Here’s a video of the quilted cover. This is what really sets it apart. It is a dense foam layer quilted into the covering. Quilting foam into the costs more from a manufacturing standpoint but it is well worth it. I haven’t felt anything quite like this before.
Below is a video illustrating heat retention so you can see how it will trap body heat. I was surprised at the result. Given it has a gel memory foam quilted into the cover, I expected much more heat retention. The reason it performed so well is that the cover is made with a Tencel fiber that is much more breathable than cotton. Added to that is a phase change material that draws heat away. Other ultra-dense foam mattresses I have tested don’t come close in terms of drawing away heat.

There have been several lawsuits filed against Nectar Sleep, a popular online mattress company, in recent years.

My Nectar Mattress Final Thoughts and Recommendation
For the money, this is one of the best dense foam mattresses I have reviewed. It is made in China but I didn’t notice any major off-gassing. It is also Certipur Certified so the foams used in the construction are tested to be free of any harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde. This is extremely comfortable and I love how it conforms so well to your body. It’s a feel that is unique to foam mattresses.
A big complaint of dense foam mattresses is that they sleep hot. That’s because memory foam is an insulator and the denser the foam the more it will insulate. By incorporating a phase change material into the mattress ticking and quilting cooling gel foam into the top layer,
I am very impressed with the construction of the Nectar Premeir and Nectar Copper Premier the are some of the best memory foam mattresses you can buy. Both have cooling covers with a zippered top that can be removed and spot cleaned if they get dirty. However, when you purchase any Nectar mattress, you also get the Nectar bedding bundle which includes two Nectar Pillows, a mattress protector and a set of sheets so you have everything you need for a great sleep right away.
One of the biggest complaints is when they launched was problems with backorders. I don’t think they quite anticipated how much demand there would be and therefore had a hard time keeping up. The company has now caught up on their backorders and you can expect to receive your package in about 10 days after placing your order.

The Sleep Number C2 Mattress is the most popular of the Sleep Number offerings. It is also the most affordable with a queen size coming in at about $1,200 after delivery. What makes Sleep Number unique among other mattresses is that it has a dual air chamber below the comfort layer of foam that can be adjusted for firmness by letting air in or out of the mattress. All of this is controlled by a quiet pump that is connected to each side so that one side can be firm and the other soft.
Overview of the Sleep Number C2 Mattress
Here’s a quick video overview of the mattress and my experience so far. This is a more complicated mattress than the typical 3 layer foam mattresses I have reviewed so I definitely want to take more time with it to make sure I cover everything.
Ordering Your Select Comfort C2 Mattress
You can order this mattress direct from their website. I opted to purchase the standalone remote which is an extra and the integrated base to ensure that the mattress was on a solid surface to ensure I get the full experience. In the picture above it is on a slatted bed. normally I would put this on a metal bed frame made for a box spring.
After placing my order I received an email to download their App to track my sleep and adjust the bed.
My mattress took about a couple weeks to arrive. You will receive a call to schedule a delivery day and then get a call the morning of delivery with a time window. On delivery day a branded truck arrived. I really like that this company has their own delivery staff and recognizable truck.
The delivery staff also called when they were about 15 minutes away so I could prepare for their arrival. I can’t speak highly enough of the delivery staff who were super friendly, knowledgeable about the product and helpful.
My mattress arrived in two boxes. The smaller box contains the cover, fire sock and mechanical pieces and the other box is the comfort layer.
The delivery staff will set everything up and even haul away my old mattress if needed, this is all included in the $199 delivery fee. The first step was the integrated base below. This basically comes assembled and I highly recommend it because it keeps all the hoses hidden and ensures that the mattress is on a solid, even surface.

The first step is to put the cover down then put the fire sock which is a fire retardant barrier over that.
After that you put down the comfort layer. This is all done upside down so the top of the mattress is facing downwards this makes it easier to insert the air chambers then flip the mattress after its all put together.
The comfort layer also has foam around the sides so that you don’t feel the air chambers and have a bit better edge support.

After this then the fire sock gets wrapped around the comfort layer.
Finally the cover then goes around the sides and gets ready for the air chamber to go inside.
How Much Does the Sleep Number C2 Cost?

There isn’t a whole lot of information on the construction of this mattress but that’s probably because it isn’t made like a typical mattress.
My Sleep Number C2 Findings
You get a lot of variation with the firmness which is what makes this mattress so attractive to couples. Especially couples that have drastically different preferences. To illustrate how versatile this mattress is I put some bowling balls on the mattress. The left side is at 50 and the right side is at 100.
In the picture below I now put the left side at 5 which is the lowest setting and the right is at 100, the firmest setting.

