The Halo SleepSack is a safe way for your baby to stay warm and cozy in the crib!

A Halo Sleep Sack is a wearable blanket for your baby that zips up the front.  It is a great thing to use when your baby is frustrated by or escaping from a swaddle. The American Academy of Pediatrics publishes specific guidelines about safe sleep for babies and the Halo SleepSack seems to match up with what is recommended.  You are not supposed to have those cute crib bumpers or even blankets in the bed with a baby due to an increased SIDS risk, so wearing a specially designed blanket is the safest option, it seems!   The SleepSack even has a sewn-on reminder that “Back is Best” near the baby’s shoulder so you don’t forget to always lay your little one down on their back.

I knew about SleepSacks even before I became a mom, and I knew I wanted to have a few on hand when my baby was born.  I included different sizes and materials of this product on my baby registry.  Halo offers fleece SleepSacks for the winter ($17.99 on Amazon), cotton ones for the fall and spring ($13.98 on Amazon), and lightweight cotton muslin for summer ($22.48 on Amazon).  I especially love the microfleece because it is so warm and cozy!  When comparing the prices and quality of different baby sleep products, this one seems to have the best value of what I have seen so far.  Note: All prices above are for Prime 2-day shipping on Amazon.  I am not being paid by Amazon or Halo.  I’m just a happy customer!

The SleepSack features a reverse zipper!

Looking more closely at the product, the Halo SleepSack is a sleeveless blanket that is squared off at the bottom, leaving room for your little one to kick around inside of it when it’s zipped up.  The zipper goes from the top down, which makes it easy to pop the baby’s legs out for a quick diaper change without having to fumble with rezipping all the way in the middle of the night.  A few times, I have done a lousy job of zipping this up and the zipper malfunctioned.  A little bit of patient fiddling around fixed this for me, so if you have a zipper problem, don’t despair and try to fix it!

Lucas is wearing a size medium here which fits babies who are between 16 and 24 pounds.  That is a huge range, especially because the growth curve for babies slows down around six months, making this product even more of a bang for your buck!

Another thing I like about this product is that there are a ton of designs to choose from including pink butterfly ombre, green geckos, yellow waves, and on and on.  I was very happy with the gender neutral patterns that I picked out.   I even have a SleepSack in the next size up ready to go!  Also, it washes very well and there are no special drying instructions!  Score!

I like this product so much, I already have the next size ready to go!

I do have the lightweight cotton muslin SleepSack as well, but I didn’t get much use out of it for my son.  I thought the fabric was too light to warm him up at all, and since he was a summer baby who was still being swaddled, it just didn’t work for him.

That being said, I think the microfleece Halo SleepSack is a great value at only $17.99 on Amazon and is well worth your money.  It makes a great gift, since it will be worn every night for months!  I hope you like it as much as I do!

Here’s Lucas showing off the Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit!

We call it the Muffin Man suit since your little one will look quite puffy in it!  We were very happy to get this from my sister who used it for her little one!  Even second hand, Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit was in great condition, and has held up remarkably well through many washes.  It does say to tumble dry it on low, but I never did that (cottons= high heat in my mind!) and it is no worse for the wear.  The color shown in the picture above is cream.  The sleepsuit is also available in yellow, pink, and blue.  This sleepsuit is very popular on mom blogs, since we are all in search of a magical answer to help our little ones go to sleep!  The idea is that the suit is thin padding for the baby and is supposed to calm their startle reflex.  Check out the specific product description for the sleepsuit on Amazon.

I like that there are high-quality zippers on this product.  I never had an issue with the zippers getting stuck, so that is a huge plus!  I do wish the Merlin had a little flap to cover the zipper up like the Zipadee-Zip has so that the zipper won’t poke the baby, but honestly it was never an issue.  I also like that the baby’s feet can poke out the bottom, which allows for better temperature regulation according to the product description.  The reason I appreciate the open-footed design is that it allows for this product to be used for longer!  Many of Lucas’ footie PJ’s had to be put away a long time ago since he is tall.  Baby clothes that don’t have sewn-in feet allow for many more months of use!  I found it easy to get Lucas in and out of this, even in for nighttime diaper changes.

Below is a video overview of the Merlin Magic Sleepsuit

This product is recommended until your baby can roll over, so it is great to try after your little one is escaping from a swaddle.  Lucas is 18 pounds, and the small is intended for babies who are 12-18 lbs.  He still fits in it, though it is a little short for him now!

Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit is for sale on Amazon (three cheers for Amazon Mom & free shipping!) for $39.95.  I think the price is a bit high, but it definitely is made of high-quality cotton that holds up well over time.  One drawback is that it takes a long time to dry since it is decently thick (and that was on high heat in the dryer!).  This product was just okay for Lucas;  he woke up just as often when wearing it.  That being said, obviously all babies are different and none of us will have any idea how our little ones will do in a given product until trying it!   I hope it works for you!

Note:  I am not being paid by the Merlin people!  All opinions are my own.

Not so sure it’s magical, but I do think it is a quality product!
