If you’re looking for the best down pillow, check out the Cassiopeia pillow from Slumbr.com. This is a goose down pillow which is superior to duck down. Goose down generally produces larger clusters of down as compared to duck down which makes for a higher fill power. That means you get lots of loft and support without all the weight. For instance, Brooklinen down pillows are duck down, they don’t list the fill power on their website. The Slumbr down pillow has a fill power of 700.

When you take it out of the box the pillow is housed in a nice cloth sack.
To protect your pillow, it is also wrapped in plastic.

My Cassiopeia Pillow Findings
All down from Slumbr is bluesign® approved. The bluesign system ensures that textiles are sourced and produced in a sustainable manner.
What I really appreciate about this pillow is that there is no odor with it. Cheap down pillows have lots of feathers and can have a smell to them. Memory foam pillows will have an off gassing period where you will need to air them out for a while before sleeping on them.
Another reason why the Cassiopeia is fresh right out of the bag is that these pillows are actually rated to be hypoallergenic. In a turbidity test, which as I understand it is measures the cloudiness of the water a material is soaked in, this pillow measured 1,000 mm+ while the threshold to be considered hypoallergenic is only 400 mm+.
Aside from the the construction and quality, the pillow just feels great. Although I am a stomach sleeper, the pillow will conform enough for most sleep types. This down pillow is superior to just about every luxury hotel pillow out there. It’s lighter, cradles better and cleaner!
Considering the material in this pillow, it is a good deal. A 650 fill power goose down from Scandia Home retails for $265 for a standard size:
My Cassiopeia Recommendation
If you want to give your bedroom the luxury treatment, this is the pillow to get. You can really wow your guests by giving them these pillows to sleep on. It pairs perfectly with my top rated mattress, the Brentwood Home Oceano which also has a classic luxurious feel and quality construction.