This mattress is great for isolating motion between you and your partner. The air chamber underneath is separate on each side so that you won’t feel your partner moving around. Below is a video that shows me bouncing a 14 lb. bowling ball on the left side of the mattress.
My Sleep Number C2 Recommendation
Sleep Number is a great choice if you have significantly different firmness preferences than your partner. The C2 is a great introduction to the brand because you get access to all their technology. People looking for a more plush feel should take a look at the other models such as the P5 or P6 which have 5 inches of comfort layers as opposed to the C2 which has 2 inches of the comfort layer.
This is a relatively expensive mattress but you do get quite a bit of technology though. I also think if you want to make it plusher, you could look at purchasing a memory foam topper on Amazon and add it to the mattress to make it softer. Since the more plush option such as the P6 is $2,599 for a queen size and the only difference I can tell is 3 more inches of foam.
This is still a preliminary review and I will be updating content as I have more time with the mattress.
Doze Mattress Review

The Doze Mattress is another offering in the growing lineup on online mattress companies. Doze uses a simple 2 layer construction with the latest foam and ticking technology to create a mattress that is affordable and comfortable for most sleepers. Coming in at $750 for a queen size, it is a good value and a good bet.
Ordering and Unboxing
You can order the Doze mattress direct from their website and it will arrive in about 5 business days. Unboxing the Doze mattress is a simple process. Most all foam mattresses will feel really soft immediately after unboxing. This is normal and don’t take it as a sign that the mattress will feel that way permanently. An all foam compressed mattress will firm up to its true firmness after a couple days. After unboxing around 90 of these types of mattresses I have found that the longer a mattress has stayed compressed the longer it will take to get into shape. That said, all of them eventually get to their true firmness.
Specifications and Construction
The Doze bed is constructed as follows. It is a relatively simple design. Some 2 layer foam mattresses have poor transition between the layers where you can feel where one ends and the firm layer begins. That wasn’t the case with the Doze. It offers a smooth transition of layers so that the mattress functions as a cohesive unit.

Findings
Below is a video illustrating bounce on the Doze mattress. It is all foam and really doesn’t have much bounce but the top foam layer still recovers quick enough so that there aren’t impressions that you need to dig out of if you change positions at night.
To see how the layers react, I removed the cover of the mattress to show you the inside. There are holes in the top gel layer of this mattress for extra breathability.
The Doze mattress comes with a zippable cover that can be washed in your washing machine just like a bed sheet. This is super handy especially if your mattress gets dirty during a move which inevitably happens. I still recommend a mattress protector if you have small children or drink in bed but still nice to know that the cover is always washable too.
Here’s a video illustrating heat retention. I used an infrared camera to show how quickly heat will dissipate after placing my hand on the mattress for about 10 seconds.
Conclusion
I found the Doze mattress to be in the softer end of the spectrum. It is firmer than the Green Tea mattress from Zinus but recover faster than the Green Tea mattress. It truly will be accommodating to all sleep positions but I think it will be best suited towards side and back sleepers.
I would take a look at the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress instead.
Ikrema Mattress Review

The Ikrema mattress is similar to many foam mattresses on the market but one of its most distinguishing factors is the that the price is a bit more competitive. The mattress feels great and has a nice corduroy cover at the base which makes it a little more durable and less prone to tears if you move it frequently. It’s a very nice mattress from a company headquartered out of Glendale, CA.

Findings
After unboxing this mattress I found it to be very soft but after a full day out of the box it began to get firmer. However the mattress is still on the softer end of the spectrum. Below is a video that shows the inside layers and how they react to pressure:
You’ll notice that this is a 3 layer foam mattress where the top layer is denser than the middle layer. This gives you a nice sinking and conforming sensation. However, it will not recover as quickly as a mattress with a top latex layer but will give you better pressure relief. I believe that they are using a 4lb. foam layer for the top.
The cover is made in Belgium using Tencel fibers. This means that it will sleep cool. The cover has elastic so that you get the full benefit of the foam underneath. This cover is also machine washable. Below is a video shot with my Flir camera to illustrate heat dissipation on the mattress.
This mattress has some sink to it mainly because of the middle layer. You will get some good sink as you initially get into bed then the mattress will start to conform as the top layer adapts to your body heat. Below are some pictures to show how much the mattress will sink.
Below are some videos that show how much bounce and motion transfer you can expect with this mattress. Hint, not much!
Conclusion
The Ikrema is a great mattress for people looking for hug and pressure relief. It doesn’t have quite as much support as some of the other foam mattresses which doesn’t make it ideal for stomach sleepers. However, I think this would be a great mattress for side sleepers that experience hip and shoulder pain. This mattress has enough cushion to address pressure issues that commonly occur with side sleepers. The online mattress space has become even more crowded in the past few months but I think that is a good thing, consumers are getting more choices and can really hone down to the mattress that is perfect for their needs. I’m sure the Ikrema will be the ideal mattress for quite a few sleepers.

