I first reviewed the Endy mattress back in 2015. They were one of the first online, direct to consumer mattress brands out of Canada at the time. Since then, other Canadian players have emerged but the Endy mattress has evolved to stay competitive both in price and construction. This mattress is made in Canada and exclusively for sale in Canada.  A queen size Endy currently retails for $850 CA and that’s before any discounts.

Overview of the Endy Mattress

The Endy is only for sale via their website.  Shipping is fast and it will arrive compressed in a box. There’s only one model of this mattress which I think is a positive since there’s less confusion about which one to get and I can tell that they have put a lot of work into perfecting the feel so it accommodates all types of sleepers.

Construction of the Endy Mattress

Endy Mattress Inside

  • The top Endy Comfort Foam layer has unique Open Air Cell Foam. Each air cell acts as an individual shock absorber, contouring the foam to your body by releasing air independently as pressure increases. This technology also reduces motion transfer, meaning you can change sleeping positions throughout the night without waking your partner.
  • The middle foam layer is essential in providing support so you never feel like you are stuck within the softness of the comfort-focused top layer. This meticulously crafted transition layer gives the mattress bounce while providing a gradual transfer of energy, making it ideal for all sleeping positions.
  • Lastly, the high-density bottom layer keeps sleepers properly supported creating a perfectly balanced sleep experience.
  • Endy foam is not like traditional memory foam. While memory foam mattresses sink in the summer and feel firm as a rock in the winter, Endy foam is temperature neutral and maintains a consistent firmness all year long.

My Endy Findings

This mattress will work for any sleep position. I found it to be a true medium feel and it is designed so that if you are a heavier person, you will still get the support you need while a lighter person will still get plenty of pressure relief. This mattress is relatively breathable for a foam mattress. There’s no extra foam or padding stitched into the cover so it’s less likely to surround your body and trap heat.

Endy Bowling Ball

I really liked how easy it was to move around on the Endy. It recovers quickly and because the top layer is made with an open cell foam it conforms quickly too.

Endy Sink

My Endy Recommendation

For the money, the Endy is a great value. If you are new to sleeping on foam, this mattress is your best bet as it won’t feel like a traditional foam mattress that can trap heat and make you feel stuck. Whether you are a back, stomach or side sleeper the Endy is designed to please. You can certainly find mattresses firmer and softer than the Endy but it’s rare that you will find a mattress like this one that should please couples with different firmness preferences.

Features

Next-generation cooling technology, designed specifically for active Canadian lifestyles. The channeled top layer of graphite latex foam works with the cooling gel layer below, acting as a thermal superhighway. Excess heat is transported quickly away from your body towards open-air channels where heat and body moisture can escape.

Sleep better by sleeping longer. Recore’s™ motion isolating comfort layer increases the number of uninterrupted sleep cycles you experience overnight, giving you as much restorative rest as possible. Not only does it reduce motion ripples across the bed surface, it’s also designed to cushion, contour, and relieve pressure around your joints and muscles.

Supporting you and your body at night helps you achieve greater results during the day. Recore’s™ three layers of performance foam are calibrated to a firmness fit for side, back, and stomach sleepers. The support system is designed to provide overall structural integrity, while also encouraging proper spinal alignment by preventing excessive sinkage.

A healthy sleep surface is clean, hypoallergenic, and odourless. Recore’s™ washable top cover contains antimicrobial silver thread to resist and minimize microbial buildup. Beneath the cover, the allergen-free latex delivers the same responsive comfort and durability as natural latex without creating or triggering allergic reactions.

My Recore Mattress Findings

Starting from the top, the stretch knit cover provides for maximum contouring and breathability. It also has a zipper so you can remove and wash it.

zippered coverThe Recore has just the right amount of sink to it so that it’s truly versatile enough for any sleeping postion. It’s also easy to switch positions at night given the top layer of foam is very responsive.

Here’s a look a how much my 14lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress.

recore sinkage

Here’s another view to show you sinkage and how much edge support you can expect.

recore edge support

This mattress has a zippered cover which is common for roll packed mattresses but it is positioned so that you don’t have to lift up the mattress to access it. This makes it much easier to remove and wash if you need to. Although, I strongly recommend a mattress protector.

zippered cover

In the video below I show you how much motion transfer to expect on the mattress. As you can see the other bowling ball hardly moves but the one that I dropped actually has some bounce which is rare for a foam mattress.

