Brentwood Home Oceano Mattress Review

The Brentwood Home Oceano is a luxury hybrid mattress that is known for its comfort, support, and eco-friendly materials. The Oceano has a number of features that make it a popular choice for mattress shoppers. I recently received a free Oceano mattress for review. This is one of 300 or so mattresses that I have been given since starting Yawnder. Out of all the mattresses, I have tested so far, the Oceano mattress from Brentwood Home is by far one of the premier luxury mattresses online. The quality of the material that you get for the price is outstanding. With the Oceano, Brentwood has brought the online mattress space to new highs. I have tried other spring mattresses including the Duxiana which can cost up to $10,000 and I actually prefer the Oceano. Read on to learn why.

Ordering and Unboxing the Brentwood Home Oceano

You can order this mattress from Amazon or direct from Brentwood Home. I strongly recommend purchasing directly from Brentwood Home. You will get the best price and their industry-leading 1 year trial where if you don’t like it during the first year of purchase, they will pick it up for free along with a full refund. Brentwood has a dedicated customer service team and is a big enough company where they will respond to you promptly with any concerns.

Upon unboxing there is a product brochure that highlights some of the bedding accessories you can also purchase from Brentwood Home. I really like their linen blanket which is perfect for Spring and Fall.

Below is a video that gives an overview of the mattress. It comes in a box that is delivered to your door via UPS or FedEx. No need to give up a chunk of your day waiting for a truck to arrive.

Specifications of the Oceano Mattress

inside the oceano mattress

This is not a simple 3 layer foam mattress. It is a sophisticated system that gives you that luxurious feel which is rare right now in boxed mattresses. Below are the specifications:

  • Medium feel. Belgian 4-way stretch knit with a spacious, pillowy quilt design lined with New Zealand wool that wicks away moisture, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as a natural fire barrier
  • 4-inch top pocket of 1353 individually wrapped micro coils provide comfort and support
  • Contouring layer of gel memory foam offers pressure relief and spinal support while the 796 individually wrapped base coils sit in 5 zones to support every inch of your body where you need it most
  • Hand-tufted wool rosettes secure layers without the use of adhesives that might block airflow. 6 upholstered handles to easily move or adjust your bed without the hassle
  • CertiPUR-US Certified free of unhealthy chemicals, including harmful fire retardants, phthalates, and heavy metals. 25-year limited warranty

It’s important to note that the queen size weighs 113 lbs. Considering the average queen size boxed mattress I receive is around 65 lbs, this is quite a step up.

How Much Does the Brentwood Home Oceano Mattress Cost?

Below are the current prices of the mattress in all sizes.

  • Twin: $995
  • Twin XL: $1,095
  • Full: $1,295
  • Queen: $1,495
  • King: $1,995
  • California King: $1,995

My Oceano Findings

I’ve never been a big fan of micro coils. Usually, they just don’t do anything. They usually completely collapse and do nothing to provide support or bounce. However, Brentwood got it right this time. The micro-coils in the Oceano create a contouring support that helps you float on the mattress while still giving you a nice hug. This is exactly how a euro-top should feel. The coils help the top recover faster and provide superior pressure relief than a simple foam euro-top. You also won’t get pulled into the middle with your partner half-way through the night like some of the cheaper euro top mattresses.

Here’s a clip illustrating the bounce on the Oceano. It has good bounce without much motion transfer. The pocket coils isolate movement because they all work independently and the foam also absorbs quite a bit of energy. Added to that, the tufting on the mattress further lessens motion transfer. The 4-way stretch fabric on the top of the mattress won’t pull from the other side of the mattress either. It’s a lot of little things that make a big difference.

This mattress is hand-tufted. Not only does this make the mattress look great but it also helps with breathability by creating small channels for air to circulate while you sleep. The tufting method also eliminated the need for glue. Instead, the threads keep all the material in place which makes for a more natural mattress.

Speaking of natural, because this mattress uses springs as a base layer instead of a foam layer, it is more eco-friendly. Foam bases use much more fossil fuels than coil systems. Additionally, coil systems are more breathable and sleep cooler than their foam counterparts.

Below is a picture of the mattress right after unboxing. The small wrinkles eventually go away, this is due to it being compressed in a box. Notice the tufting and the stitched handles which are available on all sides of the mattress. Brentwood also uses furniture-grade upholstery for the border.

oceano mattress

Here’s what it looks like after a couple days.

Brentwood Home Oceano MattressThis mattress also has great edge support. The Oceano has an 8-inch 5-zone Quantum®Edge Combi-Zone® Coil System from Leggett & Platt. This is a pocket coil system that was designed for great edge support so you won’t feel like you’re going to roll off the mattress. Here’s a description of the system from the manufacturer:

Quantum® Edge forms a frame around select ComfortCore® units, providing a better edge than foam, reducing or eliminating that roll-off feeling, and delivering a consistent sleep surface.

• Proven 26% more durable than foam encasements.
• On adjustable bases, Quantum Edge bends an average of 24% easier than foam encasements, which means less wear and tear on moving parts.

Here’s a picture of the Quantum Edge corner. Notice the perimeter of smaller, firmer coils around the edge to provide extra support.

My Brentwood Home Oceano Recommendation

A queen size Oceano retails for $1,495 which is an excellent value considering all the features of this mattress. You would be hard-pressed to find a better mattress at this price point.

If you buy a twin size you will want to take advantage of their $175 off offer which is coupon code: “LA175” but if you buy anything larger use the coupon code Sleepsherpa15 to get a better deal with 15% off.

Brentwood Home exudes the laid-back California vibe. It is both elegant and comfortable. Brentwood makes all their mattresses factory-direct in Los Angeles and they take pride in what they do. Luxury does not have to mean expensive and Brentwood has proven that with their flagship mattress, the Oceano.

The Oceano is also a top pick among customers in the Yawnder Mattress Showroom in San Diego.

Mattresses Similar to the Brentwood Home Oceano

Here are some options based on different key features:

Similar feel and construction:

    • Saatva Classic Mattress: Like the Oceano, it’s a hybrid with innerspring coils for bounce and support, and multiple foam layers for comfort and pressure relief. It also offers a medium-plush feel.
    • Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid Mattress: This is another luxury hybrid with a similar coil and foam construction, known for its excellent pressure relief and cooling properties. It has a slightly firmer feel than the Oceano.
    • Avocado Green Mattress: This organic hybrid mattress also uses coils and foam for a supportive yet plush sleeping experience. It stands out for its eco-friendly and natural materials, similar to the Oceano’s focus on sustainability.

