Purple just launched a new pet bed and if it’s anything like the Purple mattress, which it is, it will certainly be disrupting the pet bed industry. This bed is made with the same polymer grid system that made the Purple mattress famous. Dogs and cats are really in for a treat.
How Much Does the Purple Pet Bed Cost?

How is the Purple Pet Bed Made?
The specific construction details aren’t out yet but the design is in keeping with the Purple mattress. What makes this so unique is the comfort grid system which collapses where it gets the most pressure and supports where there is less pressure creating great contouring.
According to their Kickstarter campaign, this pet bed has a washable cover, is odor resistant, moisture resistant, anti-microbial and hypoallergenic.
Is the Purple Pet Bed Good for Dogs and Cats?
Yes, I think it’s safe to say any animal with Paws will be able to appreciate this bed as much as humans love their Purple mattress.
The Purple Pet Bed is a great addition to the purple offering. It really rounds out their line of products and puts Purple in a category by itself. By that I mean they have been able to find many uses for their innovative comfort grid. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more expansion in the near future. Purple furniture anyone?
My Purple Dog Bed Findings
Although this is officially listed as a pet bed, I think the majority of people will use this as a dog bed. My 5-month-old mini Australian Shepherd really took to this bed.
The bed is made so that you can remove the cover and it is machine washable. I washed this cover and dried it in the dryer on low heat and there was no shrinkage and it was super easy to put back on.
Underneath the cover is a waterproof membrane that feels very familiar to the Purple mattress protector. It’s stretchy and so will work with the polymer grid.
Here’s a look at the inside of the bed. It has the same polymer grid that the Purple Mattress uses, just less thick.
Here’s a picture of the inside of the bed.
My Purple Pet Bed Recommendation
Overall this isn’t a cheap pet bed. I bought the medium size which currently retails for $189. I expect this bed to last a while and my pet has no complaints. I recommend this to pets that tend to get hot because it works the same way as their popular mattresses and I found their mattresses to sleep very cool and I highly recommend them to hot sleepers. I also like the fact that the cover is easy to remove and wash. This is a low maintenance good looking pet bed that should last year.

Big Barker Dog Bed Review

The Big Barker is a premium memory foam dog bed that has outstanding Amazon reviews. I purchased an large size Big Barker to test out myself to compare against others in the market place. You will pay a premium for this dog bed but if you have a large dog, there’s few others that offer the support and durability of the Big Barker.
Ordering
The Big Barker is sold exclusively through Amazon. Thankfully it is Prime eligible and doesn’t take all that long for it to arrive at your door. 2 days for Prime customers. It also arrives in a box much smaller than the bed itself. Below is a video of me unboxing the be bed and you can see how quickly it takes shape. I also purchased the waterproof cover that goes over the foam and inside the top cover.
Findings
This bed is very similar in construction to some of the memory foam human mattresses I have reviewed. Although not as thick, the foam is CertiPur Certified which means that it is free of the following:
- Made without ozone depleters
- Made without PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants
- Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals
- Made without formaldehyde
- Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
- Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)
The vast majority of dog beds I see listed on Amazon are made in China. The Big Barker is Made in the USA. There’s no mystery about what’s inside. My dog is 13 years old and she sleeps most of her days. That means I want her to be sleeping on something that isn’t going to be harmful to her health.
Here’s a video of the inside of the mattress. The foam is not as soft as a typical memory foam mattress. It pushes back rather quickly. So, this is a mattress that you dog will sleep “on” rather than “in”.
Here’s how the Big Barker handles motion transfer. As you can see it has a little bit of bounce to it but still does a good job of containing motion. This probably doesn’t matter much for dogs since they sleep alone but still something to consider.
Conclusion
The Big Barker is a well made bed but commands a high price. At $199 for a large plus $69 for the waterproof membrane, this is certainly an investment. However, you can expect this dog bed to last MUCH longer than a cheap bed made in China where the contents are uncertain. It also is substantial enough to support big dogs. In fact, a human under 160 lbs could easily sleep on this without having to worry about bottoming out.
If you have a dog that likes to rest their head against the arm of a couch or on a pillow, they also make a pillow top edition. Old dogs sleep much more than humans and investing in a quality bed will dramatically enhance their quality of life.