I received a free Cocoon mattress for review from Tempur Sealy. The Cocoon mattress is a mattress in a box made by Sealy. Sealy has been in the mattress industry since 1881 when the founder, from Sealy Texas, began compressing cotton for use in mattresses. The company is now known as Tempur-Sealy making them the largest manufacturer of mattresses in the world.
The Cocoon mattress has been featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things list for 2016. Getting this endorsement from Oprah is a big accomplishment that should garner some recognition for the new brand.
Many of the newer online startups were created as a response to some of the offerings and business models that the traditional brands offered. I was eager to find out if Tempur Sealy would be able to compete with these brands through Cocoon.
Ordering the Cocoon Mattress
You can order a Cocoon mattress in two different levels of firmness through their website. You get free shipping with an estimate on when your mattress should arrive and it comes with a 100 night trial period. They even list 24/7 support which is something I have never seen before. The mattress arrives in a black box which gives it a sophisticated look and you can easily transport it to any room in your house to unbox. Below is a picture of the inside of the box upon opening. You get a fun picture in a frame:
Unboxing the Cocoon Mattress
Below is a video of me unboxing the Cocoon mattress. I noticed this mattress took a little bit longer to come to form than other boxed mattresses. I think this is in part because the top layer of foam is a bit denser than others.
Specifications of the Cocoon by Sealy
The Cocoon comes in 2 levels of firmness, a firm and a soft. According to their website, the cover is made of a stretch-knit fabric with spun poly fibers to make it breathable. They don’t list specific densities of their foams but the soft has 3 layers of foam while the firm has 2 layers.

I was able to compare both the soft and firm versions of this mattress. Which allowed me to do comparisons to help you decide which is best for you.

My Cocoon Mattress Recommendation
What I like best about the Cocoon Chill mattress is the top layer. It is a very soft layer that conforms well and provides great pressure relief. Between the two, I liked the soft version the best. I really like to sink into my mattress and feel like it’s cradling every part of my body which this mattress does. It is cool to the touch and will help you unwind after a stressful day.

2022 Novosbed Update
I was given a queen size, medium firm Novosbed for free to review. Soon after unboxing the Novosbed, I knew it was of superior quality to some mattresses I have tried from online bedding companies. Novosbed is made with premium ultra-dense foams and because of that, you should easily get 15 plus years of good use out of it. Aside from the high quality, this bed feels great and the Comfort+ option gives sleepers piece of mind knowing that they can adjust the firmness of the mattress after purchasing. Novosbed is the first company to launch a product like this that has patented their approach. This mattress was designed with customization in mind; the folks at Novosbed understand that there is no one perfect mattress.

Ordering the Novosbed
You can order the Novosbed directly from their site and choose from 3 different levels of firmness. For this review I chose the medium firm. I was also sent the comfort plus kit which allowed me to make the bed softer. You can also order a kit that will make the bed firmer. You can get this kit for free if you find that the bed isn’t to your liking.
Placing the order is easy, your mattress ships in a box and will arrive in about a week. Novosbed eliminates all risk by offering a trial period of 120 days, which is substantially longer than other mattress companies. Since this mattress has very dense memory foams it may require more of a break in period than lower density rivals. I strongly recommend that anyone buying a Novosbed to give it at least 5 or 6 weeks of sleeping on it to get a true sense of how it feels.
Novosbed ships throughout the United States and Canada. Right now there aren’t that many online mattress companies shipping to Canada so this is a great feature.
Unboxing the Novosbed Mattress
Unboxing the Novosbed was similar to the other compressed mattresses I have reviewed.
My Novosbed Findings
This mattress measures 11 inches deep. Adding the Comfort+ option will give you another 2 inches of depth if needed. This mattress is constructed using ultra-dense foam though the densities differ slightly depending on the level of firmness you choose. All three firmness options have the standard base layer a transitional foam layer and a top foam comfort layer. Unlike some of the other online luxury mattresses, the Novosbed is designed without a pillow top, and offers a washable cover. It also has a thick spandex sub-cover under this removable top-cover to provide additional structure and support. This is a nice touch that adds a luxurious richness to the overall feel of the mattress.

Compare this to the Tempurpedic Clouse Breeze below
The Tempurpedic has two layers of convoluted foam to help with breathability. Below is the video of me squishing the Tempurpedic Cloud Breeze. You’ll see that both Novosbed and Tempurpedic have dense quality foams but the Novosbed is much more affordable and includes the Comfort+ option
You’ll notice that this bed feels more like a traditional high-end memory foam mattress in that it will contour more to your body and will be a little slower to recover than a Leesa mattress. Many others use a layer of latex that allows the mattress to bounce back into shape but the tradeoff is that these mattresses don’t provide as much contouring pressure relief as an all foam mattress. Novosbed uses a design that is much closer to a Tempur-Pedic than any other online mattress company I have reviewed.