Similar comfort for side sleepers:

    • Purple Hybrid Premier 4 Mattress: This mattress features a unique gel grid layer that conforms to your body and minimizes pressure points, making it ideal for side sleepers. It’s softer than the Oceano, but still supportive.
    • Tuft & Needle Hybrid Mattress: This more affordable hybrid offers good pressure relief and edge support, making it comfortable for side sleepers on a budget. However, it’s not as plush as the Oceano.
    • Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress: This mattress has multiple comfort layers designed for side sleepers, with targeted pressure relief for hips and shoulders. It’s slightly firmer than the Oceano, but still offers good sinkage.

Similar eco-friendly focus:

    • Saatva Zenhaven Latex Mattress: Made entirely of natural latex, this mattress offers excellent pressure relief and bounce without any synthetic materials. It’s on the firmer side compared to the Oceano.
    • Layla Hybrid Mattress: This mattress uses both memory foam and recycled coils, along with organic cotton cover, reducing its environmental impact. It has a medium-firm feel with good conforming abilities.
    • Nolah Signature 15 Mattress: This bed features a plant-based, cooling foam and recycled content in its cover, making it a sustainable option. It’s a medium-firm mattress with good edge support.

Remember, firmness and comfort are subjective, so trying out different mattresses in person or using virtual showrooms is always recommended. Consider your budget, sleeping style, and specific needs when making your final decision.

  1. We recently went from a pure nature bliss blended talalay latex ‘nature’ queen mattress, which we found to be a little too firm after a couple of years use, to a king winkbed and after two months find it’s also just a little too firm also. I’m looking for similar support but more comfort/plushness and considering going back to latex again. The Brentwood Mirador vs Zenhaven keep popping to the top of my list. The only other one being considered is the Brentwood Oceano, which is kind of similar to the Winkbed we already have, but maybe a little more plush/comfortable. I’m 220lbs and the boss is 125lbs, and we sleep in all positons….any recommendations?

    • The Oceano will be more plush than a latex and the Winkbed. Definitely worth trying. It is truly a luxury bed.

      • Hi Ben,
Just wondering if I should go with the Brentwood Oceano. I like the fact that it is good for both side sleepers and back sleepers. I am a dedicated side sleeper and my spouse is a back/stomach sleeper. And I like the notion of the matress being made with organic materials (for the most part). We have a 12 year old Bueatyrest Pillow top that is good and worn. Ww have slept on a newer Sealy Posturpedic Copper II (purchased 3 years ago one for my daughter’s guest room for us to sleep on!) and I generally like that “sinking” in feeling. My spouse feels it is too soft and is not crazy about a “sinking in ” felling. I was hoping that the Brentwood would be a good compromise. What do you think? Do you have other suggestions? We want to be ready to make a purchase during the Black Friday sales period. It is daunting to buy a mattress without trying it out (and we are no where close to Minneapolois). Thank you for your wonderful reviews and the referral coupon–15% is a great savings!
        Best, Ellen

      • Hi and hopefully you can help with my organic/natural bed decision for my 11 year old daughter. She currently weighs 70 pounds and realistically will never be more then 110 as she has slight frame and is very thin. Looking at Oceono, Winkbed and Saatva in queen size. They all roughly same price. She sleeps mostly on her stomach and sometimes her side. Definitely don’t want too firm a bed or and something with a soft/plush feeling. I like the plush option on the Saatva for her but am drawn by your reviews and overall quality of the Oceono. Your thoughts?
Thanks and your site is great!

  2. How would you compare this with the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid? Based on trying out the BeautyRest Black at Mattress Firm, these seem the most similar at less than half the price.

    Reply
    • You’re right! They are both very well constructed mattresses. The Beautyrest black has a bit more layers to it but they both have a phase change fabric cover. I think the Mariela would be closest in feel to the Alexander Signature Hybrid but that one retails for $2,799. The Tatiana is their flaghsip Beautyrest Black model and it has microcoils and enhanced edge support but that costs $4,999. People that visit the Yawnder Showroom in Minneapolis really like the Alexander Hybrid.

    • The Oceano will feel more like a traditional inner spring. It has microcoils on top of the pocket coil system so you get extra cushioning from it.

  3. How does the Oceano compare to Brentwood’s Mirador that has latex and microcoils? How would the support differ or the luxury feel that you noted on the Oceano?

    Reply
    • The Mirador will be a little softer than the Oceano and give you a bit more hug too. However it won’t be as bouncy as the Oceano. The Oceano will feel more like a traditional luxury mattress.

  4. My wife and I are looking for a new king size bed. Currently we have a Beautyrest, and we’ve always had a mattress with coils in it in some form or fashion which we’ve bought locally. We did have a laytex/memory foam bed once, but that was a bad overall experience…from quality, customer service and longevity stand point. Plus we noticed that it was much “hotter” to sleep on which was a huge drawback. We are both mainly side sleepers (but I know question if this is because our bodies have adapted to sleeping on poor quality beds). Nonetheless we sleep mainly on our sides and occasionally our backs and rarely on our stomachs. We are both tired of purchasing “quality” beds only to have them sag in less than a few years…maybe our expectation levels are too high. I kind of miss the old days of being able to flip a bed to the other side to get even wear, but those days are long gone. We want to venture out into the on-line market and like everything you have to say about Brentwood beds. We’re torn between the Oceano and Sequoia. How do these compare? Any insight would be appreciated.

    Reply
    • The Oceano is an amazing mattress, it will feel substantially softer than the Sequoia. The Sequoia has latex and will probably not be a good fit for you. The Ocean feels like a well made traditional mattress. It will sleep cooler than foam and just feels wonderful.

  5. After trying and returning the Alexander Signature (medium and soft versions), the Nest Bedding Cool Sleeper, and most recently, the Loom & Leaf, I just ordered the Oceano based on your review, as it seems to have made a significant impression on you based on your extensive experience. I’m hoping I finally get the pressure point relief in my hips (as a side sleeper) that I’ve been looking for. L&M was the best of the 4 mattresses, but still fell short in relieving hip pressure points in the “sprinter” side/stomach sleeping position. I have a feeling the Oceano will do the trick nicely. Thank you!!

    • Hi Dennis. Since you are a new owner of the Oceano, how do you like it thus far? I’m curious because we are comparing it to the Alexander Hybrid (which you tried and returned). Also, is there much motion transfer? We just purchased the saatva luxury firm and its going back…too firm and too much motion transfer. Thank you!

