Oh, you wanna know about the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress? Well, let me tell you, it’s like sleeping on a cloud made of magic foam! This upgraded version of the original T&N model has got all the bells and whistles, with layers of cooling gel-infused foam, adaptive foam that hugs your curves, and a high-density foam base for ultimate support. And let’s not forget the super stylish and breathable cover that keeps you cool and dry all night long. It’s so comfy, you might just want to spend all day in bed!
Tuft & Needle just launched an all-new mattress for 2018 called the Mint. This mattress is thicker and plusher than the original Tuft and Needle. I was able to buy a twin size earlier this year. Below are my findings. A queen size Mint mattress retails for $995 after discounts and comes with two free pillows.
Tuft and Needle has received a significant amount of positive press and media attention since its founding in 2012. The company has been featured in numerous publications and news outlets, including:
- Forbes: Forbes has included Tuft and Needle on its list of America’s Most Promising Companies and named the founders to its 30 Under 30 list.
- Fast Company: The company has been profiled in Fast Company for its disruptive approach to the mattress industry and its commitment to customer service.
- Good Morning America: Tuft and Needle has been featured on Good Morning America as a top-rated mattress brand and a great value for consumers.
- The Wall Street Journal: The Wall Street Journal has covered Tuft and Needle’s unique business model, which focuses on selling directly to consumers and cutting out middlemen to keep costs low.
- Consumer Reports: Tuft and Needle mattresses have been highly rated by Consumer Reports, which praised their comfort and durability.
Overall, Tuft and Needle has received positive press for its innovative business model, commitment to customer satisfaction, and high-quality, affordable mattresses.
Overview of the Tuft and Needle Mint Mattress
The Tuft and Needle Mint arrives in a box very similar to the original Tuft and Needle mattress.
The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress typically ships for free via FedEx Ground within the contiguous United States. After placing your order, the mattress is compressed, vacuum-sealed, and rolled into a box for easy shipping and handling.
Once the mattress is shipped, you will receive a tracking number via email, which you can use to track the shipment and estimate the delivery date. The mattress usually arrives within 3-7 business days, depending on your location.
When the mattress arrives, you can easily unbox it and set it up in your bedroom. Simply place the box on your bed frame or foundation, unroll the mattress, and carefully cut away the plastic wrapping. The mattress will begin to expand and take shape, and should be ready to sleep on within a few hours.
Here’s what it looks like out of the box. To open it just use scissors and carefully cut into the plastic making sure not to cut the fabric or the mattress.
The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress has a sleek and modern appearance. The mattress is approximately 12 inches thick and has a clean and simple design, with a white top cover and gray side panels.
Below is a video overview of the mattress.
The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress is designed to provide a balanced feel of comfort and support. The mattress has a medium-firm feel, which is often described as a “universal comfort” that can work well for a wide range of sleepers.
The top layer of the mattress is made of a foam that is infused with cooling gel and graphite, which helps to regulate temperature and prevent overheating. This layer provides a soft and plush feel while also preventing you from sinking too deeply into the mattress.
The middle layer of the mattress is made of adaptive foam, which contours to the shape of your body and provides pressure relief where you need it most. This layer helps to relieve pressure points and reduce motion transfer, making it a great option for couples or anyone who shares their bed with a partner.
The bottom layer of the mattress is made of high-density foam, which provides a sturdy base for the mattress and helps to ensure that you get the support you need throughout the night.
Overall, the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress feels comfortable and supportive, with a nice balance of plushness and firmness that should work well for most sleepers.
Construction of the Tuft and Needle Mint Mattress
-
1. More Graphite
30% extra graphite maximizes cooling, sweeping 50% more heat away from the body.
-
2. Higher Quality Gel
Upgraded Ceramic Gel absorbs 5 times more heat than conventional blue-gel products.
-
3. Open Cell Technology
Our open-cell foam technology is designed to allow air to flow freely through the mattress, increasing breathability.
The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress is constructed using a combination of foam layers that work together to provide a comfortable and supportive sleeping experience.
Here’s a breakdown of the layers in the mattress:
- The top layer is made of a special type of foam that is infused with graphite and cooling gel. This layer is designed to regulate temperature and prevent overheating while providing a soft and plush feel.
- The middle layer is made of adaptive foam, which contours to the shape of your body and provides pressure relief where you need it most. This layer helps to relieve pressure points and reduce motion transfer.
- The bottom layer is made of high-density foam, which provides a sturdy and supportive base for the mattress. This layer helps to ensure that you get the support you need throughout the night.
The mattress is covered with a breathable and moisture-wicking cover that helps to keep you cool and dry throughout the night. The cover is also removable and machine washable for easy cleaning and maintenance.

