vary depending on the seller. To ensure that you’re getting the best deal on a Layla mattress, it’s a good idea to compare prices and promotions across multiple retailers before making a purchase.

To get a sense of how each of the layers reacts and recovers below is a video of me squishing the mattress:

My Layla Mattress Findings

Since this mattress has a firm and soft side I tested both to show you that while they do have a different feel it’s not a dramatic difference.

Here’s a video showing motion transfer and bounce on the soft side of the mattress. The Layla mattress has some decent bounce for an all foam mattress.

It’s hard to tell there is much of a difference but you will notice a difference when you lay on the mattress. Aside from the firm side having less of the comfort foam, the convoluted layer is also upside down so you have a solid piece of foam underneath the comfort foam which makes for a firmer feel as well.

Here’s a look at how much my 14lb. bowling ball sinks on the soft side of the mattress.

Here’s another view with the cover off.

It’s easy to tell which is the firm and soft side as they are labeled but they are also different colors.

firm side of laylaFinally, I put the copper-infused foam to the test to see how well it dissipates heat using my infrared camera. As a control, I put my and on the mattress for 10 seconds then record how quickly the temperature drops. I notice the most rapid decline in the first 15-20 seconds. Compared to the other all foam mattresses I have tested, the Layla performed better than most. I have no idea if that was from the copper, the convoluted layer or both but something is working.

My Layla Mattress Recommendation

I found the Layla mattress to be slightly on the softer end of the spectrum. It’s about the same level of firmness as the Leesa mattress but you get all the benefits of copper. There are claims that copper also aids in circulation and recovery. What I noticed was that it seems to keep me cool. But aside from this feature, it’s a well-built mattress. The fact that you can flip it and go slightly firmer is a great feature.

Layla Foam Mattress  vs. Layla Hybrid Mattress

The Layla Original and Layla Hybrid are two different models of mattresses offered by Layla Sleep. Here are some key differences between the two:

  1. Construction: The Layla Original is a flippable mattress, with a soft side and a firm side. The soft side is made of copper-infused memory foam, while the firm side is made of high-density foam. The Layla Hybrid, on the other hand, features a layer of individually wrapped coils in addition to the copper-infused memory foam.
  2. Support and Firmness: The Layla Original is known for its pressure relief and contouring, and its two firmness options (soft and firm) provide sleepers with flexibility in terms of support. The Layla Hybrid, with its coil layer, provides a bit more support and a slightly firmer feel than the Original.
  3. Motion Transfer: Both mattresses are designed to minimize motion transfer, which can be beneficial for couples who share a bed.
  4. Price: The Layla Hybrid is more expensive than the Layla Original due to its additional coil layer.

The Layla Original may be a better choice for those who prefer a flippable mattress and want more flexibility in terms of firmness. The Layla Hybrid, with its added coil layer, may be a better choice for those who want a slightly firmer feel and more support.

  1. Sleeping Position: The Layla Original is a flippable mattress with two firmness options, which makes it a good choice for a variety of sleeping positions. The soft side of the mattress is ideal for side sleepers who need pressure relief in their hips and shoulders, while the firm side is better for back and stomach sleepers who need more support.

The Layla Hybrid, on the other hand, is better suited for back and stomach sleepers who need more support due to the added coil layer. However, the copper-infused memory foam layer can still provide some pressure relief for side sleepers.

  1. Weight: The Layla Original is made of memory foam, which is known for its ability to contour to the body and provide pressure relief. However, it may not be as supportive for heavier sleepers, particularly those who sleep on their stomachs.

The Layla Hybrid, with its coil layer, can provide more support for heavier sleepers, particularly those who sleep on their stomachs. However, it may not provide as much pressure relief for lighter sleepers.

In general, the Layla Original may be a better choice for lighter sleepers who need more pressure relief, while the Layla Hybrid may be a better choice for heavier sleepers who need more support. Ultimately, the choice between the two will depend on individual sleep preferences and needs.

Is the Layla Mattress Good for Back Pain?

Both the Layla Original and Layla Hybrid mattresses can be good options for those experiencing back pain, as they are designed to provide pressure relief and support.

The soft side of the Layla Original, in particular, is known for its ability to contour to the body and relieve pressure points, which can be helpful for those with back pain. The copper-infused memory foam also has antimicrobial properties, which can help keep the mattress fresh and clean.

The Layla Hybrid, with its added coil layer, can provide more support for those with back pain, particularly for back and stomach sleepers who need more support. The copper-infused memory foam layer can still provide some pressure relief for side sleepers who may also experience back pain.

It’s worth noting that the choice between the two mattresses will ultimately depend on individual preferences and needs. Those who prefer a flippable mattress and want more flexibility in terms of firmness may prefer the Layla Original, while those who want a slightly firmer feel and more support may prefer the Layla Hybrid.

Is Layla Good for Side Sleepers?