      Reply
    • Dennis, how did the Oceano work out for you? I’m in the exact same situation having tried both the medium and soft Alexander and not sleeping comfortably on either one. Currently debating trying the Oceano or Mirador. Any input would be appreciated!

      Reply
    • We tried the Oceano as a side sleeping couple. 190/130 pounds respectively. We are coming from a 100% latex foam mattress that caused great deal of hip, back, and shoulder pain.

The Oceano has been much better for back and hip pain but shoulder pain is still there. Actually my arm falls asleep alot on this bed. The bed sleeps much coooler than the latex bed previous but I wouldn’t call it cold….but we are in texas and summers are warm and humid even with AC running.

We contacted Brentwood Home and their solution was to to buy their $150 mattress topper to make it softer. This was an expensive mattress already and adding another $150 on top seems silly financially when there could be better options. We will be returning the Oceano and likley trying the Luuf mattress (soft). I think the mattresses with 2 layers of coils will “push” back towards your body more than mattresses having a thicker foam layer on top before the coils below.

      Reply
      • Hi Alex
I have the Luuf medium and it’s causing slight hip pressure ( 135 lb dedicated side sleeper). It’s a very nice mattress and I think you will be happy with the soft version. It’s just a little too hot for me

        Reply
    • Hi Dennis,

Any feedback on Oceano so far? Exactly the same issue here. I am 190 and 6’2″. Major problem area for me is hip pressure points. Within 2K all points to L&M, Nest ASH and Brentwood Oceano. I feel like cushioning and pressure relief are two different measurements and it is really difficult to discern what would be best for hip pressure point for mostly side sleepers. So any feedback on Oceano you can get us would be super helpful. Thank you!

  6. How would the Oceano or Mirador compare to the Brooklyn Bedding BME Medium? Does it feel softer with more pressure relief? Thanks

    Reply
    • I can’t speak for the Mirador right now since I haven’t slept on it yet but the Oceano will feel softer and in my opinion gives better pressure relief in large part to the coil system.

  7. I am looking for a good luxary mattress that doesn’t tend to get hot. I tried an all natural mattress (morgongava) from ikea and it was terrible (way to soft and I ended up with back & neck pain after first few nights sleep). I have a medium firm bed now but it is over ten years old. (its a natural mattress pad, on a bed base & mattress in one, old ikea bed). I sleep mainly on my side and sometimes stomach and back. I normally lay on a body pillow. I am looking for a medium firm but soft bed that doesn’t get hot. I have looked at all your reviews on the Purple, winkbed, active X and the brentwood oceano. I also reviewed what people said online on amazon for all of them except active x. I am leaning towards the brentwood oceano but need your thoughts on what might be best for me. I do have some problems (migraines, herniated disc, neck and back pain at times).

    • Hi Jillian,

All these mattresses have very different feels. The Oceano will feel like a luxury mattress is supposed to. It will hug you and give great support. Since it has coils and microcoils, it will breathe better than an all foam mattress. The Purple you sleep “on” instead of “in” so you won’t get the cozy feeling with the Purple.

  8. My husband and I are trying to decide between the Oceano and Mirador mattresses and wanted to know the main differences between the two. We are wanting to go as natural/low emission as possible, but also want to have high end luxury comfort. My husband is 220 and I’m around 105 so I also tend to roll onto his side with our current mattress, so we want to avoid this if possible. We prefer medium to firm, but to be honest we are not really sure exactly what our preferences are since we’ve had the same mattress forever. Also with these mattresses do we need to use a boxspring?

    Reply
    • Hi Ashley,

I haven’t slept on the Mirador yet. Given the construction though I would expect it to feel a little firmer than the Oceano. The Oceano has been a top seller in my Minneapolis Showroom. Everyone seems to gravitate towards it and many end up purchasing it.

      Reply
    • The Oceano will feel much more plush than the Saatva luxury firm. So in that case it’s a matter of preference. The other difference is that the Oceano uses pocket coils which allows it to be used on an adjustable base. It also comes in a box which makes it easier to get in your house. The Saatva cannot be used on an adjustable base and is shipped through a shipping service.

      • I had the Stava classic Hybrid and it was the plush It was great to keep my spine in alignment and pressure relief for my hips but it jammed my shoulder and neck which is still in pain. Will the Ociana Mattress by firmer feel and could it cause my shoulders and neck to jam and be in pain? Just one thing the Saavta does work with their lineal adjustable base. If you can please answer me as the sale is nearing the end and I want to order the Ocean because of my chemical sensitivities.

  9. By “feel more plush” do you mean “soft” or do you mean more “embracing?” The last thing we want is a soft mattress, as we are both 90% side sleepers. Also, price is not a major consideration, but we find it hard to justify $4,000 and up mattresses.

    Reply
    • Embracing is probably a better term to use. You won’t get that sinking feeling you get with an all foam mattress. You also don’t get the problems associated with pillow top mattresses. This is in large part due to the fact that they use a layer of microcoils instead of an extra layer of foam. It is also hand tufted which keeps all the materials in place and won’t tug at each other.

  10. Hey Ben, appreciate all your work on this site and I’m now seriously considering the Oceano (Tried Ghostbed and #BME however neither did the trick).

How would you compare the Oceano vs the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid? Will one sleep cooler, offer better support for side / back sleepers, etc?

    Reply
    • Both the Oceano and Alexander Hybrid are great mattresses. However they have distinctly different feels. The Alexander Hybrid has 6 inches of foam on the top layer while the Oceano has 2 inches of foam and underneath that they use micro coils. Below that that both have pocket coil systems. The Oceano is hand tufted with a cotton cover while the Alexander has a phase change fabric for cooling. The Oceano will give you more of a traditional luxury mattress feel. With the Alexander you can feel more of the foam. Both offer excellent support for side sleepers and do well with motion transfer. I think the Oceano gives you more hug and is easier to change positions in.

      • Someone above mentioned they may be afraid it is too soft because they are both side sleepers. While it is subjective, don’t most want a plush mattress to medium or even more, i.e. being too soft IN GENERAL isn’t normally the issue. I hope you understand my question, and am not saying the OP should like the mattress. Just wanna make sure I am on the right page, as I am a side sleeper and have had no support (or the opposite) with a medium mattress. Thank you

  11. Hi Ben, I can’t thank you enough for your help selecting a mattress that I’ll spend a third of my life using! The bed I’m replacing after 20+ years is a Cal King Duxiana 1001 with a 2” latex pad (I didn’t like their “Pascal Spring Cartridge” system) and I’m considering the Oceano, Miador, and the Del Mar by Brentwood. I am 6’4″ 190 lbs side sleeper and recently have been experiencing hip & shoulder pains . I liked the cushion firmness I had when my bed was in good shape (which resembles a Miador and the use of natural latex as padding) but think someone with a 65 year old body might be better with more cushion say in the Oceano. It seems a close call between these two. I would appreciate your recommendation, thanks Steve.