Tuft and Needle Mint Complaints
While the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress has generally received positive reviews from customers, there are a few common complaints that have been reported. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- Too firm: While many customers appreciate the medium-firm feel of the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress, some have found it to be too firm for their liking. This can be especially true for side sleepers who prefer a softer, more cushioned feel.
- Odor: Some customers have reported that the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress has a strong odor when first unpacked. This is a common issue with foam mattresses and is caused by off-gassing, which occurs when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released from the foam. However, the odor typically dissipates within a few hours to a few days.
- Motion transfer: While the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress is designed to minimize motion transfer, some customers have reported that they can still feel movement from their partner or pet when they move around in bed.
- Durability: A few customers have reported that the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress doesn’t hold up as well over time as they had hoped. This can include issues with sagging or loss of support, although these reports are relatively rare.
My Tuft and Needle Mint Findings
The Tuft and Needle Mint is a considerably softer mattress than the original. You sink into this mattress right away and it hugs you a lot more as you can see in the picture below.
Below is another video showing how responsive each layer is inside the mattress. Notice that the top layers still recover fairly quickly.
Here’s a quick video that illustrates how the Tuft and Needle Mint Handles Motion transfer. Since it’s an all foam mattress and it cradles so well, you really won’t feel movement from your partner at night.
Finally, here’s a video taken with my thermal camera that shows heat retention on the mattress.
Tuft and Needle by Sleeping Position
The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress is designed to work well for a variety of sleeping positions, including side, back, and stomach sleepers. The mattress offers a medium-firm feel, which provides a good balance of comfort and support that can accommodate different sleeping styles.
Here’s how the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress works for different sleeping positions:
- Side sleepers: Side sleepers typically need a mattress that offers good pressure relief for the hips and shoulders. The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress has a layer of adaptive foam that contours to the shape of your body, helping to relieve pressure points and provide a comfortable sleeping surface for side sleepers.
- Back sleepers: Back sleepers need a mattress that provides good support for the lower back and spine. The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress has a high-density foam base layer that provides a sturdy and supportive base, while the adaptive foam layer conforms to the shape of your body, helping to keep your spine in a neutral position.
- Stomach sleepers: Stomach sleepers need a mattress that is firm enough to keep their spine in a neutral position and prevent their hips from sinking too far into the mattress. The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress offers a medium-firm feel that provides good support and can work well for stomach sleepers.
Overall, the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress is designed to work well for a wide range of sleeping positions, and the medium-firm feel offers a good balance of comfort and support that can help you get a good night’s sleep, regardless of how you prefer to sleep.
Tuft and Needle Mint Trial and Warranty
The Tuft and Needle Mint mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial, which allows you to try out the mattress in the comfort of your own home for up to 100 nights. This trial period gives you plenty of time to decide whether the mattress is the right fit for you.
If you decide that the mattress is not the right fit for you during the 100-night sleep trial, you can return it for a full refund. Tuft and Needle will work with you to coordinate the pickup and return of the mattress, and you will receive a full refund of the purchase price once the mattress has been picked up.
The 100-night sleep trial is a great way to test out the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress and make sure that it’s the right fit for you. It gives you the opportunity to sleep on the mattress for an extended period of time and evaluate its comfort and support, without the pressure of making a final decision right away.
My Tuft and Needle Mint Recommendation
If you want a soft mattress that you can really sink into quickly, this is a great mattress. While it’s easy to make a soft mattress, it’s not so easy to stay cool. Tuft and Needle has incorporated multiple cooling features that will add up to a comfortable and cool nights sleep for side sleepers or anyone who wants a super comfortable and conforming mattress.

Tempurpedic is arguably the most popular mattress brand in the United States and has the most name recognition. The name Tempurpedic and memory foam are almost synonymous. But lately, there has been an explosion of new online and store brands that aim to compete with Tempurpedic not only on price but also on feel. I have slept on hundreds of mattresses during my time as a mattress reviewer and I can get a good or bad impression of a mattress quickly, no pun intended.
In this review, I take a close look at the Tempflow brand and how it compares to Tempurpedic. I often don’t make many comparisons to Tempurpedic because it does have a unique feel, largely due to the quality. Both Tempurpedic and Tempflow offer different models and firmness levels for your sleep needs but where they seem to differ the most is price. Tempflow is on average at least a thousand dollars less than a Tempurpedic, all with a 120-night sleep trial and industry-leading, 40-year warranty.
Ordering the Tempurpedic vs. Tempflow
Both of these mattresses can be ordered online through their respective websites. They also are available to try in showrooms but Tempurpedic has the largest national footprint for showrooms. They can be demoed at any Mattress Firm location or other major sleep retailers. Tempflow has a showroom in Agoura Hills, CA, and may be available to try in other showrooms soon. Tempflow lists which of their models are comparable to the Tempurpedic mattresses on their website so you can try a Tempurpedic locally and order a comparable Tempflow online and take advantage of their 120-day trial.
How Much Does the Tempflow Cost in Comparison to Tempurpedic Models?
On average you will be paying considerably less for a Tempflow than a Tempurpedic. For example, the Tempflow Cloud is currently selling for $1,319 with a discount while the compatible Tempurpedic Cloud is selling for $1,399 after a discount. You really notice the savings though when you compare the higher-end models. For example, the Tempflow-Glacier Elite sells for $2,999 after discount while the comparable Tempur-Pro Breeze retails for $4,099 after discount.
In terms of the trial period, Tempflow is a 120-day trial while the Tempurpedic is 90 days, so you basically get an extra month to try out the Tempflow.
As for warranty, Tempflow is offering a 40-year warranty while Tempurpedic has a 10-year warranty.

My Tempurpedic vs Tempflow Findings
I was invited out to the Tempflow store to try out their mattress and they also had a comparable Tempurpedic so it was a perfect opportunity to see how they compare.
What sets Tempflow apart from all the other brands I have tried is that they have a patented cooling system where they create channels in the memory foam for heat to dissipate. This method in my opinion is superior to any phase change cooling technology because I find that the phase change cooling material only has a temporary effect and lasts for about 20 minutes or so before the mattress starts to heat up.
This is illustrated in the picture below.

