I honestly didn’t expect this vaccuum to pick up so much stuff. It was a little shocking and I am super glad I received one. I am now going to start having staff clean our mattresses on a weekly basis using this vaccuum.

I didn’t realize how dirty a mattress can actually get. I normally recommend a mattress protector to keep you mattress clean. However a mattress protector can affect the feel of a mattress, especially dense foam mattresses that are known for excellent contouring. So if you want to to go without a mattres protector to get the full feel of your mattress, I would strongly advise investing in this device to keep you mattress sanitary.

I was given a Bedjet V2 Climate Control system with Biorhythm Sleep Technology. I first became aware of the Bedjet through the show Shark Tank on NBC. The Bedjet blows conditioned air under your sheets to keep you cool or warm. My Bedjet Findings
Setting up the Bedjet was much easier than I thought it would be. I actually delayed installing it thinking it would be a chore. It is super simple. You basically just plug it in then connect the hose to the end of your bed and power it on. Not only is it easy to setup but it also is easy to take down and store. If you only want to use it in the summer or winter, it won’t take up much space under your bed.

To install it to your bed, all you need to do is put the plastic mounting bracket underneath your mattress then attach the hose to the bracket. notice that I can fit the entire system underneath my bed. If your bed is too low, you can get a bracket to mount the system horizontally so that it takes up less space.

So, how does it work? Once setup, you can control how warm or cool you want to make your bed. I tried the cooling feature right away and found relief in under a minute. During the Summer I still like to have at least a sheet covering me but the drawback is that it traps heat. The Bedjet can subtly blow cool air into your bed so that you will feel cool but get the comfort and security that a blanket provides.
Even if you have air conditioning you may find that your face can get cold while your body heats up under the sheets. The Bedjet helps to keep the temperature inside your bed more consistent with the outside temperature when you want to cool down.
Conversely, the heating option will warm you up where you need it most, your feet! An article published in the scientific journal Nature found that warm feet will promote the rapid onset of sleep. Since this device sits at the foot of your bed, your feet will be the first to warm up.

My Bedjet Recommendation
Having used many other products that help cool or heat your bed, I think the Bedjet is one of the best solutions for people that tend to sleep hot. Mattress manufacturers will add cooling gel or phase change technology to a mattress to help draw away heat but that is sometimes a temporary effect. The Bedjet keeps things cool between the sheets but it doesn’t feel like a fan is blowing right on you unless you put it at the highest setting. When white noise, or a similar sound, is added to your sleeping environment, you are using a principal that is known as sound masking. Instead of drowning out the sounds that are keeping you awake, the frequencies of the white noise signal “masks” them.
White noise machines produce a sound that masks the external sounds that prevent you from falling asleep. Studies have shown that these machines can benefit problem sleepers. If you prefer, you can also use nature sounds, etc. the same way you use white noise so that you can relax and drift off to sweet slumber.
Other White Noise Solutions
If you would rather not spend money on a white noise machine, there are other ways to create white noise, such as:
- A fan: If you have a standard table fan at home, you can use it to mask external sounds. Its whirr is quite ideal for sound masking.
- An old boom box or radio: Anything that comes with an FM tuner should work well. Just break the antenna or dial in between stations to create pink noise, which is a variant of white noise that has been shown to work effectively as a sleep aid.
- An app: A smartphone is one of the easiest ways to try out white noise to help you sleep. You will find countless apps – both free and paid – that are designed to help improve your sleep. However, keep in mind that some free apps use low-quality sounds that could turn out to be irritating rather than soothing and relaxing.
White noise machines are an excellent investment if you have a serious sleeping problem and do not want to depend on sleeping pills. As mentioned, there are numerous types of white noise machines to suit any budget, so you will definitely find the right one to help you sleep. Say goodbye to sleepless nights.

If you have SAD (seasonal affective disorder) or just crave sunlight in the depths of winter, you’re not alone. An effective way to combat the symptoms of SAD is through light therapy. I recently received a set of Lucimed Luminette light therapy glasses to help combat the symptoms of SAD. I received them in January and they couldn’t have come at a better time as we are now in the depths of winter in Minnesota and there is very little daylight.