    • I think you will really appreciate the feel of the Oceano. It is the most substantial mattress in a box. It is so big it barely makes it through the roll packing machine. It has a layer of cooling gel foam that provides better pressure relief and more conforming than latex.

  12. I went to mattress firm and tried a beautyrest black jennings, and holy moly that was comfortable. Loved the cooling fabric too. Hate the price tag. How would the oceano compare? I see they both have microcoils. But the oceano only has 2 inches of foam over the coils and the jennings i think has 4…can you feel the coils on the oceano? I’m a side sleeper suffering from terrible back, hip, and shoulder pain sleeping on my 8 year old firm durango mattress with a 3 inch gel memory foam topper. Also looking at alexander hybrid, but overall confused!

    Reply
    • You can’t feel the coils in the Oceano. According to the Mattress Firm website, the Beautyrest Black Jennings is listed at $3,749.99 for a queen size. The Brentwood Home Oceano is less than half that. The Oceano also has cooling gel foam and is hand tufted so less glue needs to be used and more breathability.

The Alexander Hybrid has 6 inches of memory foam and also has a phase change cooling fabric. The Alexander is about a third the price of the Beautyrest Black Jennings. Both the Alexander and Oceano have free trial periods.

According to the Mattress firm website:

in the event you are not comfortable within 120 nights from original delivery, we will do our best to match you to the correct mattress. You may exchange or return your mattress with a small processing fee of $149.

So if you want to return the mattress you would be out $149.

    • A quick Google search for the Shiffman mattress brought up the following result. The Shiffman Ultimate Splendor California King. It retails for $35,739 and is hand made. Here’s the construction of the Shiffman mattress:

      72″W x 84″L x 17”H
      Comfort type: cushion firm
      Mattress type: innerspring
      Sleep style: combo
Comfort layers: two layers of cotton felt, 1.5 ” firm natural latex/pillow; 1″ plush Natural latex, 1 ” Progressive recovery natural latex, cashmere/silk/wool topper
High percentage of cotton and natural latex offer more durable comfort
      Hand-tufted cover
Two-sided pillow top for additional surface comfort
Edge construction: combination of steel and rigid foam
      Handmade

So instead of foam they use latex which will have more bounce but also feel firmer than foam. That’s also a lot to spend on a mattress. You could buy close to 20 Oceano mattresses for the price of the Shiffman.

      • Also wondering about the difference between Oceana and Shifman. I have a queen Shifman Monet, have had it for four years, and no problems. Just always on the search for perfection! i love the fact that the Shifman is “flippable,” adding years (I believe) to the life of the mattress. I’m 90 lbs. and a side sleeper. . . any advice?

  13. We originally ordered a Loom and Leaf Relaxed Firm but returned it after 3 weeks. Wife and I had never tried memory foam, and I think it just was not for us. Neither of us found it comfortable (too firm), and we didn’t like the feeling of being in a ditch when you changed sleep positions. Gave us both back pain. Also slept hot in spite of the marketing claims about cooling gel layers to keep it cool.

We went with the Brentwood Oceano, since we decided to focus on a spring bed and we wanted something more plush. Has only been a week, but so far we both love it. Has the ideal combination of support and softness for us. Very well-made bed and extremely comfortable. Only issue is the height – at 15″ high I may need to replace my standard foundation with something low-profile. Either that or buy a pole to help us vault into bed.

But in all seriousness I feel that the memory foam craze is overdone. A great spring mattress can be just as comfortable as memory foam without a lot of the negatives. The Oceano does have a gel memory foam layer on top which feels great with the microcoils underneath. Great mattress.

    • Hi Phil M,

I too had the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm which I returned and about to return the Nest Smarthouse bed that I am currently sleeping on – I sleep incredibly hot on both despite the marketing claims. After extensive research I thought a memory foam would be great for my neck and back pain but I have been shocked that I have even more lower back pain now than before! My hips sink in so much that it is causing a tremendous amount of strain and pain. In any case, I am looking at an innerspring bed, specifically the Brentwood Oceano and wondering how you are liking it so far?

I was considering a Charles P. Rogers Nano 2 bed but when I just called I learned that a return back to their factory/store in New Jersey from California would be $450. It’s too much of a risk without being able to try the bed.

I would love to hear from you and anyone else who has been sleeping on this bed, or another non-memory foam bed they currently love!

    • Hi Phil, Just curious are you guys more side sleepers, what are you weights? We are wondering if this one is soft enough to sleep on your side and take the pressure off your shoulders enough.

    • The Edge support is not as good as the Winkbed so just be aware of that. However I didn’t have any feelings like I as going to roll off or anything. You can certainly use the whole mattress. Some people find it lacking when they sit on the edge to put on shoes.

  14. I am looking for a side-sleeper mattress that will work with an antique bed frame.

The Brentwood site says the Oceano will work on top of a traditional box spring, while the Alexander site says their mattress won’t.

Do you have any advice about this issue and any other mattresses to consider?

    We are a 225 pounder and a 150 pounder.

    Reply
    • As long as you have a newer box spring it will work fine. By that I mean a box spring that doesn’t actually have a spring. Modern box spring are simply wood slat systems covered with fabric. You can always buy a new box spring from Amazon and put it on your antique frame.

      Reply
        • It will have some give to it causing the mattress to sag and ultimately not giving you proper support.

          Reply
          • Ben – you mention this would be fine on top of a “newer” box spring. Mine is 30 years old, how do I tell if it has springs or not? When I was at the sherpa showroom they said I could put it on a platform or on top of a box spring … but perhaps they didn’t realize how old my boxspring was! I was planning on keeping the existing bed and split Queen box spring (regular Queen boxspring could not make the turns on my staircase). if it has springs, would putting a bunkie board or something else on top of the existing box spring?

          • I would recommend just getting a new box spring. A bunkie board would work too but may be hard to fit in your frame.

  15. I am wondering what the comparison between This and a standard frame vs Purple and its new power base would be for someone on the mid to heavy weight person.

    Reply
    • Either should be just fine. Also, you can put the Oceano on an adjustable base too! It will work on the Purple adjustable bed.

  16. I’m trying to choose between the Oceano or the Mirador. I can’t seem to find anything about the Mirador. Do you have any experience with it?