Yes, the Layla mattress is a good option for side sleepers. The mattress is designed to provide pressure relief and contouring, which can be particularly beneficial for side sleepers who may experience pressure points in their hips and shoulders.

The soft side of the Layla mattress is made of copper-infused memory foam, which has a plush, comfortable feel and conforms to the body for optimal pressure relief. The foam also helps to dissipate heat, which can be helpful for those who tend to sleep hot.

Additionally, the copper-infused memory foam layer is zoned to provide extra support where it’s needed most, such as in the lumbar region, which can help promote proper spinal alignment and reduce the risk of back pain.

Overall, the Layla mattress can be a good choice for side sleepers who are looking for a comfortable, supportive sleep surface that can help relieve pressure points and promote proper spinal alignment.

Can You Flip the Layla and Layla Hybrid?

The Layla Original mattress is designed to be flippable, with a soft side and a firm side, and can be flipped to adjust the firmness level. The soft side of the Layla Original is made of copper-infused memory foam and has a plush, comfortable feel, while the firm side is made of high-density foam and provides a more supportive surface.

On the other hand, the Layla Hybrid mattress is not designed to be flippable. The mattress is constructed with a layer of individually wrapped coils at the bottom, followed by a layer of base support foam, and then a layer of copper-infused memory foam on top. While the copper-infused memory foam layer can be rotated to prolong its lifespan, flipping the mattress over would result in the coils being on top, which would not provide a comfortable sleep surface.

It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for flipping and rotating your mattress to ensure that it maintains its shape and provides the best possible sleep experience. In the case of the Layla Original, flipping the mattress is a feature that is designed to extend its lifespan and provide flexibility in terms of firmness, while with the Layla Hybrid, rotating the copper-infused memory foam layer periodically is recommended to prevent uneven wear.

Other Layla Mattresses

Layla Sleep also makes a hybrid mattress called the Layla Hybrid. The Layla Hybrid combines both memory foam and individually wrapped coils to provide a balance of comfort, support, and pressure relief. The mattress has a unique flippable design, offering two firmness options in one mattress: a soft side and a firm side. This allows sleepers to choose the level of support that best suits their preference and sleeping position.

Is Layla Good for Hot Sleepers?

Yes, the Layla mattress is good for hot sleepers. The Layla mattress is designed with a copper-infused memory foam layer that helps to dissipate heat and keep you cool throughout the night. The copper also has antimicrobial properties that help keep your mattress clean and fresh.

Additionally, the Layla mattress has a breathable cover made from a soft polyester blend that allows air to circulate freely, which helps to further regulate temperature and prevent overheating.

Overall, the Layla mattress is a great option for hot sleepers who want a comfortable and supportive mattress that won’t leave them feeling hot and sweaty during the night.

What is the Firmness Level of Layla Mattress?

The Layla mattress has a dual firmness level, meaning it has two different firmness options in one mattress. One side of the mattress is firm, while the other side is soft. The firm side is rated at around a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, while the soft side is rated at around a 4 out of 10. This dual firmness design allows you to choose the firmness level that works best for you, whether you prefer a firmer or softer mattress.

Layla vs. Saatva

Layla and Saatva are both popular mattress brands, but they differ in their construction, firmness level, and pricing.

The Layla mattress is a memory foam mattress that features a copper-infused layer to help with cooling and has a dual firmness design. It is a more affordable option compared to Saatva, with prices starting at $749 for a queen size mattress.

On the other hand, Saatva offers several different mattress models, including innerspring, hybrid, and latex mattresses. They are generally known for their durability and quality construction. Saatva offers more firmness options, ranging from plush soft to firm, and they also have a variety of mattress sizes and heights to choose from. However, Saatva mattresses are more expensive, with prices starting at $1,099 for a queen size mattress.

Overall, both brands have their pros and cons, so it really depends on your personal preferences and budget. If you are looking for a more affordable memory foam mattress with cooling properties, Layla may be a good option for you. If you are looking for a high-quality, durable mattress with more firmness options, Saatva may be a better choice, but it comes with a higher price tag.

Layla vs. Winkbeds

Layla and WinkBeds are two popular mattress brands that offer different features and benefits.

The Layla mattress is a memory foam mattress that features a copper-infused layer to help with cooling and has a dual firmness design. It is a more affordable option compared to WinkBeds, with prices starting at $749 for a queen size mattress.

WinkBeds, on the other hand, offers several different mattress models, including hybrid and all-foam options. They are known for their high-quality materials and excellent support. WinkBeds offers multiple firmness options, including softer and firmer models, and they also have a variety of mattress sizes and heights to choose from. However, WinkBeds mattresses are generally more expensive than Layla, with prices starting at $1,049 for a queen size mattress.

Both brands offer sleep trials and warranties, but WinkBeds has a longer warranty period compared to Layla. WinkBeds also offers a longer sleep trial period, allowing you to test out the mattress for up to 120 nights before deciding whether to keep it or return it.