THE DOCTOR’S TAKE | Its very soft and quick reacting surface works rapidly in any environment to provide you with optimal pressure point reduction for the joints, while still supporting the back with its resilient lower layers. | This hybrid mattress is perfect for those who want something between a memory foam and inner-spring design. You will still get a soft surface, but the Flex-Comfort layer makes this model more buoyant and therefore, perfect for those who do not like an overly plush mattress. | With the most use of the stiffer/firmer HD Biogreen in the surface layers, greater depth of body penetration will occur, while still providing optimal support. This allows this mattress reduce pressure for the shoulders and hips, while suiting heavier individuals, back sleepers, and most back pain sufferers. | The soft over thicker and firmer HD Biogreen surface gives a dimension of comfort, with the most optimal support. The stiffer base will work well for heavier individuals, back sleepers, and most back pain sufferers. |
My Recommendation for a Tempflow vs. Tempurpedic.
Both the Tempflow and Tempurpedic are very high-quality mattresses. They use dense foam which means that it will contour better and last longer. With Tempurpedic being a household name, and a pioneer in the memory foam mattress category, they will always command a higher price point. Tempurpedic can be hard to beat on feel. Just keep in mind that in my opinion, Tempurpedic does skew a bit firmer than other mattresses on the market so even their, “soft” model may feel more like a medium.
I am a big fan of the Ventilated and Kool-Flow technology in the Tempflow mattresses and over the course of the night, it does a better job of dissipating heat than just about all other memory foam mattresses I have tried.
Given the Tempflow is on average less than comparable Tempurpedic models, and they have a generous 120 night trial period, I would be inclined to give the Tempflow a try if you are looking for a high-quality mattress with an industry-leading warranty and great customer service.

My Nectar Copper Premier Findings
I expected a plush feel with this mattress given the construction but what I actually felt was a more medium-firm mattress. As these online mattress brands mature, they learn to dial in the feel so that is is optimized for most sleeping positions. This helps is a win for customers because they will get a great feeling mattress and a win for the company because it reduces returns.
Here I am sleeping on my back and you can see that it doesn’t sink in all that much so it’s great for both stomach and back sleepers. After opening this mattress I immediately felt the cooling effects of the phase change material.
For side sleepers, there’s adequate pressure relief. Again, you don’t sink into this mattress too much, just the right amount. If you are used to a more plush mattress, this may take some time to adjust and you may want to explore a thicker pillow as you shoulders aren’t going to sink in as much.
Below is my 14lb. bowling ball on the mattress to illustrate sinkage. What I like is that

My Nectar Premier Copper Recommendation
Nectar has really matured as a mattress company over the years and has now created a lineup that can legitimately compete with other big-name retail brands which is why you will start seeing them in more mattress showrooms across the country. They still offer their industry-leading 365-night trial where you can basically try it for a year and return it for free within that year if you don’t like it. You also get their innovative Forever Warranty where as long as you own the mattress, they will work with you to resolve any factory defects or other issues the warranty covers.
Nectar has made a name for itself in providing value in their mattresses and the new Premier Copper is their best offering to date.

It’s easy to find a firm mattress. Just go to any local mattress store and ask for their cheapest option. It’s definitely firm, but is it comfortable? Probably not. It may feel OK in the showroom but once you get it home and sleep on it for a night, chances are you will find yourself tossing and turning because there isn’t enough material between you and those springs jabbing you in the ribs. Finding a firm mattress that is actually comfortable is a little more challenging than it seems. The Allswell Brick is anything but a brick. Its a firm mattress with enough foam at the top to keep you comfortable all night long. On top of that, it comes in at a very competitive price.
Overview of the Allswell Brick
You can order the Allswell Brick directly from the Allswell website. Delivery is fast because it is made in the USA. Mine arrived in a week at my doorstep. It will compressed in a box so it’s easy to get it into your bedroom. To setup, you simply take it out of the box and cut open the plastic wrapping and the mattress will spring to life.
Construction of the Allswell Brick
The construction is fairly simple and rightly so. You shouldn’t have a lot of layers in a firm mattress. Here are the details as listed on their website.
How Much Does the Allswell Brick Cost?
Below are the prices as of this writing. Make sure to check Allswell for the latest prices.

