Bedding is my favorite product to review aside from mattresses. People tend to underestimate how much a textile can affect the look and feel of your bed. I have slept on every type of sheet out there from flannel, microfiber, rayon, silk, linen, bamboo and cotton. Cotton is always my go-to fabric because if constructed correctly, it has just the right amount of weight, breathability and softness to make an ideal cozy sleep environment.

I recently received a free Doppio Ajour sheet set from Frette for review. Frette is known as the gold standard when it comes to luxury sheets. They have been in business over 150 years and the most prestigious hotels in the world use thier bedding. According to their website Frette linens can be found on the most expensive Yachts to the altar of St. Peter’s Basilica. I wouldn’t say these sheets are life changing but if you want a timeless look that will show off your bedroom, Frette sheets never disappoint.

Overview of Frette Sheets

The Doppio Ajour set I received came in a plastic zippered case. Obviously they want to protect the product from any liquids and stains given the price. This is a king-size set that retails for $1,150 in a king-size and is one of their most popular designs.

Frette Sheets Packaging

Here’s a closeup of the zipper.

Upon opening the plastic case you will find a welcome card with care instructions for the sheets.

Frette Unzipped

The card doesn’t get into the specifics of the construction of the sheets. It simply mentions that they are made with the longest cotton fibers in the world.  They also mention that the sheets should be put out of direct sunlight when not in use and allowed to breathe so best to use the plastic case for something else.

How Much Do Frette Sheets Cost?

Well, they certainly aren’t cheap but again, these serve two purposes in that they feel luxurious and look amazing in your bedroom. Here are the prices of the Doppio Ajour set as of this writing.

SizePrice
Queen$1,100
King$1,150
California King$1,150

My Frette Sheets Findings

What sets Frette apart from less expensive brands is the stitching. Here you can see the sham that the border created. This will make any bed look like a 5-star hotel. Obviously, the shams will have wrinkles out of the wash and to be honest, I just don’t have time to iron my linens before I put them on the bed so yes they may look a little wrinkly but they still look fantastic in my bedroom. This stitching can be found on both pillowcases and the top sheet so that when you turn down your bed it looks that much better.

frette sham

The pillowcases also have an envelope pocket so that you can completely cover your pillow in the pillowcase so that it won’t come out or be exposed. I love how the pillows look clean with no loose ends. This set comes with 2 pillowcases but you can buy separates and I have at least 4 pillows on my bed at any given time so I would want to get some extra to make it look complete.

frette pillowcase

Another detail unique to Frette is that they have a hem on the fitted sheet. So again, if you were to iron these sheets and put them on your bed the hem should line up with the bottom of the mattress creating a more symmetrical look. Not that anyone would really see this but it is another sign that Frette goes the extra mile.

Frette Recommendation

These sheets feel fantastic right out of the box and right after the first wash. I expect them to hold up well over time given their construction. Frette has a 30-day return policy where you have 30 days to return them as long as they are unused and unwashed. So you need to be committed to these sheets before putting them in the washer. These sheets are everything you dream them to be. They certainly aren’t cheap but if you want the best of the best in terms of feel and design, it’s hard to top Frette.

Snowe Percale Sheets Review: Crisp Fresh Sheets from Italy!

I received a free set of Snowe sheets for review. Snowe is the latest entrant into the online sheet space. Snowe focuses on 4 important parts of life, Sleeping, Eating, Drinking and Bathing.  The website looks just as good as the sheets and while I can’t speak to the Eating, Drinking and Bathing products on the site, the sheets really blew me away. In fact, I have had the sheets for over a week before I actually put them in the wash. Why? Because they just look and feel so nice folded up perfectly.

Snowe is a destination for the ‘home’ that’s bridging the gap between mass-market prices and high-retail luxury and quality to bring consumers elegant, sophisticated, and high-quality essentials that enhance life at every stage.

They have thoughtfully designed a collection of home essentials using the highest quality materials in the world. By working directly with the best European and American factories and cutting out the middlemen to sell directly, they’re able to offer exceptional products at a lower cost. The products are timeless, exceptional-quality products made in Portugal, Italy and the US, and are meant to live with you every day.

Ordering Your Snowe Home Percale Sheets

The Snowe Home website is a bit more robust than the other sites I have reviewed. That’s because they offer so many more products. What I do like is that you can get sheet set bundles or buy a la carte.  Once you place your order you can expect them to arrive in about a week although delivery time depends on location since they’re based out of New York. If you live in NYC, it could even be as soon as a few days. They also have an option to send them as a gift to someone.

Unboxing Snowe Home Percale Sheets

Unboxing the sheets was a fun experience. The sheets come folded in a neat brown paper wrap. It sort of felt like going back in time and opening a package sent from Europe in the 1920s. No, I’m not sleeping on the packaging so why should I care? Well, if they pay that much attention to detail on the packaging, it bodes well for the quality and detail of the sheets.