When you unzip the cover you will see that the top layer of foam has some holes in it which provides more breathability and air flow.

Here’s a closer look without the fire sock on

recore first layer

Here’s a side view of the layering. The middle layer is the cooling gel layer followed by the base support foam.

layers

Here’s a video showing how each layer reacts. The graphite latex top layer is the most responsive and the layer of cooling gel foam below it provides great pressure relief. The base layer is standard and provides a stable surface.

My Recore Bed Recommendation

The Recore mattress is a perfect choice for someone new to memory foam. You get all the pressure relieving benefits of foam but without the drawbacks of sleeping hot. Without springs you don’t have to worry about motion transfer either. With this mattress, there’s really no reason you would need or want springs.

I highly recommend this mattress to couples that have different sleep positions and have problems with partner disturbance at night. The Recore will certainly solve that problem. If it’s been a while since you have been in the market for a new mattress, you will be pleasantly suprised at how far foam technology has come and you get it all in the Recore.

The Douglas mattress is a true Canadian mattress. It is made with materials all sourced from Canada, was designed by Canadians and can only be bought in Canada. This is a memory foam mattress that uses more eco-friendly foams than the competition which makes it a more responsible choice at a great price point.  Currently a queen size Douglas retails for $799 Canadian which makes it a fantastic value.

Overview of the Douglas Mattress

This mattress comes roll packed and shipped in a box to your doorstep. It takes about a week after placing your order for the mattress to arrive. Opening the mattress is as easy as removing the plastic packaging and letting the mattress expand to its full shape. It should be ready to sleep on in about 4-5 hours.

This mattress comes with a 120 night trial which means you can have it for about 4 months and if not happy, return it for a full refund. You don’t have to pay return shipping either. Douglas will work with you to make the return process easy and painless. If you want to keep your Douglas, you are backed by a 15 year warranty. Most online mattress company warranties are 1o years.

Here’s a quick video overview of the mattress.

How is the Douglas Mattress Made?

Douglas mattress layers

According to their website, Doulgas mattresses are made with Canadian-built foams and fabrics. The top 2” comfort layer is made of ecoLight™ cooling gel foam, developed to be 50% less taxing on our environment but just as durable as high density memory foam. The middle 2” layer is made of Elastex™ foam to give the mattress just the right amount of bounce. The bottom 6” support foam isolates movement and provides better edge support. The washable cover is made from an eco-friendly Natural Eucalyptus Fabric™.

My Douglas Mattress Findings

When you first lay down on this mattress you will notice that it immediately contours to your spine. This gives the mattress a soft feeling. You are then supported by the middle and base layer at the bottom.

Here’s a photo of my 14 lb. bowling ball to illustrate the point.

This is an all foam mattress so motion transfer is contained. In comparison to the hundreds of other mattresses I have reviewed the top layer recovers quickly for being a foam mattress making it easier to switch positions at night. You won’t get that stuck feeling that dense foam mattresses known for.

Here’s a vidoe showing how each layer of the mattress reacts.

My Douglas Mattress Recommendations

Overall I would rate this mattress on the softer end of the spectrum. I really like how the top layer feels. It is soft but recovers really quickly given how well it contours. This is what really makes the Douglas stand out from the other competition among the Canadian offerings. I think side sleepers will love this mattress because it really addresses pressure relief for your hips but especially your shoulders. Because the top layer of foam recovers fast, you don’t have to wait to get your, “spot” back when shifting positions or getting out of bed then coming back.

I recommend the Douglas to side back and occasional stomach sleepers that want quick contouring and a softer feel without sacrificing support or pressure relief. This mattress also sleeps on the cooler end of the spectrum for a memory foam mattress.

The Polysleep mattress is a memory foam mattress made in Canada. I was recently given a free queen size for review. It is made with a ventilated foam top that is responsive and more breathable than traditional foam. Another highlight of this mattress is that it comes with a liquid repellant cover. This will reduce the need for a mattress protector as spills will bead up on the mattress giving you time to clean up before liquids penetrate the mattress.

You can now buy the Polysleep Mattress in the USA

Overview of the Polysleep Mattress

The Polysleep mattress comes roll packed in a box and will be delivered to your door in about a week. It is made in Canada and is now available in the USA and Canada. It comes with a 100-night trial where if you aren’t happy with it, you will get a full refund.

Here’s a picture of the box that my queen size mattress arrived in.