My Allswell Brick Findings
Here’s what the mattress looked like minutes after opening it. It is fully shaped and ready to sleep on. There wasn’t that much off-gassing either. Since this mattress has springs, it doesn’t take long at all for it to come to shape.
This mattress is designed for people that like a firm feel and that’s usually stomach and back sleepers. But occasionally, even side sleepers want to sleep on a firm mattress. Below is a picture of me sleeping on my side to show you how much you actually sink into the mattress. As you can see, I am sort of floating on top of it. So, if you are going to sleep on your side with this mattress, make sure your pillow is thick enough to give your head and neck proper support so your body is aligned.
Below you can see me on my back. My hips are properly elevated and I have great support. I don’t normally sleep on my back but the complaints I hear from back sleepers is the mattress bows or it is too firm in that they feel sore when they wake up. This mattress has quality foam at the top layer so this shouldn’t be an issue either.
This mattress really shines for stomach sleepers. No matter how hard I try, I usually end up on my stomach at some point during the night. If the matress is too soft, you will feel it in your lower back in the morning. This mattress is firm enough to keep you supported in any position. In fact, I probably need a thinner pillow here.
Here’s a picture of my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress. It almost looks like it is floating. There’s very little sink to this mattress so you won’t feel trapped at all and as a bonus, it’s easy to move around on.
Here’s a peek at the inside of the mattress. Notice that there are 2 foam layers and the base spring layer. The springs around the perimeter of the mattress are a little firmer to provide adequate edge support so you can sleep right up to the edge.
My Allswell Brick Recommendation
The Allswell Brick can be yours for less than $650 in a queen size. That’s far below most of the online competition. And keep in mind, this mattress is made in the USA and has springs and quality foam. It also comes with a 100 night trial along with free shipping and free returns so you aren’t out any money if you don’t like it within the trial period. If you keep it, you are still backed by a 10-year warranty. Yes, you can probably score a cheaper mattress at a big retailer. Those are known in the industry as a teaser mattress that they use to sell you up to more expensive one. But it makes much more sense to go with one that you can actually try out for a few nights in your house to make absolutely sure it’s the right fit. Remember, this is a firm mattress that’s not hard on you or your wallet.

The Glad Grid mattress is a 3 layer foam mattress with a unique checker patterned cover. This mattress is designed to be soft for side sleeping and has some unique features that I haven’t found in any other mattress. I was given a queen size for review and after sleeping on it for 2 weeks I have been pleasantly surprised by how it feels as a side and occasional stomach sleeper.
Ordering Your Glad Grid Mattress
Here’s a quick video overview of the GladGrid and what to expect.
Right now this mattress is available exclusively through their website. Delivery was fast for me. It mine arrived 5 days after the order was placed and it arrived in a box like the one below. Keep in mind that Glad Grid has free shipping and free returns.
How Much Does the Glad Grid Mattress Cost?
It’s best to check their website for the most current prices. As of this writing, a queen size retails for $788. This includes shipping and if you decide you don’t like it within 120 days, it’s a free return. If you decide to keep it, you are backed by their 10-year warranty.
Construction of the Glad Grid Mattress
Below are the construction specifications as listed on the website

6″ 25D32 Base Support Memory Foam
Copper-Infused Layer
- Copper adds a more refreshing and cool feeling and helps your mattress keep clean.
- Softest-Minus technology is powered by a special molecular structure to let the body heat out.
- Responsiveness to body weight encouraging pressure relief.
Gel-Infused Layer
- Gel creates more sweat-free sleep and encourages sleep motion absorption.
- Shoulder-In system encourages healthy spine alignment and full-body relief.
Support Layer
Enhances the whole mattress stability and support level, caring for your glad sleep for the years to come.
My Glad Grid Findings
The first thing that struck me when unboxing this mattress was the checker pattern for the cover. It looks fantastic and although you will be covering it with sheets, I definitely give it credit for the design. Aside from the visual appeal, it also has handles on each side to make it easy to move or rotate.
The cover is also removable but I wouldn’t recommend removing it. If you need to clean it for some reason, there is a zipper at the bottom of the mattress.
As I mentioned, I’m primarily a side sleeper and this mattress is designed to allow you shoulders to sink in without losing back support. They do this by adding more of the comfort foam in the should area as seen below.
Here’s a picture of me on my side to better illustrate this.
Although this mattress is marketed as being soft, it doesn’t cradle you like a typical soft mattress would. That’s largely because there is not a quilted over and it is not overly engineered with too much foam. Instead, it uses more of the softer foam in the right places. Here you can see that my 14lb. bowling ball doesn’t sink in all that much at the middle of the mattress.
My GladGrid Recommendation
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this mattress and after a few weeks of sleeping on it, it has greatly exceeded my expectations. Although it is marketed as a soft mattress, I thought it would be much firmer. The reality is that it offers great pressure relief, especially for my shoulders and I have been having great sleep. On top of that, you get a quality, silver infused cover with a beautiful pattern and stitched handles. The copper and gel foams offer great cooling properties and the mattress itself is not terribly heavy. I recommend trying the Glad Grid if you are a side sleeper that tends to sleep hot and are looking for great pressure relief around your shoulders without being surrounded by the mattress while you sleep.

This is a 13-inch mattress with a pillow top style that will transport you straight to a lush and tranquil green forest reserve. It is a mid-level mattress that lies between the other two mattress types offered by Country Living. It is crafted with 4 inches of memory foam that remembers your body curves perfectly supported with another 8 inches of the coil to give you perfect balance between comfort, support, and bounce.
The materials used in the mattress are all responsibly sourced. The outer quilting is cotton, and the mattress layers include the cotton quilt, two different types of foam, and high-density polyfoam. Needless to say, this ensures that the mattress does an excellent job of temperature control. You can choose your level of firmness, but the best reviews are with the medium level of firmness. Country Living has the best in between the two sides of firmness with the medium firm. Added to this is the best back support you can get from a mattress. This makes the “Hudson Mattress” a sure shot winner for one and old.