So how did the Luminette glasses work? They are easy to operate and effective for me too! I keep them by my nightstand so that I can put them on in the morning. I make sure to charge them every night but if I skip a day it doesn’t matter as the battery will last. I like that I can go about my tasks in the morning without having to be parked near a dedicated light. You don’t need to wear them for long. About 20-30 minutes is plenty to get you the benefits. Side sleepers sometimes have issues with sore knees when they sleep. This is because their knees often lay on top of each other without any padding. A common solution to this is using a pillow in between your legs as a cushion. However, pillows are often too big and too thick which leads to a different kind of discomfort.

I don’t often sleep on my side as I’m more of a stomach sleeper. However when if I take a short nap in the afternoon, I try to sleep on my side. This prevents me from getting too cozy and reluctant to get out of bed. I tried this pillow during a nap and found it easy to put on. It has a velcro strap that you wrap around your leg. I found it to be comfortable over my jeans and expect it would be just as comfortable over pajamas. I think wearing on my bare leg would take some getting used to.
Here’s a photo that shows the velcro strap. Notice that the pillow isn’t all that big which is the main selling point. The goal is to not notice it while you’re sleeping. Also, because it’s attached to your knee, you don’t need to move it with you when you change positions. This is a problem if you use a regular pillow.

If you are considering making the leap from an inner spring to memory foam mattress you need make sure that you have a proper frame that will support you and the weight of the mattress adequately over time. A frame I highly recommend is the Ironwood Bed Frame. It is very sturdy yet portable and super easy to assemble. The frame arrives in a box not much bigger than a typical bed in a box. This means if you have narrow hallways to get through, you can maneuver easily and setup the frame inside the room.

I recently wrote about the Danican mattress and it’s superior cooling properties. The Danican company also makes mattress and pillow protectors as part of their bedding ensemble. The Danican Nature Protect pillow protector is made from a blend of bamboo and cotton. The bamboo gives it an extra soft feel and helps the protector to breath, keeping you cool. It’s machine washable and just screams quality. It is dust mite, allergen and bed bug proof.
One frustration I have with cheap pillow protectors is that they can be noisy due to the use of cheap plastics or it feels like you are sleeping on a rubber sheet and wake up sweaty. The Danican pillow protector is not noisy at all. It also has a very nice zipper along the length of the pillow making it easy to wash and put back on.
A nice use beyond having a pillow protector at home is to use it for travel. One reason I don’t sleep well at hotels is that in the back of my mind I’m wondering how clean the pillows are. I have a 4 year old son who is a great sleeper, once you get him to sleep. Our bedtime ritual has never been easy or consistent. Our 7 year old daughter knows the drill and for the most part will brush teeth and put on pajamas without much fuss. If you’re a frequent flyer or road tripper, you will find that a simple sleep mask just wont do. You often need noise blocking in addition to light blocking. Enter the Dreamcatcher and Nap Star. I’ll admit it, at first I was very skeptical. A hat that puts you to sleep? Measure’s your brain waves? Say what? When I showed it to my wife she started laughing. It wasn’t until I started reading more about this invention that I grew interested in conducting a Sleep Shepherd Review