    Reply
    • The Mirador will be a bit firmer and less conforming than the Oceano due to the latex instead of foam. The advantage of the Mirador is that it will recover a little faster than the Oceano.

  17. I’ve recently moved to a place with a very tiny bedroom so am considering going with a twin. I’m 5’2 approx 130 lbs and the Oceano sounds great but one question: in the past when I’ve slept on twin mattresses (standard coil, not foam) I ended up feeling like I couldn’t utilize the whole mattress – the support built into the sides was firm, 4″ or so wide, so my body stayed right in the center of the mattress.

So what do you think? Would the support on the sides of the Oceano twin mattress be so much more supportive than the center of the mattress that my weight couldn’t compress it? Sorry for lengthy question, kind of hard to explain!

    Reply
    • You shouldn’t have that issue particularly because of the euro top. The microcoils above the coil system are all the same firmness so you will have a consisten feel across. Also, given your weight, you are light enough where you aren’t going to be putting as much pressure on the base coil system.

You have been so helpful. Looking on ordering Oceano king size. Have a 6 year old plush S&F seems to have compressedat at end of its life. I have lower back pain and need pressure relief in shoulders, hips and back also sleep hot. I’m at 185 lbs and side sleeper I believe this would be a good choice. I have been heavily reviewing online. Recently made trek into mattress firm and tested out and liked Beauty Rest Legend model Winward. I’m hoping this is a good compromise or contender. Your thoughts?
Also when shipping King std shipping will they bring inside or just drops outside at door. If white glove will they take away old mattress?

        Reply
        • Yes, the Oceano will be great for pressure relief around hips and shoulders. If you opt for standard delivery they will leave it outside your door. With white glove for an extra fee, I believe they can haul away the old mattress.

Which would you recommend as a starting point for an in home trial? We are mostly side sleepers but I also sleep on my back and my wife on her stomach. Any other brand/model?

    • I haven’t tried the Stearns and Foster Reserve so can’t speak to the feel but you’re right that they seem to have similar construction. I would go with the Oceano as it is considerably less expensive and if you like it, you have saved a lot of money.

  23. Hey Ben,

We recently purchased the Oceano after trying it in your showroom and absolutely love it! So first off, I just wanted to say thank you since we never would have known about Brentwood Home had we not gone to your showroom.

The only issue we are having is that my fiance is having a hard time getting used to the tufts and how it affects the look of the sheets, since the sheets conform to the tufts.

She wants to purchase a flat mattress pad to put on the top of the mattress in order to get around this problem, but I’m worried this will ruin the feel of the mattress and almost be akin to downgrading it. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on this, or any ideas you have for how we might get around it?

    Thanks in advance!

    • A mattress pad will dampen the feel a bit. A mattress protector such as one from Malouf would help but not totally solve the issue. I think this is a tradeoff for having the tufting.

  25. Hi Ben – great reviews and information, thank you! My husband and I were at Mattress Firm yesterday and both liked the Beautyrest Black Hybrid Gladney Firm. It’s $3,700 (yikes). The more I look at the Oceano, the more it looks to be very similar to the Beautyrest Black. How do the two compare, would you recommend we go with the Oceano? Husband is a back sleeper and likes firm and I’m a side sleeper who likes a little softer, but both want something that gives the ‘hug’ of a high-end mattress. Thanks!

  26. Does the Oceano need a boxspring? I’ve got an old bed, not a platform bed.

I loved my natural latex mattress but now it’s giving out after 5 years. I bought it because dust mites don’t live in natural latex. Any data on dust mites and the Oceano?

    • If you get a good mattress protector you shouldn’t have to worry about dust mites. This mattress works on a platform bed or box spring. Just make sure the box spring is firm and no bend to it.

  27. I currently have the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme, a $1600 foam mattress. At first it was the greatest thing ever but now I can’t stand it. It sleeps so incredibly hot and I fall into a huge hole in the middle. I am currently trying to make a warranty claim because of how deep the indent is. I’m hoping you can tell me if the Oceano is what I want. I like a soft sink-in feeling when I’m laying on my side reading before going to bed (if I read too long, my current mattress hurts my hips and shoulder) but then I mostly sleep on my back throughout the night so in that position a harder feel is ok. The biggest most important factor is that I really REALLY don’t want to wake up with night sweats anymore. What do you think?

    • Yes, the Oceano is definitely the way to go here. The microcoil system near the top keeps you supported and also helps with breathability.

I’ve never been on a $10,000 bed, but it’s how I imagine a top of the line ultra-luxury bed would feel–yet Oceano is a fraction of the price. Our big Cal King showed up in a rather small box and popped out as this big bed of cushiony springy comfort. The whole experience is very special and unique.

    • Hi DHSurline,

sounds like you like the Oceano. Just curious if you could comment on how much you sink in to it. If you lay on your side does it let your shoulder sink in so there’s no pressure? We are looking for a good mattress that will do this but not be like you sink in and feel trapped if you get me 🙂

I like the feel of the Leesa but am rolling into my husband by morning due to him sinking in more than I. He would like a bit firmer feel in a mattress. I’m concerned about going firmer and my pressure point pain in hips and shoulders returning. I’m thinking our only option is to put more space between us and go with a king, though from a space standpoint, a queen fits in our bedroom much better. Wondering if the Oceano might stop the rolling into each other problem without having to go to a king and provide a firmer supportive feel for my husband but yet maintain my pain free sleeping? Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

    • Yes, the tufting and the microcoils on the Oceano keep the material in place and prevent the rolling together effect.

Also, we currently have an Kingdowne Ariana queen bed which seems a little more firm for my husband and I. We are both side sleepers and I feel pressure in my shoulders at night. Our current low profile box spring measures 5 inches and mattress is about 14 inches. Would a low profile 4 or 5 inch boxspring work for this mattress. I really don’t want any more height added to our sleigh bed.

    • Yes, just about all the sheets you find in stores and online will accomomdate this mattress. And a low profile box spring is definitely the way to go as it is a rather thick mattress.

Aside from price difference (which is about a +$1400 for Beautyrest) what is the main difference between the Oceano and Beautyrest mattress I’m considering. Thanks

    • One of the biggest differences is that the Oceano has microcoils and is hand tufted which gives it a more luxurious feel and will allow you to sink in more and recover faster than the Beautyrest Black. I think it is also a much better value and feel for the money.

Seems like all would be good options. Which do you recommend between those 3? (or is there another we should be considering). If I don’t get a good night sleep soon, I am going to lose my mind. Our current mattress is memory foam and has developed pockets/pods for us to sleep in. High in the middle (low where we sleep). We appreciate the site and any guidance you may be able to offer.