Common Features of the Country Living Mattresses
One of the biggest drawbacks of buying online is that the mattress comes to your doorstep packed, and you need to carry it inside and unbox it. Then you have to place it properly on the bed. This process can be tiresome and tedious, not to mention back-breaking for quite a few.
With Country Living, you do not have to worry about that account. The mattress comes to you rolled up in a casing in a dehydrated form. You can easily carry it inside and place the rolled up matter on the bed. Then cut the wrapping around the mattress and wait for it to inflate to the proper size. The whole process is very easy and highly convenient.
Apart from this, each of these lovely mattresses is made 100% in the USA. They also come with the best free night trial offered by any brand in the USA. You get a good 18 months trial period with any of these mattresses and a full refund if you return them within the trial period. All you have to do is raise a return request, and the mattress is picked up by the company at no extra cost to you. They are also all available in the standard six sizes from twin to cal-king, and the level of firmness is also customizable with each one.
Wrapping Up and Final Thoughts on the Country Living Mattress
The Welcome Home mattress range from Country Life is truly a mattress that welcomes you back. All three types of mattresses are perfect for a good night’s rest and combine the key elements of balance and support perfectly. They are also durable and customizable, which adds to their high value for money.

The Haven Premier mattress is an all-foam mattress that promises a 5-star sleep with their proprietary 5 layer construction. While this mattress may not be for everyone, it will appeal to sleepers looking for superior pressure relief, minimal motion transfer, and the latest cooling technology all for an incredible price.
Overview of the Haven Premier Mattress
You can order the Haven exclusively through their website. My mattress a week after placing the order and arrived compressed in a box as seen in the video below. You will probably need 2 people to get this upstairs if you buy a queen-size or larger. When you open the mattress it will come to life relatively quickly. If you open it before 12pm you should be able to sleep on it that evening although there may be some lingering off-gassing but that should go away after a day or two.
How Much Does the Haven Premier Cost?
Below are the current retail prices of the Haven Premier before any current discounts.
Size | Price |
---|---|

Twin XL | $849 |
Full | $999 |
Queen | $1,099 |

Construction of the Haven Premier
This mattress has 5 layers detailed below.
Quilted Cover – A high quality 450GSM washable quilted cover, this fabric is designed to work with the body’s natural thermal capabilities. It helps you to feel warm when you are cold and cool when you feel hot.
Fireproof Cloth – All Natural Organic Cotton is wrapped all the way around the Haven Premier. This fabric is eco-friendly, healthy and allows for exceptional airflow.
3″ Haven cooling buoyancy foam – Where the magic happens: Our custom blended foam with gel infusion, reacts faster than memory foam and has better support for more pressure relief, all while sleeping cooler.
2″ Supportive transition foam – Perforated holes that help the mattress breath and provide extra responsiveness.
7″ Haven high density foam – 7″ Haven High Density Foam Base – At 7″ our bases provide superior stability for every layer. It’s one reason our Haven foam gel mattresses have at least 1″ extra height compared to other brands And at 2.4lb of foam core density, this is at least 30% more than the market average, making it extra durable
Fireproof cloth – All Natural Organic Cotton is wrapped all the way around the Haven Premier. This fabric is eco-friendly, healthy and allows for exceptional airflow.
Base cover – A washable, durable and replaceable layer to keep your mattress clean. Just unzip at the side and it’s ready to be removed for cleaning.
My Haven Premier Mattress Findings
The Haven Premier has a quilted foam cover. As you can see in the picture below the quilting runs horizontally along the mattress. You can’t feel the ridges at all but it by stitching the mattress this way, it provides a more consistent feel across the mattress and prevents sagging. I put my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress to show how much it sinks. Most of the sinkage occurs from the quilted top layer and the top layer of comfort foam. This is also a thick fabric cover so it won’t wear down easily or tear but still stretches so that you get maximum contouring from the foam layers below. A typical 3 layer online foam mattress will have a stretch knit cover but it’s usually thin and is prone to tears.
This mattress really shines when you sleep on your side. It has great pressure relief for your hips and shoulders but not too much sink. I didn’t sleep hot on this mattress and was still able to change positions easily. That’s in large part to the 3 inches of buoyancy foam which is the top comfort layer of the mattress. It will contour and recover quickly and doesn’t trap as much heat compared to traditional memory foam.
I rarely sleep on my back but as you can see below even though you sink a fair amount into this mattress you are still getting good support. I wouldn’t recommend this for dedicated stomach sleeping but it is great for side and back sleeping.
Here you can see the different layers of the mattress. The blue layer is the buoyancy foam that gives this mattress its unique feel. When you pair that with the quilted foam in the cover, you get a more luxurious feel as opposed to a typical 3 layer mattress with a simple knit cover.
Final Thoughts on the Haven Mattress
This mattress easily justifies its retail price but when you take into consideration the massive discount it’s a steal. On top of that, Haven offers an 18-month trial. This is one of the longest trials for any mattress brand. You can try it out in your house for a year and a half and if you still don’t like it within that time, you can return it for a full refund. They don’t charge any shipping fees to deliver or return it. If you decide to keep it, you are backed by their, “Everlasting Warranty”. What stood out with this warranty is that as long as you own the mattress they will warrant against any defects but also any impressions over 1″ which again is a leader in the industry.
Finally, if price is a concern, Haven offers great financing terms so you can break down the cost into small monthly payments so that you can start getting better sleep now and pay it off over time.
I highly recommend the Haven to sleepers that prefer a plush feeling mattress without the drawbacks of heat retention and lack of support. This mattress has zero motion transfer and is great for maximum pressure relief.