The Sleep Shepherd was created out of necessity. Apparently Michael’s daughter was having trouble sleeping and it was affecting other parts of her life. As any parent knows, having your child take any prescription drugs can be worrisome due to potential side effects.
How it Works
The Sleep Shepherd has sensors inside that read your brain waves in real time and can detect if they correlate to an awake state or sleeping state and then guides them to a lower frequency which is induces sleepiness.
The sound is a sort of medium pitched tone that gives you a sort of rocking sensation as you turn it on and lay down. I turned the volume high enough that I could hear it clearly but that it wasn’t so loud that it distracted me from relaxing. It may take a couple nights to find your optimal volume. I have been wearing this for the past week now and have noticed that sometimes it will last longer than 20 minutes. However, to get a more thorough review, I had my wife and a friend try the device and report back on their experience.
My friend really likes it. He is also a mechanical engineer and thought it was a sound product, lol. My wife eventually came around to the idea of wearing a device like this after she saw me wearing it. She likes it too and we both notice a sort of rocking sensation when it is on. Sort of like someone is rocking you to sleep. It’s reassuring to know that it also turns itself off after you fall asleep. No need to worry about wearing out the batter prematurely or waking up to an unfamiliar sound.
The one minor concern I have is that the LED light can be a bit bright in a dark room. To remedy this, I just put a piece of electrical tape over it. However, a future version of the product may want to include some sort of built in cover that can be opened and closed as needed. As the person wearing it you won’t notice it much but your partner may get annoyed depending on your sleep position.
If you suffer from insomnia or just have trouble falling asleep within a reasonable amount of time at night, this could be a game changer for you. I occasionally take melatonin to help me fall asleep but I am always on the look out for an all natural sleep aid. I notice if I take melatonin for 2 or 3 consecutive days I build up a tolerance. While searching for innovative travel pillows, I stumbled across a product called, Nap Anywhere. It’s not really even a pillow, instead, its a sort of cushioned head rest that allows you to rest your head to the side without relying on a wall or some external support. It came with a some really cool packaging…
The Nap Anywhere device comes flat and to make it work you need to bend it in two directions so that one side rests on your shoulder and the other on your neck.
Bending it was easy, it doesn’t require much strength and the beauty of it is that it can be bent flat again for convenient storage. It also comes with a neat little storage case.
To make the Nap Anywhere secure, it comes with a shoulder strap that you wear like a seat belt. This prevents it from shifting or falling off if you move your head.

The Nap Anywhere takes a little getting used to. Allow yourself some time to learn how to set it up properly. You won’t want to try and figure this out while on a plane or in a car. It’s best to have the room to spread out and make sure everything is aligned for your needs.
Once you have it all setup though, it does make for a nice experience. I would recommend this product for side and stomach sleepers, not so much back sleepers for obvious reasons. The Nap Anywhere is the perfect solution for getting comfortable in the middle seat of an airplane. I can never rest just lying straight back. Inevitably my head flops to one side and I end up jerking myself awake or make the person next to me really uncomfortable.
Like I said it takes some getting used to but definitely give it some time. If you are a frequent traveler, this could be the solution for you to finally get some quality rest.
For road travelers, its much nicer that placing your head against the side of a moving car or bus. Your head wont be bouncing against a glass window the whole time and your hair wont be a mess either!
My overall Nap Anywhere review recommendation is that this product is ideal for a traveler that likes to sleep on their side and wants to sleep against something. Sleeping against the side of an airplane or car can be hard on your neck as you are putting some of your body weight against it. The Nap Anywhere eliminates this problem and is more comfortable.

Ever since Christmas 2014 I have been enjoying my Acupressure mat from HemingWeigh. This acupressure mat is made up of tiny sets of plastic spikes that don’t pierce your skin. The HemingWeigh model also comes with a head rest although I wouldn’t recommend using that right away until you acclimate to the regular mat. An acupressure mat is designed to promote circulation and relaxation. When I first used it, I lied down on it with a t-shirt on since I was afraid that the spikes would hurt too much. Most sites I have come across recommend using an Acupressure mat for about 15-25 minutes per session.
When you first lie down on the mat you feel an acute sharp poking pain. However, after about 5 minutes your body starts to release endorphins to deal with the pain. At this point you may notice a sort of warming sensation in your back. The pain will dissipate and you will start feeling relaxed. I try not to focus on anything and just let the mat do its work. After about 4 sessions I was able to graduate to using the head rest but you need to make sure its positioned properly to get the full benefit. I wouldn’t say there really all that much benefit to the head rest but it is a nice option if you don’t want your head on the floor.
I stay on my mat for 25 minutes at a time usually at night after I workout and after a shower. I find that lying on the mat help with recovery from my workouts and makes me fall asleep much faster. I’m not sure why that is but if you read through the reviews on Amazon.com you’ll find that many people get this benefit which is why I’m listing in on Sleepsherpa.com.
The HemingWeigh mat also comes with a carrying case which is nice if you are going somewhere that you know has uncomfortable sleeping conditions. For maximum benefit you may want to turn on some relaxing tunes and get some aromatherapy going along with a dim, blueblocking light. All this together would make an ideal relaxation/sleep environment.
This is my first Acupressure mat review and I may be reviewing other mats in the future but given the price and the results you get for that price, I think you’ll be hard pressed to find anything better.
I should also not that when looking at other Acupressure Mat reviews, some reviewers have mentioned that the spike pattern on the mats doesn’t differ. So there really aren’t any options for changing the pattern that I’m aware of. The HemingWeigh Acupressure mat is the highest reviewed acupressure mat on Amazon right now and one of the most affordable!