I need your recommendation if the Oceano or another mattress would be a good fit. I’m 5′ 5″ and 118 pounds and mainly a side sleeper – but sleep on my back at times. My QL is so tight when I wake up, I think our current mattress is too firm. I also toss and turn all night. I went to Mattress Firm and tried the BeautyRest Legend Plush bed and really liked it for the few minutes I laid on it. It’s $4100 though. What would be your recommendation? My husband is 155 pounds and side and back sleeper too. I would like a mattress with not as much off gassing. Thanks for your help!

  34. You’ve mentioned the winkbed in here a couple of times, but how do these two compare? They seem somewhat similar. My wife and I are looking for a cal king. We’re both side sleepers. She’s rather small, but prefers a firmer bed. I’m large 6’5 240lbs and like a plush/firm feel (and have some hip/back problems). Both seem like good options. Cost isn’t a factor, but comfort is. What are the key differences/benefits between the two? Thanks!

    Reply
    • The Winkbed will be considerably firmer than the Oceano. Even the soft version of the Winkbed will be firmer. Also the Oceano is hand tufted and incorporates wool on one of the top layers. Since you both have different firmness prefereces this wil be a tough decsion however I would try the Oceano first since despite it being plush it is still has great support.

      • I’m also considering the Winkbed Soft and the Oceano. Can anyone comment on how the top layers of these models holds up over time? Our last bed (Latex Nature’s Rest) had huge several inch valley’s appear only after a year or so. I’m not sure how long these models have been out or if they have been tested for durability. Thanks for the great site and information!

      • I strongly disagree with this statement. We just returned our Winkbed Luxury Firm after the 120 day trial. It was far too soft for me (6’2” 205lb) – even softer than when we bought it. Also, the foam must be right under the cover of the mattress, because it reflected every BTU of heat from my body right back at me. I was using only a thin blanket all winter – in Wisconsin! Also, it was soft enough that I couldn’t sleep on my back – my hips sank in too far and the lack of support caused back pain.

We replaced the Winkbed with an Oceano. There is much less of the “sinking in” feeling – you feel more like you are lying on top of it. The surface of the Oceano does not get nearly as hot – maybe the wool layer at work? There seems to be less motion transfer with the Oceano too, but the edge support is definitely lacking.

We tried both beds back to back in your Chicago store – even there, it was clear that the Oceano was firmer than Winkbed Luxury Firm. Many online comments say the Oceano is firmer than buyers expected. Not sure what the disconnect is here – I guess this just further supports how hard it is to select a mattress online.

  35. So I bought the Oceano and have been sleeping in it for a few weeks. Since day one I have slept like a baby throughout the night and wake up with no pain, but it’s confusing because as a side sleeper, when I’m laying in it with my bottom arm stretched out in front of me as I do, I do feel a good deal of pressure on my shoulder and arm. It’s uncomfortable, but yet I still manage to fall asleep fine and sleep throughout the night with no tossing and turning like I used to do. It’s weird! I want to keep it since I sleep so well in it, but the shoulder/arm pressure really bugs me.

      • Hi Jodi & David,
Have either of you found a good alternative to the Oceano? I’m a side-sleeper and finding the Oceano way too firm. It’s a beautifully made mattress, but it puts too much pressure on my shoulders, hips and knees. I feel like I’m going straight to the micro-coil level…Tossing and turning a lot and when I finally fall asleep, my arms (both top and bottom) fall asleep = pins & needles. I’m achy for a few hours after getting out of bed which is not at all normal for me. Thanks!

    • The Oceano may be a little too soft for some stomach sleepers. However if you are under 175 lbs. it should support you as a stomach sleeper. There’s very little off gassing with this mattress since it has a considerable amount of coils in lieu of foam.

  38. Ben,
Earlier this year my wife and I decided it was time to replace our worn out mattress. We went to a mattress store, and of course the mattress we both really liked was a BeautyRest priced at $4,600. I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that much money Mon a mattress.

I found your website doing internet searches while trying to find out more about the mattress we liked. I spent several days and many hours reading mattress reviews, and kept coming back to your Brentwood Oceano review. We figured what did we have to lose with their awesome 120 trial period, so we ordered a King Oceano.

I’m an airline pilot, and sleep on many different mattresses while at work. Some are really nice, and others that are just plain awful. I can say that since sleeping on the Oceano now for about 6 months it is by far the nicest and most comfortable mattress we’ve ever owned. Very few of the mattresses I sleep on in hotels (and we stay in some nice ones) can compare to it, and when they do I’ll lift up the sheets and see what kind of mattress it is, and then be shocked at how expensive it is to order.

My wife and I are both side sleepers and couldn’t be happier with our Oceano mattress. It did actually feel a bit firm for us the first few weeks we had it, but it was a feeling we both grew accustomed to, and we are both sleeping great on it now, and wake up feeling so much more better rested then we did with our old mattress.

The purpose of this message is just to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to you Ben for swaying us to the Oceano with your review, and for anyone who’s trying to decide on a mattress – if you’re a side sleeper, and want a great feeling mattress that is the equivalent of a $4,600+ BeatyRest for a third of the cost then you won’t regret getting the Oceano. If by some chance you don’t like it and do regret purchasing it you can’t really lose with their generous trial period!

    Thanks again Ben!

  42. Good morning Ben.

Thank you for your reviews. I have a memory foam mattress that allegedly was “the best” 6 or 7 years ago that never felt that great. Traveling the past few years, I have found that most of the hotels where I sleep better than at home and wake up pain free are pillowtops. Although I am working to become a back sleeper, because of pain from bilateral knee replacements, I often end up on my side, sprawled. My hips and right pelvis and sometimes shoulder ache when I get up, but not in hotels.
My physical therapist thinks a pillowtop (or Eurotop – I understand them to basically be the same as far as support and comfort)will be a good choice and recommended that I get one with about 3″ of pillowtop. My joints like my elbows also do not like it too firm, but I think my current memory foam is too soft. Sheesh, I sound like Goldilocks. Anyway, my guess is that the Avocado and the Wink might be too firm. Do you think that the Oceano would be a good fit, even though it is only 2″ of pillowtop instead of 3″? Or is there another brand that you would recommend? I do not want glue between layers, and while I would prefer to be eco-friendly, to be honest, with the pain my body is getting, I am most concerned about getting as pain-free of a night’s sleep as my body can.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  49. HI Ben! Thank you for all this wonderful advice.