The Co-Founders of Snowe Home also sent a handwritten note in the package. A great touch that just gives the brand that extra class.

My Snowe Percale Sheets Findings

As with all the sheets I have reviewed, I like to wash them with The Laundress detergent. If you’re going to invest in luxury sheets, you might as well make them smell luxurious too. What I noticed is that when I first washed these sheets they were very wet out of the washer. The stitching is very tight so they felt kind of hard and water would pool in the crevices of the sheets. although I have an older washing machine so this could be specific to my rinse cycle. I put them in the dryer and they softened up but they are the crispest sheets I have slept on. By that I mean they are very smooth and clean feeling. You’ll want to fold these or even iron them right out of the wash because the wrinkles will be hard to get out otherwise.

These are 500 thread count percale sheets. For comparison, Parachute has stone washed percale sheets with a matte finish that gives it more of a lived-in look while Snowe is smoother and more sophisticated looking. One isn’t necessarily better than the other, it really comes down to what feel you like against your skin and how you want your bedroom to look.

It’s clear that these are quality sheets and the just feel durable. The tight weave makes me confident I could string a bunch of these sheets together and escape a from a high tower, just like in the movies!

As a bonus you also get little pouches or storage envelopes to store your sheets when not in use. Never store sheets in plastic bags as this can cause them to yellow. These are also made of percale fabric of the same color as your sheets so you never have to guess which color is inside them.

I really enjoy the feel of these sheets, they are very breathable but also have a crisp clean feel. It takes about 3-5 washes for them to really break in but they are very durable and should hold up very well over time.

In comparison to the other sheets I have reviewed, they are smoother and crisper than the Parachute sheets. Parachute doesn’t publish their thread count so I’m not sure the number but Snowe definitely feels smoother.

Below is the cost of the Snowe sheet set which includes a fitted sheet, top sheet, and 2 pillowcases.

Snowe Sheets Price

Here’s what the same set would cost at Parachute

For context, they are closest in feel to the Frette Percale. A trade-off is that you don’t get the intricate patterns and design that Frette offers but they come in much less. Both are long staple Egyptian cotton percale sheets made in Italy.

So between a Frette and Snowe comparison, I would go with Snowe.

My Snowe Percale Sheets Recommendation

Snowe brings you luxury percale at a more accessible price. This is a new company and they should be bringing more designs to market soon. Snowe sheets if you want sheets high-end percale sheets that look amazing and have a crisp clean feel.

I received a set of Frette Sheets for review. If you Google, “Luxury Sheets” you’ll find that Frette is usually at the top of the results, and for good reason.  I had the honor of being able to review a set of Frette Bicolore Sheets for this site. The retail price for a king size set is $1,295. Not something most people would purchase on a whim. Many people consider these sheets an investment and an heirloom. They have a timeless beauty to and have a reputation for durability. Since these are probably the most expensive sheets I will ever sleep in, I will be conducting a more in-depth review that will be updated over time to track the quality of the sheets.

History of Frette Sheets

Frette Sheets were established in 1860 in Grenoble France but soon relocated to Concorezzo Italy in 1865 and is currently headquartered in Monza Italy. It sells sheets to high-end hotels globally but only has 9 stores in the United States.

Frette sheets were found on the Titanic, the Orient Express and in the houses of royal families across Europe.

My Frette Sheets Review

I received the sheets via FedEx today and they came in a nondescript brown box about 2 feet long and 1 foot wide.

Frette Shipping Box

Inside the box, however, was a beautiful Frette box with a hand-tied bow along with a personalized card.

Frette Box

Inside the box were the perfectly folded sheets as well as a plastic case for keeping the sheets when not in use.

Frette Sheets Box 2

The sheets are in the wash right now and will be drying soon. I hope to put them on tonight or tomorrow night for their first trial. I hear that it sometimes takes a few washes for them to soften up but I can say that they felt extremely smooth and crisp right out of the box.

My Frette Sheets Findings

I washed the sheets today and put them on my bed. The first thing I noticed is that the fitted sheet has deep pockets which is great if you have a thick mattress or use a mattress pad. The Frette sheets are also a bit longer than my regular sheets. I think this is so that you can turn them down more to show the cool pattern.

After my first night on them, I found that they weren’t exceptionally smooth compared to my Cariloha bamboo sheets but I know that it takes a few washed before they get to their true feel. I will get a chance to use them next week when I’m back from a Memorial Day weekend trip and will be posting regular updates.

I also recently reviewed the Frette Doppio Ajour Sheet Set. I would recommend this set as a starting point if you are looking to experience all Frette has to offer.