Overall, both Layla and WinkBeds offer quality mattresses with different features and benefits, so it really depends on your personal preferences and budget. If you are looking for a more affordable memory foam mattress with cooling properties and dual firmness options, Layla may be a good option for you. If you are looking for a high-quality, durable mattress with multiple firmness options and a longer sleep trial and warranty period, WinkBeds may be a better choice, but it comes with a higher price tag.

  1. I bought this mattress and did not like it. The soft side was not really that soft. We flipped it which is really difficult with a king and zipping the cover is really hard to do. The firm side is just too firm and now I wake up with sore knees and hips every morning. I have to get rid of this mattress but I have to decide what to get first.

  2. Really? I had the exact opposite experience. I thought the soft side was really nice and soft. We flipped the mattress to try the firm side and found it to be pretty easy to do. My wife and I sleep on the firm side now and honestly it’s the best sleep either of us have ever had.

  4. My husband and I decided to buy the Layla after trying it out at the Yawnder showroom in Edina. I went in pretty set on the Luxi due to the ability to change the firmness while my husband was really interested in the Purple. After trying every single mattress in the showroom, we both decided on the Layla. It felt really soft and cool to the touch and my husband kept saying that his back felt good when laying on it. He almost gave a sigh of relief every time we laid down on it (I insisted on comparing it to the Nectar and Luxi). It pretty much blew my mind that I walked out decided on a totally different mattress that wasn’t even my top pick! Thank you so much Ben for the showroom!!! It really gives me peace of mind that we’ll get this whole online mattress thing right the first time around and not have to try several and end up returning them. I’ll have to post my feedback once we receive the Layla and get some time to sleep on it.

    • If you want a firmer matress, buy the Tuft & Needle matress. They have excellent customer service and their bed is definitely more firm than the firm side of the Layla matress. I had to return my Tuft & Needle matress because it was too firm. We were looking for a softer matress and we love our Layla.

  6. i have the Layla mattress and like it now. I had a bad first night with it as I felt it was too firm. I kept sleeping on it and now less than a week later it has loosened up so that I get a nice restful sleep. Give it some time to loosen up. crawl or walk on it helps to loosen it up too.I have an adjustable bed platform and it works out great. I had a Latex mattress which I moved into the guest room. I never got a good nights sleep on it. I had to use a topper. it was just too firm for me.

  8. My wife and I purchased the Layla. We previously had a regular Tempurpedic that we both liked a lot but switching from a queen to a king wanted to give a different foam mattress a try. The soft side of the Layla is very soft so we switched it to the firm side as we are both side and stomach sleepers. Even the firm side feels pretty soft. I like the Layla well enough but my wife isn’t inclined to keep it past the trial period. The Layla does not have a lot of edge support and I think you might notice that more on a smaller mattress. Yawnder or other Sherpaholics, any advice on a foam mattress that is firm enough for stomach sleeping, forgiving enough for side sleeping, and has better edge support?

  9. We love our LAYLA. We bought it about 8 weeks ago. We went from a California Queen Sleep Number to a Cali-King Layla. I think I’d prefer the softer side nut the wife wanted the firm side. I think the only issue we’ve had is getting used to more ‘real estate’ than the old Queen. We sleep deeper, longer, and less aches than the old SN4000. Layla is the only mattress with Copper power and all it’s benefits. We looked at the Puffy, Tempurpedic and a Serta blue400. Layla offered financing and gave us a decision in 4 minutes. Layla won the day. Give it a try……

  10. Initially the Layla was wonderful we really enjoyed it, but after about six months of sleeping on it both my husband and I have achy backs. This was never an issue prior to the new mattress. We switched it out with our guest bedroom mattress to see how that went and our back aches went away. Needless to say it’s just was too soft for us after initially being wonderful. We are now searching for a solution to not having to buy a new mattress like a firm mattresst topper but those are hard to find.

  11. Best mattress we have owned. We have had our Kayla for around 6 months now. Tried the firm then the soft. I can sleep well on either, my wife prefers the soft, so soft it is. We received the two free pillows and the are just as amazing as the mattress. I have sleep apnea and rarely if ever did I ever dream(a sure sign of ten sleep). Now we both dream almost every single night, and I feel refreshed in the morning. The off gassing lasts for around a week, but it isn’t that bad. We have the queen and flipping it or rotating it isn’t bad at all unless your 80 or older or have no second person to help you. The sleep trial is as good as even the most expensive mattresses, and the return policy is the best I’ve ever seen, as a local charity will pick it up for you and all Kayla needs is the receipt. We have spent a ton more on other mattresses, and the only one comparable was the Posturpedic we had. It was the same mattress we slept on at the Ritz Carlton. It was comfortable for about 2 years before we started to see a decline. So far, no decline with this mattress. Sleeps pretty cool for a foam mattress, especially with a good set of sheets. Motion transfer is superb. For the money coupled with the return policy, you can’t go wrong giving it a try.