I bought a Charles P. Rogers Nano bed here in NY and while it being quality, it doesn’t ease the pressure points of a side sleeper. I had a Posture-temp for 10 years and tend to be on the firmer side when it comes to memory foam/body contour, but seemingly now anything else as substitute is feeling way too firm. (5’5, 130 lbs).
Do you feel the Brentwood OC or the Cedar is better for side sleepers?
What is the extent of the off gassing that occurs from the OC?
Is it bc the OC has a gel layer that is the “lease natural” inside the bed compared to the Cedar?

Any advice is welcome! Along with any other beds you think would be great!

Even though it’s the soft version it should still give you enough lower back support and address your shoulders adequately. I would stay away from coils as I think this is what is contributing to the shoulder problems.

  53. Hello, I am 5’11” and 200#. My wife is 5’6″ and 135#. I am a back sleeper and she is a side sleeper. I prefer more support than she does. Looking at the Oceano, but wondering whether that will work for a back sleeper like me. Or are we better off with the Ojai or Cedar? Or are we better off going with something like Helix. Thanks!

    • Yes, the Oceano would be ideal. I think the Cedar and Ojai would be too firm for her as a side sleeper.

We already tried Purple and it was super hard to me. I really need help on which one to get this time. I’m tired of looking and don’t want to keep sending them back. I’ve done tons of research so knownthey all 3 have great materials and warranties. I just don’t know which would be best for such different types of sleepers. Please help!

    • In terms of firmness the Oceano would be the firmest of the 3 you mention above followed by the Alexander Hybrid (soft) and Brooklyn Aurora (medium)

  56. My husband and I are on the hunt for a new mattress (king) and I think we’ve narrowed it down to four:
    1. the Winkbed
    2. Brooklyn Bedding Aurora
    3. the Alexander Signature Hybrid
    4. the Oceano
…and now I’m wondering if you can offer any insight into which might be the best choice for us.

We’re both in our early 30’s; I’m a side sleeper and sleep hot, hubby is a side and back sleeper. My ultimate getting-into-bed feeling would be a combo of floating on a cloud yet feeling swaddled, yet still having support. Lol, as long as my husband gets a good night sleep, he doesn’t care what it feels like. (He does have back pain that flairs up sporadically.)

We currently have a Simmons Comforpedic that’s about 7-8 years old. It was ok in the beginning but it’s far from my dream bed. It’s SOOO hot (in my opinion) and we now both have dips in our respective sides that makes it feel like we have to climb out of bed in the morning.

Would you recommend one of the four listed above? Or can you give us any info as to why we might want (or NOT want) to go with any of them?

    Thanks so much!

  58. Just wondering, if we purchase the Oceano split king (two XL twin mattresses) will we feel the “split” if we end up in the middle of the bed? Ideally, we would like to have an adjustable split king base with this mattress. My husband and I are both side sleepers (sometimes back) and I am sensitive to pressure points eg. shoulders and hips. In all our research and according to your review, this mattress seems ideal for us.

    • Yes, you will feel it a bit. This mattress has more of a pillow top feel and if you sleep right in the middle you will feel it.

  59. Hello,

Will try not to give my life story, but in January 2016 I purchased a Saatva Queen Size 11.5” Luxury Firm Mattress. It is supported by Wildon Home ® 2″ Mattress Foundation (basically a “bunkie board”) in a Macy’s Yardley bedframe (can see picture here: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/closeout-yardley-nightstand?ID=650931). I did a lot of research before purchasing.

I ultimately went with Saatva due to good reviews and the fact that they offered an 11.5″ height. I need low height because I have a very small, 15-year old dog that is allowed on the bed (shame on me). I also wanted decent edge support, and as a side and stomach sleeper thought firmer would be better. However I have never liked this bed and probably should have returned it. Too much hassle, though. I had to coordinate order and delivery of all three pieces which were sourced from three different companies to get the bed as low as possible.

Now, almost two years later, I am having serious hip pain on the side I usually sleep, and lower back pain. I just have a feeling it’s the bed, which was never comfortable to me and always felt “hard.” I tried a topper which met with the dog’s approval but didn’t seem to make any discernible difference to my back pain. I don’t WANT to spend money on another mattress, but am starting to research again due to the pain. I am curious how something like the Saatva I own compares to this Oceano mattress, which sounds wonderful. I also am wondering how to make sure the mattress is properly supported with bed frame and box spring without this or any mattress being so tall that my dog breaks her legs jumping off.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Ty,
    Jill

    • Yes, it can be used on slats. Sheets shouldn’t be a problem. Even sheets you find at Target and Walmart will accomodate this mattress.

  63. We are seriously considering a Brentwood Oceano or Crystal Cove Mattress but then I just stumbled upon your new review for the Parachute Home mattress. I am a huge Parachute bedding fan and assume the mattress is equally as lovely. Not being able to test out any of these, I wanted some input on what of the 3 would be best for 2 back and stomach sleepers who move around a lot – 120 lbs and 225 lbs respectively. We are currently sleeping on a W Hotel mattress with a memory foam topper because the mattress completely broke down after only 5 years of owning it and the back and neck pain is unbearable.

  64. Brentwood is the best. The mattress is very comfortable, but the customer service takes the take.
I’ve had my mattress for nearly 2 months now. It was very good right out of the box for back sleeping but still felt a bit too hard for side sleeping. Customer service was incredible. They sent me the Oceano Topper and now it is perfect.
There was more a few more days off gassing than I expected but overall it couldnt have been a better experience.
Thanks Yawnder for all the great info on the Oceano. Your review and comments gave me the confidence to take the plunge.

  65. Ben – you mention this would be fine on top of a “newer” box spring.

  66. Hi Ben –
Torn between the Winkbed Hybrid Luxury Firm and the Brentwood Oceano. Seem like extremely similar construction, great warranties, sleep trial periods, and excellent reviews on both. 185lbs, side/stomach sleeper, lower back pain; wife 125 lbs, side sleeper.
Currently have a Dreamcloud, but both of us find pressure points on our shoulders, and not happy with overall comfort (some of it may have to do with our foundation??). Still have back pain. Had a Gold Bond Latex mattress before, which was OK, but still caused pain, and a Tempurpedic before that, which was great for 5 years, then caused major back pain in following years.
Think we want to stick with coil springs, so hybrid “maybe” is best solution? I know you really like the Oceano. What are the downsides of the Winkbed? Seems like there are more “construction features” that make the Winkbed better engineered???? Let me know your thoughts and what bed you might recommend.