How Much Doe the Idle Gel Foam Mattress Cost?
Below are the current prices of the mattress and the price with the 20% discount. You can get the 20% off through Sleep Sherpa.

Queen | $1,249 | $1,000 |
King | $1,499 | $1,200 |
California King | $1,499 | $1,200 |
How Long is the Idle Plush Mattress Trial Period?
Idle Sleep offers the longest trial period of any brand that I have reviewed. You get 18 months to try out the mattress in your home. That’s a year and a half or 540 days! If you for whatever reason, don’t like it after that time, it’s a free return with a full refund. The standard among online mattress brands is 100 nights, some companies upped the ante with a 1-year trial but Idle is way ahead of the pack here.
My Idle Plush Mattress Findings
This is one of the softest mattresses I have ever tried. This makes it most suitable for side sleepers or back sleepers that want maximum pressure relief. I wouldn’t recommend this mattress for stomach sleepers because it just doesn’t have enough support for your lower back when sleeping on your stomach.
Here you can see how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress.
My Idle Sleep Plush Mattress Recommendation
I recommend the Idle Gel Plush to people looking for a very soft mattress. If your main concern with sleep is pressure relief, then this a great choice. One of the issues with really soft mattresses is that they are prone to trapping heat and although this is a soft foam mattress, Idle has incorporated cooling gel into the top layer to help a bit with cooling. That said, it will sleep a bit warmer than a firmer mattress simple because you will be hugged more by this mattress.
Idle Sleep has taken away any reason to give their mattresses a try. 18 months is more than enough time to see if its right for you and you get a full refund if you want to return it within that time frame. If you have tried other plush mattresses online and still are finding one that is soft enough then the Idle Plush would be my top pick for you.

I recently received the new budget-friendly mattress from Leesa called Studio by Leesa. This is a 3 layer foam mattress similar to the original Leesa. What sets it apart from the original Leesa mattress which is also a 3 layer foam construction is that it does not sink in as much. Therefore it is more suited to people who want a mattress that has less contouring. As more of a side sleeper myself, I found the Leesa a little too firm for my taste but I think it a wonderful mattress for back and stomach sleepers looking for a quality mattress that is made in the USA at a great price.
Overview of the Studio by Leesa Mattress
Here is a video review of the Leesa Studio. Unlike most foam mattresses this one sprang to life and was ready to sleep on almost immediately. I did notice some off-gassing which took a few days to dissipate so if you are sensitive to smells you probably should open this in another room to let it air out for a few days. Eventually, the smell will go away and won’t be an issue.
Construction of the Studio by Leesa mattress
Below are the construction details of the mattress as listed on the Leesa website.
Layer specs:
- 7” foam base: Core support foam baseDensity: 1.8
- 1.5” Pressure reliving transitional foamDensity: 2.5
- 1.5” Contouring Memory FoamDensity: 2.5
CertiPUR-US ®-Certified
- Made without ozone depleters
- Made without PBDE flame retardants
- Made without mercury, lead, and other heavy metals
- Made without formaldehyd
- Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
- Low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions for indoor air quality (< 0.5 parts per million)
How Does the Leesa Studio Compare to the Original Leesa Mattress?
Since both the Leesa and Leesa Studio are 3 layer foam mattresses, it’s easy to compare. I appreciate that Leesa includes the foam density of each layer. As you can see below, the Leesa Original has denser foam at the top and transitional layers which will make it more durable and provide better pressure relief. The Leesa studio has a half in less comfort and transitional foam and makes up the height with an extra inch in the base layer. This is how they have saved on cost and it does make for a different feel.
Leesa Studio | Original Leesa |
---|---|
1.5” Contouring Memory Foam Density: 2.5 | 2" Cooling Foam Top Layer IFD: 13. DENSITY: 3.0 |
1.5” Pressure reliving transitional foam Density: 2.5 | 2" Contouring Memory Foam IFD: 9. DENSITY: 3 |
7” foam base: Core support foam base Density: 1.8 | 6" Core Support Foam Base IFD: 32. DENSITY: 1.8 |
My Studio by Leesa Findings
As you can see below, this mattress doesn’t have all that much sink to it but since it is all foam, it didn’t feel overly firm either. For reference, this is a 14 lb. bowling ball.
Here you can see that I’m not sinking in all that much while on my side. My shoulders give in a bit but my hips don’t sink much at all. Some sleepers really appreciate this and I would advise having a pillow thick enough to make up for the lack of sinkage at your shoulders.
If you sleep on your back or stomach, this mattress is a good choice. As you can see I’m fully supported.
My Studio By Leesa Recommendation
All too often I will find a mattress that is really good value and then the company will gradually increase the price as they get name recognition in the industry. That shouldn’t be the case with this mattress as Leesa is a well established online brand and they intentionally designed a mattress that has inherent value at an aggressive price that won’t compete with the original model. I highly recommend this mattress to back and stomach sleepers looking for a mattress with no motion transfer that may be new to sleeping on foam. It won’t break the bank and it’s relatively light so won’t break your back either if you have to move it down the road. The Studio by Leesa comes with a 100-night trial and 10-year warranty. That means free delivery, free returns and a full refund if you don’t like it. On top of that Leesa donates a new mattress to a child in need for every 10 that they sell. There are hundreds of 3 layer foam mattresses on the market these days and it’s nice to know that you are doing a little bit of good while making your purchase.