Additionally because Novosbed uses a denser foam, there is really no motion transfer. Check out the video below as an illustration.

You will gradually sink into this mattress and find that it will address all your pressure points. You won’t get stuck in it though as you don’t sink too much. Below is the bowling ball on the comfort plus (soft) layer.

I found that adding the soft comfort plus layer gave the mattress more of a pillow top feel. It definitely made the bed softer. I was comfortable on the bed without the soft layer but my wife preferred it.

My Novosbed Recommendation
The Novosbed is a very high-quality mattress that should hold up very well over time. I found that the medium Novosbed felt a little more like a medium-firm mattress. This is consistent with higher-density memory foams, and would likely soften slightly over time. If not, there is always the option of using the Comfort+ kit to adjust the firmness. This mattress will be hard to beat in terms of motion isolation.
I really like this mattress. It is unique in an increasingly crowded online space, and I appreciate how Novosbed has not sacrificed the quality of foam or fabrics to lower their price. It is a little more expensive than some other online mattress brands but when you compare the specs you’ll see why: pound-for-pound and stitch-for-stitch, the Novosbed is the most affordable luxury mattress on the market. You are getting what I consider to be close to Tempur-Pedic quality at a fraction of the price.

I received a free Dromma mattress to review. The Dromma Mattress is a thicker mattress with 2 different comfort options, medium soft or medium firm. I reviewed the medium soft as I haven’t reviewed a truly soft mattress with a top latex layer so I thought this would be something unique to the market.

Construction of the Dromma Mattress

Dromma is a a 12 inch mattress. As of a few months ago the standard was 10 inches so Dromma along with others have upped the standard. This mattress does a wonderful job of temperature regulation for a soft mattress since the top layer is latex with a cooling gel foam beneath it.
Another unique feature of the Dromma bed is that it uses a “bio-foam” which is basically memory foam with a portion of it being a soy-based product instead of petrochemicals. I don’t know the exact amount replaced but the fact that they are trying to move in that direction is promising.

Dromma is one of the best soft mattresses for motion transfer. It is a “Yummy” mattress like the Noomi but since it has a latex top, it will recover faster.
This mattress is definitely on the softer side among all the mattresses I have reviewed. Because of that, you will inevitably lose some support. I recommend this mattress most for side sleepers. You will “sleep in” this mattress instead of “sleep on” it. There’s a good amount of sinkage.
There are so many mattress in a box companies right now that there is bound to be some confusion. To help clarify and guide you to the right mattress, I would say that this is a unique mattress among the foam/latex mattresses on the market. It is softer than the Brentwood Home S-Bed, and Eve Mattress. That’s because the top latex layer is thinner and softer allowing you to get more of the feel of the middle memory foam layer.
My Dromma Bed Recommendation
The Dromma (medium soft) brings a unique feel to the mattress space. Because it is on the softer end of the spectrum it lacks edge support and a bit of base layer support but what you do get is great pressure relief and a great mattress for sinking into. If you like innerspring mattresses with a pillow top, this would be a good choice for making the transition to foam.

Sleep Experience on the Leesa Mattress
My first impression of sleeping on the Leesa Mattress is that is has a really soft top layer. Softer than Tuft&Needle and Yogabed so if you like a softer mattress, this is it! There is a little bit more bounce to the Leesa Bed so make sure you are aware of that. However, that makes it good for other activities. The Leesa Mattress sort of hugs your body which makes it extra cozy but it bounces back into shape quickly so unlike memory foam you don’t find yourself digging out of the bed. The bed is also firm enough so that you don’t feel like you will roll off or disturb your partner.
When sleeping on the Leesa bed you get a sort of floating sensation. It almost feels like you’re weightless because there aren’t any pressure points to wake you up in the middle of the night. The mattress cradles your body and provides the perfect distribution of comfort and support throughout the night. I am a stomach sleeper so I have a very high standard for pressure points.
Unlike a traditional memory foam mattress, you won’t find yourself trying to dig out of an impression if you wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
I also really like the aesthetics of the Leesa Bed. It’s a beautifully soft and silky cover although you won’t be seeing it often underneath sheets and/or mattress protector. The cover is removable with a zipper underneath the mattress that goes all the way around to it’s easy to remove and wash if you like.
With each mattress I get, I do my own bowling ball test. Check out what happens when I toss my 14 lb. bowling ball on the Leesa Mattress. You can see that it has lots of bounce and quickly goes back into shape. You get the best of a spring mattress without the springs and the best of a memory foam mattress without the lasting impressions.

The polyester fabric lycra blend cover feels silky smooth and cool. It is very supple so you really get a feel for the actual mattress. Often mattresses have thick covers that stiffen the overall feel of the mattress.