Ooroo Pet Bed Review

The Ooroo Pet Bed is a foldable bed for your dog or cat. It’s a great choice for people that live in a small house or apartment that may want to get the pet bed out of the way or at least make it smaller when company comes over. It is the most versatile pet bed I have come across in that it can serve as a piece of furniture for humans when not being used by your pet.
Ordering
You can purchase the Ooroo pet bed direct from their website. I comes in three sizes. Your bed will arrive in about a week from ordering and is shipped via UPS. Right out of the box you’ll find that it is shrink wrapped which would prevent it from getting water damage if your package was left out in the rain.
Construction
The Ooroo is a foam dog bed that can be flipped just like the Ooroo Mattress. I suppose this would also make a nice step for your dog if they want to get into your bed! Not sure why they would though since this one is nice and comfy. Maybe if you have two small dogs they could each claim a tier of the mattress.
Findings
The Ooroo is a little firmer than the Brentwood Home dog bed that I recently reviewed. The cover is also not removable. However this may not be an issue given the type of fabric used. It measures about 5 inches deep.
As I said it is a little firmer than the Brentwood Home foam dog bed. Below is an illustration of how it would handle motion transfer.
Dogs (most dogs) and cats don’t weigh as much as humans so having a 5 inch thick mattress should give proper support. I like that this bed didn’t creep up towards each end as some dog beds can do. Below is a picture of our dog, Dottie on the mattress. Notice it has a nice clean look.
The Ooroo foam dog bed is easy to fold up and looks great in its case. You can sit on on it when it is folded up. It measures about 12.5 inches when folded.
You can make the top cushion lay on the floor when it is a dog bed so that guest don’t have to sit on pet hair. Or if you want to get fancy, just put it in the case it comes with. The case also has a handle for portability.
Conclusion
The Ooroo is a top notch foam dog bed or even cat bed for that matter. What like about it is that it’s light yet supportive for my old dog and can be used as a spare ottoman when company is over. When taking some of these shots, I had to try and get my dog off the Ooroo, she really took to it. If you have a dog that prefers a little firmer bed, this is it.

Brentwood home gets rave reviews on Amazon for their memory foam mattresses but they also make many other products including pet beds. The Brentwood Home Orthopedic Pet bed uses some of the same foam found in their mattresses which is good news for your pet.
Ordering your Brentwood Home Dog Bed
Similar to the Brentwood home mattresses, you can order the pet beds from Amazon. However, if order direct from their website and use the exclusive code SLEEPSHERPA you get an instant 15% off. Shipping is fast and you can expect the bed within a week from ordering. Right now you also get free monogramming with your pet’s name. It comes shrink wrapped so the box it comes in isn’t all that big.
Construction of the Brentwood Home Dog Bed
The Brentwood Home pet beds are made with a washable cover and waterproof lining. The embroidering comes free for a limited time. It’s a really nice touch!
The dog bed is constructed with two layers. A base layer of foam and a soft squishy layer of cooling gel foam .
My Brentwood Home Dog Bed Findings
Our dog, Dottie is a Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix. She’s getting old (14 yrs old in this pic) so we were concerned that her old pet bed that didn’t even measure an inch thick just wasn’t giving her the needed support.
Dottie took to the bed immediately and seems to be sleeping just fine on it. Because her breed sheds a lot, it’s nice that the cover can be washed.
The bottom of the dog bed has a non stick surface so it wont go traveling on smooth surfaces.
These dogs beds come in 3 sizes (small, medium and large) I ordered the large size but could have easily gone with a medium for a border collie.
The fabric goes well with the rest of the furniture in our living room and doesn’t stand out. Given we have a small house this is a good thing.
Just for fun and because I’m such a mattress geek, I did my standard testing on this pet bed. I thought it would give you a sense of what to expect in terms of firmness and feel. Some dogs love soft and some not so much so this will hopefully help in your decision making.
Notice that there also isn’t much motion transfer although I don’t expect Dottie to have sleep overs anytime soon…
Final thoughts on the Brentwood Home Dog Bed
The foam is on the firmer side so it’s not like traditional memory foam. If your pet likes sleeping on a more pillowy surface you may want to look elsewhere. However, this is a great looking bed that my dog uses daily! I recommend purchasing directly from Brentwood Home to get the best price, the full trial period and the option of embroidering.