The Nectar mattress is one of the most popular and highly rated online mattress brands. It gets top marks among all the best mattress review sites because it is so accomodating to different types of sleepers and is a great value especially if you factor in their 365-night trial and Forever Warranty. But what if you crave a mattress that is super soft and cradles you to offer the ultimate in pressure relief? That’s where the Nectar Lush comes in. I received a free queen size

There isn’t a whole lot of detail on the densities of foam used in each later but from what I could tell it is quality foam.

The
My Nectar Lush Findings
The Nectar Lush comes shipped in a box that is a bit bigger than the original Nectar box because it is a thicker mattress, coming in a 12 inches vs the 10-inch original.
I thought that this mattress would take longer to come to shape because it is softer than the original and there’s just more foam that needs to decompress, but that wasn’t really the case. I was able to lay on this mattress about 45 minutes after opening it. Yes, there was some off-gassing but not as much as I would expect with an all-foam mattress. Keep in mind that you may notice more off-gassing than me because everyone has different sensitivities but even so, I would expect most of the off-gassing to dissipate within 24 hours.
Here you can see how easy it sinks down into the mattress. You will notice the pressure relief right away. It will also be slower to recover but since it does contour so well, you won’t be moving around much anyway.
There isn’t as much edge support on this mattress as a typical spring mattress but I didn’t feel like I was going to roll off either. A lot of people ask me about edge support because they put their shoes on at the side of the bed. I’m not sure why that’s such a big concern since your bed is primarily used for sleeping but nevertheless it is a concern I hear more than I would have expected. So although you may not enjoy putting your shoes on with this mattress, the trade-off is that it sleeps well.
Here’s a picture of me lying on my side. You can easily see how this mattress contours.
Here’s you can see me lying on my back. This mattress is great for back sleeping too.
I didn’t really like sleeping on my stomach on this mattress. I would go with the original Nectar instead if you are a dedicated stomach sleeper.
My Final Thoughts on the Nectar Lush
Shopping for a new mattress is more confusing than ever. There are hundreds of online brands to choose from, not to mention the hundreds of brands available in stores. However,

Floyd made a name for itself with the launch of its modular bed frame. Since then, the Detroit based company has launched other household furniture including their recently launched mattress. This mattress pairs perfectly with the Floyd Bed Frame since it has grippers on the bottom to keep it from sliding around on the wooden planks and it comes shipped in a box which is in keeping with the mission of the company to create durable, portable furniture at a competitive price. A queen size Floyd mattress retails for $1,095 before any discounts. Overall this is a well-constructed hybrid mattress designed to appeal to all types of sleepers.
Overview of the Floyd Mattress
Below is a video overview of the mattress. I set it up on the Floyd Bed so that you can see how it looks as a bundle.

Construction of the Floyd Mattress
Cooling top cover
Eco-friendly Tencel top that’s softer than silk, cooler than linen and ultra-breathable.
Copper Graphite Memory Foam
Open cell CertiPUR-US memory foam infused with copper and graphite naturally dissipates heat and relieves pressure points
Zone Support Pocketed Coils
Over 1,000 super breathable pocketed coils that bend and flex to contour and support your body. Layered with CertiPUR-US transition foam that further stabilize the coils and reduce motion transfer for a deep, relaxing sleep.
Perimeter Edge Support
Firm, high-gauge perimeter coils ensure edge-to-edge support and stability.
Non-Slip Bottom Cover
Platform beds rejoice. The bottom cover provides a non-slip material to keep the mattress in place.
My Floyd Mattress Findings
This mattress has a true medium-firm feel. You don’t sink in a whole bunch with this mattress as you can see below when I put my 14 lb. bowling ball on it. Since you don’t sink much and because they are using a copper and graphite layer of foam at the top, it also sleeps cool.
Here’s another shot of me pushing into the mattress to illustrate sinkage.
Here you can see how well the top layer of foam conforms. Below this layer is a transition layer that serves as a buffer layer for the coil system. You really don’t need more foam than this unless you prefer a really plush feel or need more layers to accommodate heavier sleepers.
I’m laying down on my side in the picture below and this mattress does a good job with pressure relief. However, it doesn’t sink quite a much as other hybrids like the soft version of the Winkbed or the Allswell Luxe but if you have the right pillow it will still work great for side sleeping.
This mattress has good edge support because of the coil system. This is important if you are using the Floyd Bed frame because the profile of the frame is longer than the mattress.
My Floyd Mattress Recommendation
Floyd has done a really good job with their mattress considering they don’t claim to be a mattress company first. I could tell that they put a lot of thought into the design and feel. I think it was a really smart choice to go with a hybrid construction over foam as it will have more appeal, offer better support and sleep cool. If you are looking to update your bedroom, I would take a look at their bundles where you can get a considerable discount when purchasing together. Both the bed and mattress come with a 30-day trial.