Polysleep mattress box

Polysleep gives you a really nice tool to cut open the plastic packaging. Once you do this the mattress expands to shape and is ready to sleep on within a few hours. I recommend letting the mattress breathe for at least 2-3 hours before adding sheets and bedding. There will be some off-gassing with this mattress since it is an all foam mattress but it wasn’t that bad and for the most part, dissipated after 3 days with most of the smell going away after about 3-4 hours.

Below is a video overview of the Polysleep mattress.  In the video, you can get a sense of how the mattress reacts.

Construction of the Polysleep Mattress

Here are the construction details of the mattress as listed on their website. I appreciate how transparent this company is with their construction details. It really helps you make apples to apple comparisons among other mattresses.

Liquid – Repellent Cover

The cover gives you a delicate, soft feel to lie on. It is also liquid-repellent to avoid any accidents. The sides are made of mesh, which allows the mattress to be more breathable.

Ventilated Viscoelastic Hybrid Foam – 3.0 lbs / ft3

The top layer is anti-microbial. It allows air to circulate, keeping you cool while adapting to your body. It identifies the pressure points, reduces the temperature and the firmness of these points in seconds only. It prevents any moisture from accumulating.

Support Layer – 1.8 lbs / ft3

The support layer serves as a transition between the top layer and the base. It is designed for your comfort and provides full body support to ensure a better sleep.

Supportive Foam Base – 1.8 lbs / ft3

The first layer, or base, of the ultimate mattress, is built with high-density foam and acts as a box spring, while providing unparalleled reinforcement. It adds durability, strength and comfort without feeling too firm.

Proprietary Support Frame – 2.0 lbs / ft3

The proprietary support frame makes this mattress truly unique. This keeps the mattress from flattening out when you sit along any of the edges and helps to reinforce the structure.

Here’s a picture of the inside of the Polysleep it’s hard to see the transition layer since it is a white hue like the other layers but it is there.

My Polysleep Findings

Below is a photo that shows how much the Polysleep mattress sinks. I used a 14lb. bowling ball in this picture. What you will find is that the mattress sinks quickly and recovers quickly this is due to the properties of the top layer. It was designed to be easy to move around on.

Polysleep Mattress sinkage

Here’s another video that helps illustrate this point and shows how each layer reacts.

There isn’t too much motion transfer with this mattress since it is all foam. What I did notice is that the ball did bounce back a little as opposed to just sinking in which will happen with a denser foam mattress.

How Firm is the Polysleep Mattress?

Among the memory foam mattresses I have reviewed I found the Polysleep to be a medium firmness. You will sink in slightly but not a lot. This means it’s easy to move around on and there is less “hug” to this mattress. It won’t envelop you like a more plush mattress would which means less of the mattress around you to trap heat.

My Polysleep Recommendation

There are hundreds of options now for memory foam mattresses in a box. What sets the Polysleep apart is that they have added some new technology to the mattress. The liquid resistant cover really works and if you drink coffee in bed or are prone to spills, this mattress is a great choice where you don’t have to use a mattress protector. A mattress protector will ultimately take away from the feel of a mattress by reducing its elasticity. It’s safe to say that a protector is optional with this mattress.

Polysleep also incorporates the latest foam technology in their mattress. Although it doesn’t conform as well as a denser foam mattress, it provides excellent pressure relief and quick recovery. The top layer is also breathable in that the channeled foam and mesh side panels help draw heat out of the mattress. This, in my opinion, is a better option than gel foam which only provides a temporary cooling effect.

If you are looking for a reactive foam mattress that sleeps relatively cool, has antimicrobial properties and a spill-resistant cover this is the mattress for you.

Silk and Snow Mattress Review

Editor’s Note: This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you make a purchase using these links. For full details visit the disclosures page.

The Silk and Snow mattress is a memory foam mattress made in Canada. Think of it as the John Snow of mattresses, it’s the King of the North. Like John Snow, of Game of Thones, it is strong and supportive but soft on the inside which is great for pressure relief. And like royaly it comes with a precious metal, silver. There is silver in the fibers of the cover which give it antimicrobial properties keeping the Silk and Snow mattress clean and fresh as the northern air.

Ordering the Silk and Snow

You can order a Silk and Snow direct from their website. Since it is a Canadian mattress company, it ships both to the US and Canada for free. After you place your order it should arrive in a box in about a week. Here’s a picture of the box it arrives in.