    2) What is the best non-sagging platform out there that could be used in the middle of a conventional bed frame. I like the Winkbed platform, since it comes with legs, so it’s not resting on a frame just on the outer edges. It is supported by the feet, and even has a center spine, and legs to support the center as well.
    https://www.winkbeds.com/pages/platform-foundation
I think our current foundation might be sagging in the middle, and want to fix the issue before getting a new mattress. Platform foundation recommendation?

    3) I love the “bounce-back” of latex foam pillows. What is your favorite/recommended pillows for side/stomach sleepers for neck confort and perhaps to help with snoring??? Thank you for all the research you do!

  71. Ben,

We are looking for a hybrid bed. We are both back and side sleepers. My husband is 220 and I am 120. With the large difference in weight, I’m finding hard to find a bed to fit both of us. Will the Oceano do a good enough job for my pressure points when I sleep on my side? I’m worried that 2 inches of foam won’t be enough. Don’t most beds have more foam than that? Any other bed suggestions that may work for both of us. Thank you.

  72. Hi Ben, we recently pulled the trigger on a Brentwood Home Cedar Luxe + the topper. We are finding that it is much too firm for us and are having a decent amount of neck and shoulder pain. (We’ve had it for about two months). We are both predominately side sleepers (145lbs and 200lbs). I was attracted to the Cedar b/c of the eco friendly certifications. I know the Oceano does not have all of those but I am thinking that there is not a natural mattress out there that will be plush enough for us. Once I return my Cedar, if I purchase from Brentwood again, I will not be able to return a second mattress. I am really attracted to the Oceano though b/c we do like the feel of a traditional innerspring mattress and this seems to have that feel. Do you think the Oceano is the best fit for us? Do you have any other recommendations for a luxury plush natural mattress that would work well for side sleepers? Thanks so much!!

Do you think the Oceano is comparable and how long before indentations in the mattress? Is there another mattress you’d recommend?

Thanks

I’ve never been on a $10,000 bed, but it’s how I imagine a top of the line ultra-luxury bed would feel–yet Oceano is a fraction of the price. Our big Cal King showed up in a rather small box and popped out as this big bed of cushiony springy comfort. The whole experience is very special and unique.

    • One of the biggest differences is that the Oceano has microcoils and is hand tufted which gives it a more luxurious feel and will allow you to sink in more and recover faster than the Beautyrest Black. I think it is also a much better value and feel for the money.

Thanks!

  38. Ben,
Earlier this year my wife and I decided it was time to replace our worn out mattress.

Took topper off and suffered with just shoulder pain, but after these few months, now have back and shoulder pain with side sleeping. Have tried all the nest alexander beds, and no luck. Where should I go from here? I’m not sure what to try next, since I thought the oceano was the answer!

    • This is a tough one. I would take a look at the soft version of the cocoon mattress. Even though it’s the soft version it should still give you enough lower back support and address your shoulders adequately. I would stay away from coils as I think this is what is contributing to the shoulder problems.

  51. Hi,
I am 5’2″, 120 lbs and a side/back sleeper, that wakes up with back and hip aches rearly every night on my 10 year old Beautyrest Black mattress. I think it was always too firm, but for the price, I’ve just lived with it all these years. Once a foam topper helped, but I couldn’t get used to the chemical smell.
I’m currently comparing the Avocado mattress and the Oceano (and perhaps the Crystal Cover). I definitely like a plush feel, but I don’t want to sink into memory foam. I’ve always liked the feel of the Westin Heavenly Bed as well. Recommendations?

    • I would go with the Oceano. It doesn’t feel like a memory foam bed, more like a traditional mattress.

  52. We have tried the Beauty Rest Gladney – horrible and so hard! We then exchanged for Mattress firm dream lux 710 – still too hard – We wake up in the middle of the night with shoulder pain and arm asleep! We are both side sleepers and get hot!.. I like the feeling of soft and gushy.. We previously owned old version of sleep number which I loved but husband didn’t. We are both side sleepers. What would you recommend – looking at Oceano, Tomorrow sleep hybrid – medium soft, new sleep number i8.

  54. If we purchase a mattress online thru the sleep sherpa site, if we have any problems do we deal with sleep sherpa or the mattress dealer? Is there any way of finding out about a mattress has performed after being used for a while?

  55. I am looking at the Oceana vs Nest Signature Hybrid vs Brooklyn Aurora. I am 135 and a side sleeper, but my husband is 245 and a back/side sleeper.

  57. Hi,

I am about 190 lbs male stomach and side sleeper. Would you recommend the Oceana or the Alexander Hybrid?

    • The Oceano would be a good fit otherwise the Medium firm version of the Alexander Hybrid would work too.

    Ty,
    Jill

  61. Can this matress be used on bed slats atop a sturdy wooden frame to eliminate the extra height of a box spring? Also, how hard is it to find sheets to fit a matress this thick? It sounds like just the matress I’ve been dreaming of, but the thickness is making me nervous.

  67. Thanks for all your great reviews!
Hubby and I both have consistent shoulder issues and intermittent back issues.
I sleep hot, and he sleeps neutral, no matter what.
What would you recommend between the Luxe adjustable bed and the Oceana?
Or do you recommend a different mattress altogether?

  68. I am strongly considering the Oceano but also looking at the Lyton. I am looking for a non toxic, no off gassing mattress that’s good fora 120 lb side /back sleeper with shoulder/neck issues. I had the Avacado with topper and loved it but turns out that I have a latex allergy.

  69. what is extremely frustrating is the fact that you have no information about adjustable frames, much less their cost to go along with the mattress. If one can’t find pricing, how is one to judge the value offer?

  73. My wife and I are both medium-sized side sleepers. We tried the soft Winkbed, and it’s too firm. Our shoulders and hips just don’t sink in enough. We’re now looking at the Brentwood Oceano and the plush soft Saatva, but it’s very hard to find comparisons that involve the soft version of the Saatva. How does its firmness compare to the Oceano?

  74. yes looking for comparison of the oceano and the Saatva. I own the oceano but it is too soft. getting hot spots on shoulder and hips… but does the saatava last more than a year without sagging? reviews are iffy…

  76. Hi Ben. I purchased a SAATVA 14.5″ Luxury Firm Mattress 6 years ago. Through the years, indentations have occurred. We rotate the mattress every few months, but that hasn’t stopped the permanent indentations. It was great until a couple months ago to sleep, but it is really bothering my lower back now.
Do you think the Oceano is comparable and how long before indentations in the mattress? Is there another mattress you’d recommend?

    • The Oceano is fantastic although it will feel a little softer than the Saatva Luxury Firm. Most mattresses these days have a lifespan of about 7 years.