The Mend mattress is a hybrid, foam and spring mattress created by a husband and wife from Charleston, South Carolina. This mattress was designed to provide superior pressure relief while still maintaining adequate edge support. Unlike most online brands, Mend does not have a trial period. Instead, they give you the option to swap out the top layer for something firmer or softer depending on your preferences. I found this mattress to be soft right out of the box so chances are if you don’t like a soft mattress, you will want to opt for a firmer setting.
Overview of the Mend Mattress
Below is a video overview of the Mend Sleep mattress. You’ll notice that the top cover has a separate zipper that houses the foam layers making it easy to swap out and exchange. You can also flip the foam layer over for a different feel.
Construction of the Mend Sleep Mattress
Below are the construction details as listed on their website:
4-inch Comfort Layer™ – comprised of two unique foams, when paired, provide pillow-like softness and custom support.
8-inch hybrid foam-spring core – with almost 1,000 springs per mattress (king), these individually wrapped coils respond to your unique body shape to offer intuitive support and relief. The springs are surrounded by two layers of support foam, engineered to provide long-lasting resilience.
My Mend Sleep Findings
Here you can see just how much this mattress sinks. With 4 inches of foam at the top layer, you really do get a pillow top feel.
Here’s another shot with showing sinkage with my 14 lb. bowling ball.
I found this mattress super comfortable while sleeping on my side. I have broad shoulders and the mattress sank enough so that I felt great pressure relief with my shoulder and hips.
Here you can see that I am balanced out well. I could probably use a thicker pillow but my shoulders felt great.
A big reason for the creation of this mattress is that the founders felt that most of the competition did not offer adequate edge support. While that’s probably true for some of the all-foam mattresses, having a zoned coil system like the one found in the Mend mattress does the job well. You will still sink into the mattress at the edge but will notice more support around the perimeter because of the firmer coils at the edge.
Here you can see the zipper system. This probably was an added cost but well worth it, especially if they will be working with you on comfort exchanges.
Below I unzipped the cover to expose the comfort foam layer. You can see to separate colors each a different firmness. That said, each layer is still relatively soft.
My Mend Sleep Recommendation
I think the Mend Sleep mattress is ideal for side sleepers that aren’t getting adequate pressure relief from their current mattress and want a softer feel. While you can swap out the layers for something firmer, I found the out of the box firmness to be on the softer side. It seems that Mend was aiming for more of a pillow top, luxury feel with their mattress. Since a queen retails for $,1,650 it is a bit on the pricier end of the spectrum compared to other hybrids online but if you are looking for lots of pressure relief while still getting support from a quality spring system, this mattress is worth a look.

My Propel Mattress Findings
The propel feels more like a foam mattress than a spring mattress even though it is a hybrid with a base layer of pocket coils. I think this is because there is 3 inches of foam above the coil system along with a base layer of foam to absorb motion at both ends.
Here you can see how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress. It provides good contouring and I would rate this a true medium feel.
The mattress has decent edge support so you can maximize use of the entire mattress.
My Propel Mattress Recommendation
I recommend the propel mattress to people who are looking for optimal recovery at night. The Upcycle fabric is designed to turn body heat into FAR Infrared energy to promote recovery and circulation. The foams underneath provide great pressure relief and breathability which will reduce your need to change positions at night. Finally, the spring layer will make it just a bit easier to change positions and provides added contouring that foam alone just can’t provide.

Winkbeds is well known for their highly-rated hybrid mattress. They recently introduced an all-foam model, the Gravity Lux, that completely eliminates any motion transfer but still retains its feel at the top layer that sets them apart from the competition. The gravity lux retails for $1,599 in a queen size but they normally offer discounts that drop the price by at least a couple hundred dollars. That said, it is still considerably higher than the competing online foam mattresses. For this review, Winkbeds sent me a medium-firm version of their mattress, their best seller. They also offer a softer and firmer model.
Overview of the Winkbeds Gravity Lux
No matter which Winkbed you buy, you get a 120-night, risk-free trial. That means you have about 3 months to try it out in your house to see if it the right fit for you. If not, returns are free, you don’t have to pay shipping at all.
Here’s an overview of the Gravity Lux and what sets it apart from other mattresses in its class. It’s important to note that this is truly a luxury foam mattress and so comparing to lower-priced brands really isn’t a fair comparison.

My Winkbed Gravity Lux Findings
What first struck me about this mattress is that Winkbeds kept the same quilted foam and Tencel cover as they have on their original model. This makes the mattress look different from the rest but you will also feel the difference right away when you lay on it.
As you can see, they use an optic white fabric that really looks clean and sleek. Tencel fiber is more breathable and softer than cotton so you get the benefits of breathability throughout.
In the picture below I put my 14 lb. bowling ball right up to the edge of the mattress to illustrate sinkage and edge support. You get more cradling out of this mattress than most because they quilt a layer of foam into the cover which makes it feel softer without sacrificing support.
As a side sleeper and occasional stomach sleeper the medium was a good fit although side sleepers would probably enjoy the soft version more while stomach and back sleepers should look at the firm version.
This mattress is about $300 more than your average queen size online mattress but in this case I think you get what you pay for. This mattress is made in the USA and incorporates quality materials throughout. Every layer is an upgrade over your standard 3 layer foam mattress and when you add it all up you can feel the difference. The 1.8 lb. density core foam should hold up for heavier sleepers giving you a few extra years over a standard online mattress which makes it a sound investment.
My Winkbeds Gravity Lux Recommendation
I highly recommend the Winkbeds gravity lux for sleepers that are affected by partner disturbance. This mattress has basically no motion transfer but is about as close as it gets to giving you the benefits of springs. The layering of the mattress will support you where you need it most and provide a bit more sink towards your shoulders. If you like the feel of a traditional, luxury mattress but springs may be keeping you up at night, this would be a great choice. It’s also worth considering if the less expensive options are leaving you wanting more.