Silk and Snow Mattress Review

A queen size retails for $850 but it is currently selling for $100 off at $750. This puts it in a competitive position pricewise. You also get a 100 day free trial so if you aren’t happy with this mattress returns are free.  Below is a video overview of the mattress.

Construction of the Silk and Snow Mattresss

Below are the construction specifications as listed on the Silk and Snow website.

  • 2″ Ultra-Dense Supportive Memory Foam
  • 2″ Ultra-Dense Responsive Memory Foam
  • 6″ Premium Support Foam
  • Polyester/Spandex/Silver Infused Zipper Cover

Here’s a picture of the layers of the Silk and Snow

Silk and Snow Layers
ULTRA-SOFT PREMIUM COVER MADE BY SCIENCE
A top cover made from one of the world’s smartest natural materials. We used an innovative antimicrobial textile, powered by pure silver to help permanently prevent the growth of unwanted bacteria. Our silver technology is woven into the fibers, allowing the fabric to feel soft and luxurious.
EASY TO REMOVE TOP COVER
Keeping your mattress clean doesn’t have to be a chore. Our mattress cover easily zips off, but only when you want it to.
LAYER 1 – OPTIMAL TEMPERATURE, ALWAYS
This layer provides a cooler, more consistent sleep surface every single night. 13x better than conventional memory foam, 16x better than latex.
LAYER 2 – NO MORE MARSHMALLOW SQUISH
This transition layer provides the spring and bounce you’d find in latex or coil bed. Unparalleled support, pressure relief and motion isolation that foam beds are famous for.
LAYER 3 – ALL ABOUT THAT BASE
This premium support layer is the foundation to it all. Strength, support and structure of the mattress starts here.

My Silk and Snow Findings

This is a great mattress for people that are looking for the pressure relief that a dense foam mattress can offer and the responsiveness of newer generation foams. Overall its a solid mattres that should appeal to most people, especially those that want a mattress with an initial soft feel but still very supportive.
Here’s a picture of how far the mattress sinks with the 16lb. Sleep Sherpa bowling ball. This mattress has some good sinkage and gives you good cradling. Not all foam mattresses do this as quickly as this one. you also get good recovery without as much push back.

Silk and Snow Sinkage

Here’s another video illustrating motion transfer. As you can see there is very little motion transfer on this mattress however there is some bounce as well which is illustrative of good recovery.

Let’s take a look under the hood. Underneath the innovative antimicrobial cover you will find the layers of the Silk and Snow. Here’s a video showing how each layer reacts. The top layer is the slowest to recover while the middle layer is the most responsive so that you get the bounce back while the top layer starts its recovery.

This mattress is fairly temperature neutral. Not too hot and not too cold. You definitely don’t have the major heat retention issues like the old memory foam mattresses.  Below is a video shot with my infrared camera that shows how quickly heat dissipates from the mattress.

Aside from feel, the best part of this mattress is the cover. Having silver infused into the cover prevents bacteria from growing. Assuming you aren’t prone to spilling in bed, you can then use this mattress without a mattress protector which gives you a truer feel of the mattress. Mattress protectors no matter how think will dampen the feel of a mattress to some extent. You can also wash the cover by unzipping the top as seen in the picture below.

Silk and Snow Cover

According to the site, “Our silver is infused into the fibers and the technology has been tested by the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) for effectiveness even after 100 washes.” That means if you were to wash it every month it should get over 8 years of use out of it before the effectiveness of the cover dissipates.

My Silk and Snow Recommendation

Having slept on hundreds of mattresses now, I am confident that most people will find Silk and Snow to be of the most comfortable mattresses they have slept on. With the innovative cover it will be one of the cleanest mattresses as well. Silk and Snow is the perfect name for this mattress as it is as the cover stays as fresh as the driven snow and is as smooth as silk. The mattresses is as tempting to dive into as a freshly fallen snow.

Novosbed Review: Tops for Quality and Comfort!

Editor’s Note: This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a commission if you make a purchase using these links. For full details visit the disclosures page.

I was given a queen size, medium firm Novosbed for free to review. Soon after unboxing the Novosbed, I knew it was of a superior quality than some mattresses I have tried from online bedding companies. Novosbed is made with premium ultra-dense foams and because of that, you should easily get 15 plus years of good use out of it. Aside from the high-quality, this bed feels great and the Comfort+ option gives sleepers piece of mind knowing that they can adjust the firmness of the mattress after purchasing.  Novosbed is the first company to launch a product like this that has patented their approach. This mattress was designed with customization in mind; the folks at Novosbed understand that there is no one perfect mattress.