It is now well documented that screen time at night before bed is bad for quality sleep. Staring at a screen, no matter how small, will emit blue light that tells your body to stay awake. Wearing the Melatonin Shades, my body does not get that message which makes it that much easier to sleep.
So why not just take a melatonin pill instead? I do use melatonin pills on an occasional basis but the effects of long term usage aren’t really known and I am hesitant to use sleeping supplements habitually.
The Melatonin Shades should provide the same benefits. As a plus, it’s a one time cost as opposed to pills that you consume.
The Melatonin Shades themselves are very comfortable and they make everything have a yellow tinge to it. They are perfectly appropriate for using your laptop or phone but I probably wouldn’t want to watch TV for an extended period of time with them.
I can see these glasses being very useful for people who work overnight shifts and need to start their sleep routine during daylight hours.
So far I am very happy with the Melatonin Shades and recommend them to people who just can’t part with their electronics in the bedroom.

Coming soon to an app store near you, a device that can detect when and how often you snore at night. Device records snores to track sleep | Fox News. Snoring apps are the new sleeping apps. Specifically designed to listen to and record your snoring while you sleep. Preliminary reviews say that these snoring apps aren’t that sophisticated and that if you have something like a fan on or are near traffic it won’t work. I would give it a few years before these are ready for prime time.
As an alternative to an app or even snoring app for that matter, you may want to consider the Beddit or Resmed S+, these are stand alone, non-wearable sleep tracking devices. The beddit goes underneath your sheets and automatically tracks your sleep which includes restlessness, heart beats per minute, breaths per minute (which could help track snoring) and the amount of times you got out of bed.
The Resmed S+ has all of the same features as the Beddit except that it sits on your night stand. Each have a phone app for you to track your data as well. With this technology, you will get a more accurate picture of your sleep quality as opposed to a stand alone app.

If you live anywhere a bit north or south of the equator you can understand how lack of sunlight can affect your sleep schedule. I live in Minnesota where the sun sets around 5pm during most of the winter. That means that you are usually going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. Too much of this routing will inevitably lead to changes in mood and energy levels. You can also get this same side effect from traveling to different time zones where your body has to adjust to local time. A common problem among business travelers.
To remedy this, I have purchased a “Happy Light” which I would sit in front of for about half an hour each morning, or at least try to. Usually I am way too busy with getting the kids out the door and trying to get to work on time to spare another half our to sit tethered in front of a light.
Enter the Re-Timer. It’s works just as effectively if not more so than a happy light and it can be worn just like a regular pair of glasses. UV free light unobtrusively beams right to where your body needs it the most to get you energized and back on schedule. Since it’s portable, I’m much more likely to put them on and can even use them in bed while my wife is still sleeping without waking her up as well. We’re getting close to the Winter Solstice and I am feeling the full effects of SAD (seasonal affective disorder). This past week I have had an insatiable appetite, especially for carbohydrates. In fact, I bought a box of donuts on impulse on the drive home from work a few days ago and ate 3 that night. I’m lethargic and have a short temper.
Thankfully I remembered the re timer. I used it this morning at 6am for 20 minutes in bed. It’s very convenient and doesn’t light up the entire room so that your significant other can still seep. It’s amazing how dark it really gets this time of year in Minnesota. It took me a little while just to tolerate the light near my eyes let alone wear the glasses. After 20 minutes I turned them off and the room looked pitch black.
It takes about 4 days for the effects of the re timer to kick in so I am going to do this all weekend. I’m also going to keep to a consistent sleep time which will also help with energy levels.