Summary: 9.1/10 –  Shop Novosbed

Ordering the Novosbed

You can order the Novosbed directly from their site and choose from 3 different levels of firmness. For this review I chose the medium firm. I was also sent the comfort plus kit which allowed me to make the bed softer. You can also order a kit that will make the bed firmer. You can get this kit for free if you find that the bed isn’t to your liking.

Placing the order is easy, your mattress ships in a box and will arrive in about a week. Novosbed eliminates all risk by offering a trial period of 120 days, which is substantially longer than other mattress companies. Since this mattress has very dense memory foams it may require more of a break in period than lower density rivals. I strongly recommend that anyone buying a Novosbed to give it at least 5 or 6 weeks of sleeping on it to get a true sense of how it feels.

Novosbed box

Novosbed ships throughout the United States and Canada. Right now there aren’t that many online mattress companies shipping to Canada so this is a great feature.

Unboxing the Novosbed Mattress

Unboxing the Novosbed was similar to the other compressed mattresses I have reviewed.

My Novosbed Findings

This mattress measures 11 inches deep. Adding the Comfort+ option will give you another 2 inches of depth if needed. This mattress is constructed using ultra-dense foam though the densities differ slightly depending on the level of firmness you choose. All three firmness options have the standard base layer a transitional foam layer and a top foam comfort layer. Unlike some of the other online luxury mattresses, the Novosbed is designed without a pillow top, and offers a washable cover. It also has a thick spandex sub-cover under this removable top-cover to provide additional structure and support.  This is a nice touch that adds a luxurious richness to the overall feel of the mattress.

novosbed densities

Here’s what the inside looks like:

novosbed review inside layers

The top has holes which makes it a bit more breathable.

Novosbed Review inside layers
An inside view of the Novosbed showing how the memory foam layers are constructed

Compare this to the Tempurpedic Clouse Breeze below

Tempur cloud breeze review
An inside view of the Tempurpedic Cloud Breeze

The Tempurpedic has two layers of convoluted foam to help with breathability. Below is the video of me squishing the Tempurpedic Cloud Breeze.  You’ll see that both Novosbed and Tempurpedic have dense quality foams but the Novosbed is much more affordable and includes the Comfort+ option

You’ll notice that this bed feels more like a traditional high-end memory foam mattress in that it will contour more to your body and will be a little slower to recover than a  Leesa mattress. Many others use a layer of latex that allows the mattress to bounce back into shape but the tradeoff is that these mattresses don’t provide as much contouring pressure relief as an all foam mattress. Novosbed uses a design that is much closer to a Tempur-Pedic than any other online mattress company I have reviewed.

Here’s how the layers react:

Additionally because Novosbed uses a denser foam, there is really no motion transfer. Check out the video below as an illustration.

Here’s how that translates on the accelerometer:

novosbed motion transfer

You will gradually sink into this mattress and find that it will address all your pressure points. You won’t get stuck in it though as you don’t sink too much. Below is the bowling ball on the comfort plus (soft) layer.

And here’s an illustration of motion transfer with the firm layer:

I found that adding the soft comfort plus layer gave the mattress more of a pillow top feel. It definitely made the bed softer. I was comfortable on the bed without the soft layer but my wife preferred it.

Below is a video of how to install the comfort adjustment layer

Below is a video using my infrared camera to detect heat. This will give you an idea of how well it does with heat retention. I will be publishing more videos like this in subsequent reviews to give readers more context.

My Novosbed Recommendation

The Novosbed is a very high-quality mattress that should hold up very well over time. I found that the medium Novosbed felt a little more like a medium-firm mattress. This is consistent with higher-density memory foams, and would likely soften slightly over time. If not, there is always the option of using the Comfort+ kit to adjust the firmness. This mattress will be hard to beat in terms of motion isolation.

I really like this mattress. It is unique in an increasingly crowded online space, and I appreciate how Novosbed has not sacrificed the quality of foam or fabrics to lower their price. It is a little more expensive than some other online mattress brands but when you compare the specs you’ll see why: pound-for-pound and stitch-for-stitch, the Novosbed is the most affordable luxury mattress on the market. You are getting what I consider to be close to Tempur-Pedic quality at a fraction of the price.

Shop Novosbed.
